Psilocybin for depression
I'm told that psilocybin has the potential to cure depression if taken in multiple, spaced out doses. Does anybody know approximately what the minimum doses might be to have an effect?

Re: Psilocybin for depression
i have heard people say that shrooms have brought them out of depression, because it changes their view on life. But you could also have a bad trip if your depressed so it goes both ways.
and to spl1ff sertaline sucks, makes you not cum lol.

No, it makes you not cum.
OP, shrooms most likely won't bring you out of a depression. If they would, they would be somewhere recongized in western medicene for doing so. Having self proclaimed psychonaughts and stoners say it will help your personal problems is fucking stupid.
But to anwser your question unlike everyone else, a low dose would be 2-2.5 grams of shrooms, to trip would be about a 8th.

after recent experiences i have realized anti depressants suck ass.
for depression, try 5-htp.
anyway, psilocybin has shown potential effects for OCD, not depression.

There is a lot of evidence that psilocybin may help treat depression, and while psychiatrists certainly aren't prescribing it, there is definitely research going into it.anyway, psilocybin has shown potential effects for OCD, not depression.OCD and depression.

your an idiot, no one answered that question cuz its already been answered like 3 times this week and its still on the first page. And alot of people of people have felt alot less depressed after taking mushies. and zoloft (setraline) does make alot of people not cum. From the official website:
Setraline can cause other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as:
drowsiness, dizziness, weakness;
nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight; or
decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm.

I was looking for an alternative to prescription meds, which have too many side effects for me. 5-htp is a joke when it comes to treating depression (good dreams, however). I think I'll just shoot from the hip and say half an eighth bimonthly.

Re: Psilocybin for depression

I know many people that have been personally affected by depression. They've been prescribed (as I'm sure most of you can guess) a multitude of different medications, coupled with therapy, to fight this disease.
Robinhoody, if I had the time to sit down here and find studies that suggest correlation between a psychoactive substance and emotional disease, we could be here all day!
Point being, people don't get depressed and take shrooms. They deal with their issues, problems, go to therapy, take medication (whats that shit we have for being depressed again? oh zoloft/wellbutrin/insert anti depressant here.
At most, I think most smart people would be able to realize shrooms are a window to dealing with problems, but honestly there is such a sheep like following on drug users counting on drugs to help with their fucking problems like this.
Forgive me if I came across harsh :)

But that wasn't your argument. You never said anything about over dependence on medication or anything even remotely related to that. Your post simply said that psilocybin was not recognized anywhere in western medical literature as being beneficial for depression. Which was wrong.
If you want to argue that people depend too much on drugs, fine, I'll actually be on your side. But that is in no way related to what your original argument was.

I wasn't talking about over dependence on medication, I was talking about over dependence by idiot drug users on things like this! Which....ta da! Results from it not being a legitimate way to fucking treat depression (as seen in the west...)
Throw all the correlative studies at me you want, the drugs being prescribed and used by patients that have depression in the United States, arn't, and don't include shrooms for a fuckin reason!

ya cuz its to easily abused, and its side effects ooutweigh its antidepression uses. Not because it doesnt work. and ive never seen anyone dependent on mushrooms, but ive seen them dependent on SSRI's...

Re: Psilocybin for depression
From my personal experience, mushrooms, while incredibly amazing and worthwhile, did not change my perspective in any way related to depression.
LSD, on the other hand pushed me to think about personal problems in a very positive and relaxed way. And since that trip I've become more confident, more proactive, and I've gotten my act together in a pretty short period of time.
So yeah psychedelics are win.

Thank you for making me not have to go on a search for the studies, buddy.
For about a month I was eating 2-3 small caps a day just to see what would happen. It wasn't enough to feel any major effects besides the slightest mood lift. Since then I've been happy and stayed happy, but it could have something to do with changes that I'm making in my life. The changes were made after my month of Psilocybin Munching.
I'm not trying to prove anything here, other then that a couple caps a day for a month more than likely made a beneficial change in my brain chemistry.

Re: Psilocybin for depression
Ketamine, at least for me, has had the greatest anti-depressant effects that I have ever experienced in my life out of any drug.
I would recommend trying this before trying shrooms to help with depression.

Re: Psilocybin for depression
if you're sad going into a trip it might give you a bad trip and youll realize your life could be worse(like that day you had that bad trip). MDMA however is know for curing depression...
EDIT: take an 8th, or enough you give you a mindfuck so you can apprishate being sober(living) I have known a lot of depressed people that used MDMA. It didn't cure depression for any of them. I've never heard of anyone using it as a cure, mostly just as an alternative treatment and a tool, like shrooms. All the depressed people I know seem to love mdma though. I don't know if they'd prefer shrooms or mdma. Probably shrooms since there's more to them. I'll ask some of them. stealth_15 probably came from the bad ideas forum or the anime forum, he reminds me of one of those people that say "its illegal for a reason. obviously its illegal cause its bad for you"
Psilocybin can definitely be a very effective treatment for depression. Different people will of course respond differently to it.
Psilocybin helped me a lot and I agree with the "it could be worse" part about bad trips.
This is an interesting quote too.
"
SR: At this point in your life, I'd guesstimate that you've met more than one of the goals you've set for yourself?
DT: I've had superficial goals that I've reached and I thought that was it; but, no I have had only one goal and I just reached it two months ago and it had nothing to do with my music.
It's just the knowledge that I can do anything I want and be anybody I want to be now. As pompous as this all sounds, it's true. Ironically, it was through the use of mushrooms. All through my childhood I was anti-drug. When I hit 22 I had a work ethic established, a genesis of a personality and I started experimenting.
You know what, if you work with it as a tool and as a responsible human being you won't sit there and just watch television and veg out. I recommend this to everyone. We should outlaw drugs that keep you from thinking."

Yes. And that reason is that the US government is practicing medicine without a liscence.
Incidentally, heroin is barred as a painkiller in the US for the same reason - because it was barred from medical use by the act of government officials without a medical degree.
Are you now going to argue that heroin has zero analgesia?
