Default Linux for Customization/Remastering

I have been an on-off Linux user for a while. I've run Ubuntu, Debian, Kanotix and DSL, and I've had to jump around due to compatibility issues with my family network and the need for windows programs like Outlook, Office 2007, and "specialist" software for school assignments. But now these issues are less significant and only one remains:

If I were to stick with linux, I would have to find a distro with extreme customizability. One of reasons I want this is to get my friends to start using Linux as well. If I could remaster the distribution after I make my changes and give it to my friends, they may be more receptive to this upgrade.

What would you guys say the most modular, customizable, easy to use linux distribution? I like debian based apps, especially due to the apt-get "service" and .deb packages that pretty much automatically take care of dependencies.

Thoughts?

You want Gentoo.

Gentoo is more of a meta-distribution, or at least that's what its maintainers call it, because you can really use it for anything and set it up to be anything. From the same Gentoo disc, you can make a gaming rig, a high-end server, or a word-processing box. Its fully customizable, and you'll be able to select everything down to what features you want in each application.

rabbitweed: Hahahahaahah, you win...

Does gentoo offer any sort of apt-get thing, or will I have to compile my own stuff?

EDIT: Nevermind, just read about the emerge command! Gentoo looks good...

Any more suggestions?

The classic is Quake. I'm pretty sure that's what GNU/Linux gamers obsess over.
