Quiting Methadone
I've been on methadone for years now, and I need to quit with in the next two months. Currently I am taking 40mg daily. I have also heard that the methadone withdrawal is worse then heroin withdrawals. And heroin withdrawal was horrible even with methadone.
I have access to valium, but I've been taking it at 10mg's per day. And would also like to get off of it if I can. I figure that quiting opioid-like substances and benzo's at the same time would be horrible.
Any help about what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Quiting Methadone
If you're coming off the benzo too, do this in a detox center or a hospital. The violence of methadone withdrawal compounded with a benzo withdrawal could prove lethal or extremely damaging without medical staff to watch you.
After detoxing? Well, if you're like me, you need divine help staying clean. If you're just hooked on the shit, you can probably stay clean by picking up new hobbies and hanging around different people.
If you are like me though (that is, completely unable to enjoy life without chemical dependency, thus doomed to addiction), and are willing to do anything to stay clean, get your ass to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, get 'first stepped', get a fucking sponsor, and work those motherfucking steps.
You'll ask yourself questions like, "How can an imaginary being fucking help me?" And, "How is all this shit related to me being an addict?" And, "Why should I apologize and rectify the situation with THAT motherfucker?" And so on...I asked my self all that, too. Truth is, I still don't know exactly how it did what those ex-druggies and drunks said it would...but I'm not spending every penny I make on drugs and drinks, I'm not stealing liquor from Hilander anymore so I can get fucked up and sell the extra for drug money, I'm not homeless anymore, I'm not lonely anymore, and I don't hate my self anymore. All in all, it worked for me, and I've personally met a few thousand other people it has worked for, too.

Re: Quiting Methadone
Good luck, i'd suggest using this two months to taper down, say 2.5mg per week, maybe more?
I'd then use the valium when trying to go completely off the Done, don't get a benzo habit from this though. Why are you going off Done if I may ask?

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but why the fuck would methadone withdrawals be worse than heroin withdrawals? wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the methadone in the first place? again i don't know much about this but that must not be true, if it is that's retarded.

the withdrawals are stronger, the drug is stronger and stays in your system alot longer. its main purpose is just to get people off the streets and off the needles. It has some less euphoria also, ive tried methaodne a few times never had withdrawals tho. but everyone i know whos been on a methadone program has had a hell of a time getting off it.

Man this has been a known thing. When a drug of the opiate/oid nature has a longer halflife withdrawals are generally longer and drawn out but a little less intense(like methadone). Heroin on the otherhand has a short duration of action and halflife which results in a shorter but much more intense withdrawal. So it is basically a trade off.

hes correct, longer w/d that not only lasts longer (say 3-4 weeks) but is much worse. also consider the average user gets 80+mg per day at the clinic and you can easily see why...
ask any junkie whois been to the clinic and or tried Done to self taper...

Re: Quiting Methadone
I'm getting off both of the drugs because the methadone is causing physical problems in my body, and I feel like I've been using valium as a a crutch. I don't get "high" off of either one, even at two to three times the normal dose.
Also I cannot goto the hospital seeing as I have no insurance, and seeing as I cannot get any cash until I am off these. So I assume tapering is going to be the best course.

its worked for me man, but staying off opis is the biggest problem, also if you find the full drop off no methadone to be to stressfull then you could use some short duration opiates like hydrocodone/oxycodone to ease down the long half life of methadone, be sure to only use what you really need and dont get hooked on either of them either...
