Default Legality of "Vapor Lounges"

So here in canada we have this place, lets just call it the vapor lounge. A person 18+ can enter this lounge, pay 5$ and smoke marijuana (or vaporise in a variety of vape's) in the comfort of the middle of downtown.

So my question to you totse, is it just illegal to sell weed in canada? and is it okay to smoke it?

I'm not going to pretend to understand the intricacies of Canadian drug law, but I believe it boils down to two things. One, weed is mostly decriminalized, isn't it? I'm not sure if you guys have the same Federal/State breakdowns for drug laws, so perhaps it's only in some provinces, but whatever the case is, it brings me to point two, which is that what regulations you guys do have seem to be inconsistently enforced.

So are the lounges legal? It's probably a pretty gray area. I mean, setting up a place to smoke weed is probably technically illegal, but given the climate that seems to pervade up there, it's probably one of those things that's just overlooked. Even if someone wanted to bust them for it, I imagine the proprietors have enacted some sort of plausible deniability measures. "Oh, no, officer, this place isn't for smoking weed, it's just a club for people to hang out in. If anyone is smoking marijuana, we don't know about, nor do we encourage it... We're just in the back trying to run a business, scout's honor!"

I mean, go to a nightclub. How much fucking cocaine is going through any club on any night? A lot. But the owners aren't (generally) going to be busted because they didn't create a place to use drugs. They created a legitimate business (a night club in this case, a "social lounge" in your case), that a few bad apples happened to use as a place to do drugs. As long as they have the facade of not supporting the drug use and taking "appropriate measures" to ensure no laws are broken, business owners tend to have a certain level of protection from that.

Essentially weed is decriminalized in Canada with the exception of assholes.

Ex1. You are being an asshole, so a cop will arrest you for anything he can, like having a joint on you.

Ex2. The cop had a bad day (or life), so hes in an asshole mood and arrests people for weed just because he wants to be a prick.

If people are just smoking weed in a lounge, not causing trouble, then the police don't give a shit. Regardless of what the actual laws are, the police are the ones that enforce those laws, so ultimately the choice is theirs and usually they don't care unless your causing them problems.

Its the same thing with a lot of laws. It is illegal to fill your bath tub with oranges. Sodomy is illegal.

Cops wouldn't enforce those laws unless they had an alternative reason for doing so. Marijuana is beginning to fall under the same category. Yes it is illegal, but no one really gives a fuck anymore.

I don't know what one your talking about but I know one that actually has Volcanos sitting out for use.

Also, I'm a bit late with this edit but Doctor_Ew420 is right, it"s not decriminalized and the places are illegal as far as I'm aware. It's only illegal to smoke in public buildings not your house, cigarettes I mean.

Marijuana is NOT decriminalized... what the fuck are you talking!?

Yes, I know of two or more vapour lounges in toronto.

They rent small rooms that have a vaporizer and a couch and shit, then leave you alone for an hour, or you can order food into the room.

It is not legal, but they are thriving businesses that sell food, coffee and supply a place for people to vaporize. Smoking indoors is illegal in Canada, this is why these places usually have rooftop patios.

WTF are you talking about? No one said marijuana was decriminalized. What I meant was that the cops don't really enforce the law, so in reality it is kinda decriminalized.

You have to be stupid to get busted for marijuana in Canada.

You kinda did make it sound like a more legal thing then it really is, law enforcement just doesn't care most of the time otherwise you probably have one of the two situations aliveupboy noted.

I have seen people get in big shit for it although they were in highschool (Literally).

I have seen dozens of people get in trouble for marijuana in Canada. There was a large Hydro bust 2 towns over a few days ago, I have been arrested with weed.

Ya growing and dealing large amounts are another story.

But seriously, you must have some gay ass cops around you man. I live in Canada and my friends have been busted dealing. The cops took their weed and thats it. No charges or anything.

Cops have caught me smoking a joint behind a grocery store once and he just said don't cause trouble and walked away.

The only people I hear that get in shit for weed are either dumb ass wigger faggots, or they got caught dealing IN a school, which is a big no no.

Either you were fucking around and causing trouble when you got busted, OR you got an asshole cop.

EDIT: How do you even get caught with weed? I just know the cops are laid back because my friends get let off the hook all the time, but I have only ever been caught 1 time (behind the grocery store). What do you do to get baited out? Like seriously, I don't get how people get arrested. I go by 2 rules. DO NOT display drugs in public. Do not do anything illegal or bait while holding. It has served me well.

seriously please elaborate on how you and your friends get arrested. I would imagine its pretty fucking hard to get busted, like did you walk into a tim hortons hitting a bong or mouth off to a cop while wearing a weed leaf shirt or what?

Dealing in a school is a massivly bad idea, especially the school I currently go to. They are trying to clean up their name so we have kids get in trouble pretty much every day.

It also, as aliveupboy said, has a lot to do with just being smart about it, I have weed on me almost everyday of the week at school and have been high there so many times.
I don't sell and I don't tell people or make a show of it.
Never been caught.

It's much more relaxed when your in Toronto walking around or in a city or town.

Schools are very off limits however.

The BC Marijuana Party Vapour lounge in vancouver is pretty dope. You're let into the lounge, which has a few couches and a few volcanoes. You have to bring your own weed though. They give you a small cloth soaked in ethanol to clean the mouth piece. There are several legal uses for it. First of all, everyone working at the BC Marijuana Party are medicinal marijuana users. They can claim the vaporizers are for that. Also, they can deny knowing what their customers are putting into the vaporizers.
There was one big mistake they did though, and that was lending us a badly used grinder, which must've had half a gram of bud crumbs in it.
We where allowed to smoke in there aswell. We tried out our newly bought bongs and pipes in there all the time.
I wonder what would happen if you put their salvia in the vaporizer!
At the time we went there, we were 16 years old. They didn't ask for ID, but we where big customers. Alltogether we've bought several hundred dollars worth of pipes, books, magazines, bongs, and stuff there.

You have to be fucking retarded to get busted for weed anywhere.

With exception of crazy places like Dubai airport where they have machines which can detect bits of cannabis smaller than a grain of sugar.

No, I disagree with you. The exception you state is among the places retards would be caught. If you did your homework and found out about those machines, then you'd get rid of all your weed. And if you're smoking peacefully in the woods, and out of nowhere a cop comes up, does that make you a retard? Bad luck /= retardation

Good luck cleaning all your clothes of EVERY tiny speck of weed which you can't even see.

And you're in WOODS, you can just run into the woods and they would not catch you for shit until you stash your weed somewhere.

Keep in mind you cannot so easily think straight when you're baked beyond belief and a cop comes out of nowhere. What you said just doesn't always work in

Neither does always researching. I remember a story about one guy who got busted at that Dubai airport, the speck of pot was on the bottom of his shoe or something. He probably just picked it up somewhere, maybe he's never smoked pot ever. But he still got busted for that.

I was waiting out front of a store in Bethany Beach, DE for no more than 3 minutes when a police officer rolls up and hassles me for loitering. I repeatedly said I do not consent to any searches so he called in an older, more dickhead officer to straight up violate my rights and search me.

Sometimes you get into a situation that you can not get out of no matter how hard you try.
