so i just switched from fluoxetine to bupropion and all the sudden im getting really bad anxiety. i have a test on friday that im really nervous for, and i usually never get nervous for stuff like that.

also sometimes ill just be sitting down doing nothing and my heart will start beating fast and i get butterflys in my stomach. im nervous about tomorrow for no reason.

i was looking on wikipedia and it only said stuff about getting paranid as a side effect. nothing about general anxiety

is it just the bupropion? i never had anxiety issues on the prozac. sorry if it sounds like im just bitching

I've read that bupropion(wellbutrin) causes anxiety. I can attest to that I do have a higher degree of anxiety and also kind of jittery when I take it. But I do feel pretty good on wellbutrin. HOpe it lasts.

- you're withdrawing from a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which reduces receptor agonism, which reduces serotonin-mediated oxytocin release, which reduces oxytocin's pacifying effect on the amygdala.

...and...

- you're on a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, which increases noradrenal neurotransmission at the amygdala.

Incidentally, this still wouldn't be happening if you weren't fucked in the head to begin with. You're, umm... predisposed to anxiety. 'n in case you want TMI, the molecular-biological subfield of the developmental subset of social psychology tells us that this is because your mommy didn't love you enough in the first two years of your life. Just in case you'd like to know.

As to what you can do about it, in no particular order...

- up your tryptophan.

- cut off your noradrenaline biosynthesis.

- quit the pills and see what your baseline is.

Or... you can just deal with it. Whatever works for you. &totse is not approved by any regulatory body to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure anything.
