Default Best Distro for Fileserver for Windows Network with LDAP Integration.

Hi All

What suggestions would you have for a nix-based file server for a Windows Network. I need to get this thing set up with LDAP integration with the current system so users can be authenticated.

Thanks for any help/suggestions/pointers.

For the LDAP you'll probably be using Samba, which will run on just about anything. I'd recommend Gentoo GNU/Linux, Debian, or if you're willing to put in the effort, FreeBSD or OpenBSD.

Remember to use a faster filesystem than EXT3 for the drives that have files that will be accessed on them; I'd recommend XFS or ReiserFS. (that advice pertains to Linux only, BSD won't have problems with their default filesystem.)

Doesn't matter unless you plan to implement advanced quota or reporting systems, and in that case FSRM in Server 2003 R2 might make your life easier. If it's just a file server, use whatever you're comfortable with and concern yourself more with particular implementation details. Like the guy above said, Samba will be what you use.
