Default Mushroom cultivation

Evening BLTC,

I'm considering picking up these two items -

Spores (http://www.everyonedoesit.com/online_headshop/Microscopy_Mushroom_Spores__PC_Amazon.cfm?iProduct ID=4470)

box (http://www.everyonedoesit.com/online_headshop/MushBox__Edible_Mushroom_Cultivation_Kit.cfm?iProd uctID=4469)

Quick question - is it worth getting the box? is it easy to DIY it? im aware of the sterilization issue. I would be growing my golden oysters (ahem) clandestinely, so how much of an issue is this?

Also, how easy to use are the grow kits?

And got any sites with better prices that are reliable in the UK?

I've heard the box isn't really worth it and you get small yields, so it's better to make your own, but I guess it would be all right to get a feel for it first time growing.

I plan to get that combo when I move out as a first time try.

Actually you got an email?

I can email you a site with better growkits, but can't link it here due to other products it sells and I'll get banned.

Google for the PF Tek, it's a pretty easy way to cultivate them without having to buy kits.

Yeah dude, go with DIY PF-tek. It is only like $40 including spores to make your own jars. Then, when you get good, you can turn $2.00 into a trash bag full of shrooms(and that's just the cost of the trash bag and some gas to get said bag :)).

Feel free to hit me up on shroomery(same username) if you have questions.

I lookeda t the PF-Tek method - Problem is i dont have access to a pressure cooker. or a syringe. Im assuming you dont need these in the growkits? Do they come pre-sterilized?

You're going to need a PC to sterilize your jars, substrate, casings, etc. Depending on how you go about doing it.

Don't buy from that site, don't buy any "grow kits." You can make your own.

If you want to get some high yields, make yourself a Martha Closet terrarium. Put some plastic shelves in it (on shroomery they use metal shelves with chains holding them, don't do that, unless you want to drop a shelf).

For an incubator, either make the double plastic tub, with water and aquarium heater, or find a heating blanket and put it over a plastic tub.

That's basically all you need. With 300-400 dollars you can set up a REALLY nice growing operation.

EDIT: Email Optionryder420@gmail.com

Are you in the US? I may or may not have some spore prints I could get rid of...

unfortuneately not, im uk. As i said before i do not have access to a pressure cooker either way, though i could use the steaming method instead. The growkits seem to come pre-sterilized, and i am not planning anything largescale (yet).

If you were to hypothetically aquire wet mushrooms, in a style similar to the way they used to be retailed back in the days of legality, would you be able ot make a spore print from their caps? or would they already have had their psores shaken off/died?

1. ebay.co.uk
2. search "pressure cooker"
3. bottom of the first page has 5L PC for £25 shipped from a reputable seller.

everything i needed was obtained from ebay, temp/RH probes, ultrasonic fogger, fishtank heater, air pump, hepa filter (mask), syringes, etc besides the tubs, which i got a wallymart. As for vermiculite, brf, or whatever substrate ingredients you might need either ebay it or hit up brew n grow or hydro store or dominics or gardening store, home depo etc.

Dont get the growkit, its not money effective, even for small scale cycles. Get all the pieces yourself, and read all you can from shroomery files, then hit up the forums for terms you dont understand, and do it without a kit, might be harder but youll learn more that way.

Definitely don't buy a grow kit, they all look like garbage.

You can get spores online, just do that.

Buy the spore syringe separately and use boil sterilization instead. You only need to PC whole grains; with BRF, you can just boil the jars in pot on an oven. .
