Glass cracked... :(
Well me and my brother got a really nice "house" piece awhile back for $140. Just something that we will never take out of the house because it is so nice and we wouldn't want to risk it getting broken or confiscated. It is a nice bubbler with some sick flame designs all around it, and blue where there is no design. I will post pics later when I have them.
Anyway, to make a long story short it has a crack in the water chamber that is bad enough to leak. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to save the piece.
So my question to you is, is there anything I can use to seal up the crack permanently that isn't too aesthetically unpleasing. It's on the underside so I'm not that worried about it, just as long as it won't come off.
I already have tried hot glue, but fuck if that did anything. It just came off like five minutes after I put water in the thing.
HELP PLEASE!

Re: Glass cracked... :(
Try cleaning it up and applying super glue to the inside with a cue tip. You could try doing it to the outside, but I'm not sure how plaesing it would look.

glass glue, i think gorilla glue would work, and prolly super glue. do it the way death snuggle said, on the inside with qtip if thats possible if not, the outside will be fine just tacky

Re: Glass cracked... :(
Could I get glass glue at say, Walmart?
And It would be impossible to get it exactly where I need it on the inside, you will see why when I post pics.
Half the battle is that the glass is opaque.
I don't think it would look too bad if I did it carefully.

Re: Glass cracked... :(
Oh wow. We've had way too many "nice house pieces" break for me to know what to do. The first thing you want to do is coat it in epoxy (available at home depot, lowes, etc. etc.). Give it like two or three good, thick coats. After that, let it dry. We have two kinds of tape on the outside. A thickesh layer of electrical tape, and a decent layer of this industrial, thick as shit tape. Holds up mad good now.

Re: Glass cracked... :(
It is chipped partially. The chip is actually not even .3mm, but I'm pretty sure that is where it leaks a little bit.
I am going to use the shoe goo, applying it with the broken end of a q-tip. After cleaning the bub thoroughly of course.

Re: Glass cracked... :(
Woah, bad advice in here.
Those things mentioned will stop the leak, but the glass will look like crap.
Best thing is to get a blowtorch and use that to put the glass back together right. There si some technique to doing it, but torches are cheap and the info is out there.

just keep in mind that if its anything above the amount to fill the crack it will look bad. take a paint brush and thinly coat it so its not a glob. A good looking piece should stay a good looking piece ya know

Re: Glass cracked... :(
Yea, well I will be applying shoe goo with the tiniest paint brush that I have in my current possession.
It won't look that bad, did I mention the crack is on the under side.
Or should I use just some good super glue?
I have both super glue and shoe goo, the problem is I don't know how well the shoe goo will stick to the glass with water involved.

Clean it. Send it to me in the mail with something to make me want to fix it.(ie cash). Ill send it back fixed. I a glassblowers apprentice. It shouldnt be to hard to fix. It just needs a little time under he RedMax Surface mix and about a day in the kiln.

shoe goo is water proof , but it does "fray" thats why i would say put a tiny amount so its not thinning out on the edges of the application. I'd think super glue is good too just make sure its not water soluble. shoe goo out of the tube is basicly liquid rubber. If you do have gorilla glue i'd think that'd be good too. I'm no glue aficionado so i cant really tell you whats best but i've used shoe goo to make pieces and its pretty reliable

You have to heat it up evenly so the glass won't crack. Your right that it wouldn't look much nicer. A big consideration is keeping the crack from getting bigger, and also the strength of the bond. Sanding it then using epoxy seems like a good enough way to go.
The thing with torches is that it is useful for a lot of things, and knowing how to shape glass with one is just a good skill to have if you smoke.
