Alcoholic or "College Student"
Many people at universities drink. In fact, 90% of university students drink an average of 10 drinks per week. I and most are probably far above the average number of drinks per week. Lets just say that me and many others average around 50 drinks per week. Whether it be 10 beers thursday, 20 friday, and 20 saturday... Or split up amongst every day of the week.
Most students when you ask them, "are you an alcoholic?", they say "No! I'm a college student. This what we do". I find it dificult to label my self as an exception to what appears to be obvious.
My question to you totseans is:
Are we all alcoholics or college students... Or maybe even both...?

Well i think if it interferes with your school work and your drinking alone are two signs that you could be developing alcoholism. Can you stop drinking if you wanted? Do you black out when you drink?

i know a lot of people who do that or way way more. Cirrhosis is going to be such a bad problem for people our age.
But yeah if you're getting completely trashed every weekend then you are an alcoholic. even if you are in college.

Also our generation drinks alot of sugary juices and soft drinks which can also cause cirrhosis.

People consumed alcohol everyday in the past because it was used to sanitize the water. Beer was better than water at those times.

Re: Alcoholic or "College Student"
It pisses me off that most of my friends or people Iv met who are at university look down their nose at me for the drugs I do... Yet they are out drinking every night, not just drinking but getting drunk. Uni students are the biggest bunch of lazy pisshead cunts... They think they got it hard getting pissed every night, getting up at 12 every day if they can even be bothered to go to lectures and leaving work till the last moment. I might just be generalising here but this is all I see from the many people I know that go to university. The worst thing is they get leant money and given fucking grants so they can bum around away from home getting fucked up every night and lazing around. Id like to see half those fuckers go to my college, they wouldn't survive a week out in the middle of nowhere actually having to go to lectures and surrounded by aggressive chavs, denyed their precious loans, grants, alcohol and parties.
(College and uni are different in the Uk)
As you can tell I have an intense dislike for uni students, their mentality and approach to life and work... That or maybe im just jealous of their social life and freedom :(
Either way I do NOT like people looking down their nose at me because I like to indulge in other substances, especially when they are downing their 10th pint of their monday/tuesday/wednesday/thursday night, trying to decide whether they can be bothered to turn up to lectures tomorrow or to stay in bed with another hangover
Yes all college (uni) students are alcoholics and they put their alcoholism on a fucking pedestal too

Re: Alcoholic or "College Student"
Ah, I'm not the only one then. Yeah, I've got a taste for beer and I casually drink it most days out of the week. I don't consider myself an alcoholic, though.
Sure, I'll get a craving for a beer right about 6pm, but then that's just because I'm breaking the cycle; to use an analogy: it's like brushing your teeth in that you do it twice a day and, if you were to not do it for a whole day, you'd feel like there's something wrong. Considering this, I'm sitting here right now - it's about 7:10pm - and I'm not drinking tonight. A drink would be nice, but I don't need one.
Smoking weed on the other hand (I don't smoke cigarettes) - I'll find it very difficult to sleep tonight if I don't have a cheeky toke at some point. I'm addicted to nicotine, but also to the feeling of being high. If I don't get that I'll be grouchy! I don't smoke during the day, though, so I guess my addiction is nocturnal...

I thought I was a badass drinker when I got out of high school.
Then I went to work in construction, framing with a crew full of Russians and Rednicks from the sticks out here.
Then I learned that I knew nothing about what an alcoholic is, and that there is always someone worse out there when it comes to drinking.

Well, I was going to say that if you have trouble sleeping without weed, it more then likely has something to do with your melatonin production. Taking some melatonin supplements might help you in times of no weed.
But then you said you're addicted to nicotine, yet you only smoke weed. Given that, with the rest of your post, I would have to conclude you're an idiot.

No. I smoke spilffs - spliffs have tobacco in them. I've been smoking daily for years, therefore, I crave tobacco.
If I were to stop smoking for a few days I would definitely have trouble sleeping, mainly due to withdrawal symptoms. I don't smoke weed to specifically aid sleep, but I know my body and if I were to go cold turkey, I'd have trouble sleeping for a few weeks. Understand?

An alcoholic or any addict for that matter is someone who cannot cope in certain situations without consuming a particular substance. This may be at certain types of social situations, when the sleep or just generally daily.
Now all the uni students I know seem to require alcohol and the effects of alcohol to get through almost all social situation (which they have a lot of)... In my eyes that makes them alcoholics.

I'd define an alcoholic as someone who's developed a tolerance significant enough to produce withdrawal symptoms during the non-drinking hours, and/or someone who uses it regularly outside of social-drinking to handle certain common situations.
If you can heavily drink daily and feel fine after stopping abruptly, without any urge to drink, you probably have some nasty liver cirrhosis but not physical or mental alcoholism.

That is true although I personally think that psychological and physical addiction are completely different. With physical being what you have just described and as such the more harmful form of addiction. On the other hand I would still consider people who require alcohol for social situations on a regular basis if not in almost all social situations addicts. I would view this as mental addiction although completely different from physical and pretty much harmless in the long term its still addiction and thus making the majority of students alcoholics. :p

Its definate bullshit. From my drugs and behavior class its 80% or university students drink on a regular basis but 90%/10 drinks per week on average is pretty damn high. I would guess hes overestimating in hopes of feeling more like "a college student" than an alcoholic. I mean really 50 drinks a week is pretty high...

house parties here are gay. one of my younger professors was describing how at his college, people would sit out on their porch, you'd come up and buy a cup for $3-5 and get to go in and enjoy their kegs. this is completely foreign to me as all parties here are frats that only let members and attractive women in.

When your body becomes dependent on alcohol to function properly throughout the day and your mind develops a constant need for the substance to find any enjoyment....
that's what I call an alcoholic.
Alot of the people in college run around claiming they're alcoholics because they drink alot, but they have no clue what real alcoholism really is.

Re: Alcoholic or "College Student"

I left and started up my own business and work from home while doing drugs most of the day and living how I want to. Stupid kids these days don't know what to do with themselves after highschool so they think "Oh, let's go to college. After we get a bullshit degree in something we like, but not like after we get it, we'll be rich forever!!!".
Plus the things I was spending 10,000 a SEMESTER on were things I already knew. If I want to learn something that interests me, I'll buy a book on it and learn by myself. I don't need a classroom full of fuckheads and a shitty professor to do that.
You take most of the kids in college these days and put them in college back in the fucking 1800's. You just see how well they do. College is just highschool for older people nowadays.

You are so naive if you think you are paying for knowledge, you are paying for a degree so you can get a job.

Besides the obvious fact that you didn't fucking go to school back then either, education was a joke back then and not nearly as advanced nor effective. The funding from the federal government for schools in the 1800's was miniscule compared to today. You are obviously talking out of your ass.

I run my own advertising firm. I have people working FOR me. I advertise porn sites, company products, internet services, you name it all from my own room. And get a nice check each month for maybe 3 days worth of work.
ou are so naive if you think you are paying for knowledge, you are paying for a degree so you can get a job.
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought school was there to actually learn, not get a peice of paper , which by the way doesn't guarantee you a job. I've worked as a computer specialist with just a highschool dipolma making $18 an hour. You know why? Because I showed them that I have the skills to do the job, which I've learned by myself on my own accord. I see people graduate all the time without knowledge in the field they got thier 40,000$ peice of paper in, yet they still don't know more about computers than I do. I wonder why.,..

If you know your history, which you obviously don't, education was taken way more seriously back then than in todays age. People actually went to learn, not to have 'fraternity parties' and drinking games all day long.
tl;dr school is for dipshits who can't learn or don't know what to do with their life.

Its easy to undermine college when you fucked up and couldn't cut it.

Yea, maybe by the 2% of Americans that went to college. Hardly anyone went to college back then, only the select few that wanted to be scholars.
tl;dr school is for dipshits who can't learn or don't know what to do with their life.

I pity you. The only way you can feel better by yourself is to try to convince everyone that your path of failure is the only logical choice. I love your broad generalization that everyone who goes to college is a dipshit. I hope you don't go to the doctor's office or hospital when you are hurt or sick, some dipshit might kill you.

Re: Alcoholic or "College Student"

Sort of. Let me explain. I run a company where I get in touch with companies that want to offer incentives to me to get other people to sign up for their product. If someone signs up for AOL under my company advertisement, I get paid $50, even if they don't keep the service. Now I get other people to work under me and do the 'dirty work' and I give them some of the profit. In the end I win.
Its easy to undermine college when you fucked up and couldn't cut it.
I didn't fuck up. I was just smart enough to realise what a waste of money it was and that it wasn't right for me.
Yea, maybe by the 2% of Americans that went to college. Hardly anyone went to college back then, only the select few that wanted to be scholars.
The only reason people go to college now is that they are pressured into it or they are forced in MINIMUM WAGE LABOR FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES!!! Give me a fucking break. If you have a brain that works you can find a job or create your own to make money.
I pity you. The only way you can feel better by yourself is to try to convince everyone that your path of failure is the only logical choice. I love your broad generalization that everyone who goes to college is a dipshit. I hope you don't go to the doctor's office or hospital when you are hurt or sick, some dipshit might kill you.
I don't need your pity. My path of failure, huh? Isn't that a "broad generalization" about people who don't go to college? Formed by brainwashed fuckheads from years of listening to other peoples opinions and not their own.
My point is, if you go to college, you should take it seriously. There are jobs out there SOME PEOPLE may be interested in thata ctually require medical school skills, like doctors as you point out, that's fine. But there's also a lot of things if people jsut worked hard by themselves they wouldn't need an expensive peice of paper just to prove they know what the fuck they're doing.

Re: Alcoholic or "College Student"
...
Without a college degree you'll never be making six figures. In my opinion bachelor degrees don't mean shit, but it does allow opportunity for grad work (PhD, JD, MD, Masters), and that's where the serious money comes into play.
And it's piece not peice.

You're making the assumption I want or NEED to make six figures. I couldn't give a fuck less about making the most money possibly.
Right now I'm making around 4,000 a month. That's enough to give me my own apartment/duplex in a very nice neighborhood, my own utilities, my own internet, my own car and insurance, my own health care, and still have around $1500 to spend on whatever I want, like food and drugs. I never want to get married or have kids, so that isn't going to be a problem. I'm perfectly happy living the way I am, so why the hell should I change it?
Different strokes for different folks, remember that.

Not to be a judgmental asshole but you sound like a hermit. All you want from life is to make a mediocre living, be alone, and do drugs?
And I wasn't assuming you want to make a good serious money. Obviously you don't if you dropped out of college. But don't criticizes others for being more... ambitious?

You sound like a psychic to me. :) I've always been a loner. I have no friends by choice. I've lived in the woods for a month when I was 17 and it was the best month of my life. I'll build myself a shack one day in the remote wilderness, feed off the land, and live in total peace of not having to deal with piece of shit scum - humans.
To your edit -- Yes, I do. The only things that I've found enjoyable in life is music, drugs, myself, and nature.

Oh god, please stop... this is fucking hilarious. Having one of those shitty pyramid scamming referral sites is not even REMOTELY close to owning an advertising firm LMFAO. I bet you haven't even made the minimum to cash out.

That is the biggest crock of shit I have read on here in a while. There is no fucking way you run a shitty pyramid referral site and make 4 grand a month.
I can get into the painful details and pick apart your fantasy life from your posts if you continue to stick to that made up fairy tale story.

That's because it's not a pyramid scheme site or anything related to what you're thinking. Anyway, this is stupid to argue over. I've made my opinions, like them or hate them, you decide.

I'll give you props for trying to walk away with some dignity after I ravished your made up BLTC life. I also like how you said "i've made my opinions" and decided not to defend yourself or even try to prove me wrong. Good choice.

I see no point in getting in childish arguements with you.

I've been thinking about getting AOL recently, mind giving me the link to your advertising firm? I could make you some money.
