Default What should someone know before trying shrooms.

Well what are the risks, how much does some eat? What can go wrong? Is it safe to do it alone? Are there any permanet affects?

Thanks for the help.

Make sure they aren't poisonous. Identify them before you eat them. 2-3g of dried mushrooms would be a great first trip dose.

just try and remember that it IS a drug and will wear off, if a bad trip happens, think good thoughts and just think about all the shit you are
"seeing" and feeling is an effect of a drug. i only have done shrooms twice, but both have been GREAT trips

You should probably do them with somebody else your first time--preferably outside.

Make sure you know what you're getting into. You need to be prepared to look at your hand and see it change before your very eyes.

Also, be sure that you're doing them for the right reasons. Don't eat shrooms just to see things and get messed up. They're for a different purpose than that.

Most of all, be careful. It's a mind altering drug that can make you do wild shit if you don't take caution. Happy tripping.

Well what are the risks
if they are poisonous, you could die... try to get them from someone reputable, preferably having people you know take them before you to tell you the strength, and if they are viable..

how much does some eat?
half of an eighth for a lighter trip, a full eighth for a more mind blowing experience.

What can go wrong? Is it safe to do it alone? Are there any permanet affects?
Some people get nausea, try to not puke for as long as you can if this happens, but after an hour or so about all of the chemicals that are going to be absorbed should have been absorbed, puke and you will feel better. an empty stomach helps.

If you have never done any psychedelics before i wouldn't go at it alone, have someone to trip with... its nice to be able to talk to someone who is experiencing the same thing... by yourself you are going to think more than your probably going to be comfortable with. There is always the possibility of a difficult experience or bad trip. before you take them right on a sheet of paper that you are on mushrooms and it will be over in a few hours. seeing that in your own handwriting can be comforting if you are feeling insane for no apparent reason. if your thoughts start going around things in your life that you would rather not think about its good to use this time to deal with them, you will walk out of it feeling better about whatever it is. Try to think of happy things and listen to some nice music, pink floyd kicks the mindfuck up for me... if it gets too bad for you to handle, drink some alcohol or take some benzos to calm you down or help you get some sleep...

as for permanent effects, your looking at mental things... ive always walked out of those really powerful experiences feeling stronger and happier, just happy to be alive... acid got rid of my depression once it helped me realize that life is better than ive been seeing it, happiness is always there you just have to have the right kind of eyes to see it... flashbacks are not a myth, but they are not as bad as antidrug makes them out to be, at least for me... i get random visuals when my mind starts to wander off sometimes, like the walls will breath and a person shirt will move for no real reason downward and upward.... and then i snap out of it and its over.. they may or may not happen, it sort of comes with the territory of getting into psychs...

shrooms are a great drug for the spring time, do them on a nice sunny day and go outside... even a back porch is fine... nature is simply beautiful, everything about it... have some cigarettes if you enjoy smoking at all because they are so much better while tripping... weed will intensify the effects...

keep an open mind going into it, dont expect anything because whatever you can come up with is going to be very wrong. even if you feel insane just keep in mind that you are on a drug, its sort of a leave your sanity at the door sort of thing if you take enough to trip hard. Just take them however you want, and let the lovin take hold.

Thanks for the replies, but I will have 2 major problems,

A. no one to trip with opr be around whilst tripping

B. I might be doing them for th wrong reason. I want to try them so I can see things and try to incorporate them within some art I am working on. More or less, I wnt to use them as an influence for srtistic purposes, but at this point I think It might not be a good idea after reading all of these things.

if you are a strong willed person, you can do them by yourself try a 2-2.5 gram dose. working on art might be a decent enough outlet for what your feeling.... really your not doing them for what most consider the "wrong reason" which to most is taking them just to get fucked up. but if you trip hard your going to be incorporating the experience into more than your art... its not really what you see that makes psychedelics extraordinary, its what you feel...

my only real experience with mushrooms was a light 2 grams or so, maybe a bit more... weired trains of thoughts will go through your head, music will sound better, colors will seem more rich and vibrant. happiness and giggling are almost a given...

i have much more experience with LSD due to availability in the area compared to shrooms... i didn't trip nearly as hard as i would have liked, but it was a nice easygoing trip that i could have handled alone. i found shrooms to be alot more of a smooth trip than acid is, easier on the mind at the very least but considerably more visual.

the only real problems happen when people take more than they are prepared for and things get crazy at the peak, they feel insane and like they will never come down... Write on a sheet of paper that you are on a drug that you took, and that it will all be over in a few hours... seeing that in your own handwriting helps alot of people get through those difficult parts.. thank meta for that tip...

There are no "right or wrong" reasons to do shrooms.

Just do them. Expect nothing. Let the shrooms do the rest.

Good luck.

I agree with the suggestion 2-3 grams dry as a starting dose. Try and get an idea of how good they are though, because if they're really potent you may only need one gram.

And of course, don't forget set and setting. They're really basic but really essential aspects. It means that the people you're with should be your friends and the places you are should be comfortable.

risks - you can trip that you are a glass of orange juice and if someone drinks you or tips you over you die

dosage- my first time i did 1.7, now i do anywhere from 2.0-2.5 gs. start off slow bud.

what can go wrong - my friend ate 7 gs of gooms and ended up getting his stomach pumped. it is a poison you know

doing it alone- at least do it with one different person. happiness is best shared.

permanent affects- brain damage, stomach damage. its a poison man its bound to do some bad shit.

i highly recommend it :)

eh, What do you feel? Or can it not be described?

One time, the thick, heavy glass screen that was my eyes which were watching the cartoon-world around me started pressing on my head and I got squished flat and died.

Another time, my bed shot up most of the way to the ceiling, leaving me in a tiny little cubbyhole while the rest of the architecture developed additional intricacies in the space below me.

Another time, I was flat-out raped. By people who didn't even fucking exist. Didn't keep me from going through it, buddy. That was the time when I attained enlightenment, that since we cannot prove that reality even fucking exists, that the fact that it doesn't even matter sets us free to be happy.

It is, however, wierd to take a shit on the toilet while being raped by invisible people until this revelation strikes you, however.

Another time, my throat was slit. I could feel the pain, the wierd loose gaping sensation where the flesh didn't match up, and everything... and I died. Coping with the concept of my being dead was a growth experience for me.

These are some of the more normative, english-language-expressible things that have happened. More minor, neutral things that have happened involve having my entire body dissolve into liquid and float on waves of music. That was pretty cool. 'n then there's a whole lot of stuff which really just can't be described.

The one, uniting rule is that everything, will happen - whether it actually can happen or not. Do not expect your imagination to limit itself to what you can even concieve when selecting the point of view you will now occupy. ;)

Take an eighth, go outside, and let your mind open. Don't try to control it, just let your mind wander. I believe that a nature setting is a must. Have a cell phone on you and a friend you can call if stuff starts to get a little to scary.

Be ready for some heavy time distortion. I thought I was living entire lifetimes, hell living entire lifetimes, in only a couple minutes. If you do start a bad trip, take a bath. It's relaxing, will calm you down, and it's pretty fun (breathe in and out to grow and shrink to the whole room to the size of an ant, look in the mirror, etc.).

jesus man, how much do you take?

Usually, enough that this doesn't happen, 'cause actual hallucinations and/or delusions are far more coherent than anything I'd be experiencing. ;)

The first was the comeup on a strong-ass 1/8th of shrooms, right before the world went black/multicolored and went away. The second was the tail end of a medium-weak 1/8th of shrooms. The third was 2-3 hits of medium-strong acid... what you young bucks call "mindblowingly strong acid" these days, and was one of my lightest trips ever. The fourth was two of the strongest-ever and second-cleanest-ever tabs of LSD I've ever had; to give you a hint, my "death" occurred 5-7 hours after the peak. Wow.

'n the liquid-body-wave-dissolution? That was on the low end of my normal tripping doses, 5-8 tabs of good strong LSD.

Generally, when I dose, I don't move, and I don't see, hear, feel, touch, taste, or smell. Those were descriptions of some of my lighter trips. I just don't do "party doses." ;) In fact, it was years before I accidentally took a dose that a person could interact with the world on, and it was at the high end of that.

LSD is measured in milligrams. Beginners aside, anything from 0.5-2.5mg is good depending on where you want to be.

...but, yeah.... all of those were either before or after the peak. ;)

Now I really want some shrooms again! :P

:) I may not be your legal or medical advisor, but... I say... go for it! :D It does a soul good!

Haha, god damn this thread makes me wanna do shrooms again.

Whenever I do shrooms I just kinda forget about my whole life, and panic that I'm never going to be real and I'm just going to exist as this forgotten self forever, and I'll never be able to interact with people again, I look back, and the shit I've done isn't me. It's an odd, scary feeling. But I think next time I'm going to eat about 7g and see what happens.

Coup, if you're not a hard head you should probably start with a half eighth, a full one may be too much for someone without much drug experience all by themselves. These guys are all fucking hard heads and love telling people to take the same doses that they do. I'd rather have you be disappointed than get raped, because you can always eat more next weekend. But if money is tight, then fuck it, do the eighth, just make sure your parents or anyone important won't be seeing you for a good 8 hours, and don't be prepared to do much past put your favorite albums on, mess around a little bit with your art medium of choice and spend a good half hour doing what would normally take you a second, ie find some socks...

Also, don't expect for your art to be killer while you're on the shrooms. It usually takes me a few weeks to a month to incorporate my trips into my art work...
