Windows Vista or Puppy Linux.

I basically have a quick question. If you had a choice to run either windows vista or puppy linux, which one would you choose?

...I have never used puppy linux, but only seen pictures of the desktop, and it seems that puppy will only install on this Laptop. Im not going to get into it, because its neither here or there, but its basically down the system hardware which very linux unfriendly, other people who have the same laptop, have the same problem.

..but however, apparently puppy installs fine and works perfect. I have only recently come to understand this, but some guy who said puppy just went all the way and installed fine. but every other distro like ubuntu, knoppix, suse, debain, fedora..all the popular ones just hang on install. So where still kinda in the process of solving it.

Meanwhile, i've been using vista and can honestly say its pissing me off now, i keep getting the blue shutdown screen, sometimes it takes ages to start up, i have to protect it constantly from viruses,spy/mal ware .etc etc.


If i do decide to install puppy, would i be able to just modify it from there to match a more popular linux distro, what is the extent on modification.

So overall questions..

Do you think i should make the switch?

If puppy works, I don't see why Ubuntu or Debian wouldn't work.

At all accounts, avoid vista, though.

One thing you could do is install Gentoo manually through Knoppix. If it works on puppy, it'll definitely work on Knoppix.

vista is poop. I think I read in the paper that microsoft is going to switch to plan 9. Its that bad.

It can be modified to match a popular distro. This however would take way too much effort on your part and really just isnt worth it.

Try installing in safe-graphics mode if you can. That solves most problems with hanging on install... (Or me at least)

AAAAAAARGH puppy is a crock of confusing filth. The 'start' menu is illogical and your bombarded with dumb noobish shit from the off. Whats more their 'package management' is a joke, it gives you a short list of options and a bunch of suggestions as to where you could look for other .pups.

Somone should put this puppy to sleep.
