What the fuck? They just announced that, starting next year, they'll be drug testing ALL extra/co-curricular activities. Talk about a kick in the balls, next year is my senior year. They haven't said how they'll go about doing it yet, but damn. It just gives stoners more incentive to just sit at home and do nothing so they doin't get into serious trouble. my school is trying to do the same thing its cool though because they wont kick you out the first time, and they cant start it until the second semester of my senior year, so they only have time to test the student body once.

Wow thats fucking retarded. It's just going to discourage people to be involved in any extra curricular activities. Why would it matter if some people in those activities DID smoke pot? As long as they don't get caught with it at school I don't see why it should matter what they do AWAY from school. This world is just getting more and more retarded by the second. So look to see a lot of kids drop out of their sports and activities. I guess it won't matter to the stoners who aren't in any of those activities and don't give a fuck about school, its just testing the kids who are less likely to do drugs. What a good use of public money. Protect those kiddos from drugs.

The answer is : parallel infrastructure. The school can only require testing to participate in school-operated events. They have no power over people getting together to play chess/football/whatever who just happened to meet at school.

I wouldn't let them, regardless of my drug use (or lack there of). Unfortunately I'm not the best at sports, but imagine if all the starting players on the varsity football team refused to be tested. You should try to convince all the athletes (the good ones at least) to refuse to be tested and have their privacy invaded upon.

JP: I don't think it would be very plausible to start sports leagues and convince athletes in your school and other schools to join. Especially when he only has 1 more year there. It would be pretty cool if it worked but I think civil disobedience (Ghandi style) would have a better chance. You wouldn't need to rely on other schools' participation.

Edit: Is your school public or private? The civil disobedience might not work if you ask people to risk getting expelled, especially when they're paying tuition and are about to graduate.

I live in Aus and I've heard talks about it, but thank fucking christ a fair few liberal mp's and some right wing agree it is an invasion of privacy and what happens at school shouldn't infringe upon our personel lives. Anyway if it did happen it'd only be at private schools so that thankfully leaves me out.

I'm so glad that schools in England don't drug test, and employers don't [at least not on the scale that American companies seem to drug test].

They proposed that at my middle school once, and California shut that shit down FAST.

What they did in highschool was do confidential drug testing for parents who signed up. The results would never be revealed to the school and only to the parents. The school didn't do the testing, it was a "non-affiliated" company.

Everytime they wanted to test me, I would pull a nancy reagan and just say no. The person doing the test would protest, I would laugh at them and walk out. She would call my mom (who doesn't care) instead of my dad (who signed me up) and told her I wasn't being compliant and wouldnt take the test.

Nope, our school didn't. Which is a good thing, because if we were the speech and debate team wouldn't have existed.

This prolly sounds a little extreme but you could entice an ACLU lawyer to defend you for free and possibly take that shat to supreme court, after all it is a violation of your right to privacy even if sports are considered extra-curricular events. Downside: everyone's gonna know you use.
