Replacing every other vice with beer..
Well, a few weeks ago my dealer got busted and is now spending a cool five years in the slammer. Along with him, my best friend went with him (they lived together, friend's sister was the dealer's girlfriend.) and due to his grow-op will probably be spending quite a while in orange as well.
So since then I've taken some time to re-evaluate the whole scene, getting stoned among other things, just isn't as appealing as it used to be. And now, even though I can still find it regularly, with my main guy gone it's just not worth it.
So, I do what any retiring pothead would do, turn to beer.
I've quit smoking weed and doing everything else illicit except for those hallucinogens which are few and far between. However, I now drink just about every other day. Which as of yet hasn't affected me negatively, I still go to work every day etc etc. I guess it's what you could call a functioning alcoholic, anyways, has anyone else found this as an acceptable tool to get away from harder drugs (not necessarily calling pot a hard drug, but anything beyond that) and staying away from them?

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Yes, it kind of works. Only risk is developing alcoholism really.
Frankly, high>drunk in myriad of ways. Probably better for you in the long run.
Do you drink until you're inebriated, or merely getting a good buzz going? If it's the latter you're in good shape.
And please, I hate when people use the term modern temperance movements coined "functioning alcoholic."
An alcoholic is one who can't function without alcohol. Therefore by elimination one can conclude that a functioning alcoholic is indeed not an alcoholic, but somebody who likes their beer.
Nothing "alcoholic" in that.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Haha, fair enough, I'm not a 'functioning alcoholic' that was just the most relevant term that came to mind.
And it really all depends on how I'm feeling that day, I'd say I get excessively inebriated atleast 2-3 times a week, usually between Friday and Saturday, the rest of the week after work and stuff I drink significantly less and only to the point of a good buzz.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Stick with weed man. It'll be better for you in the long run.
If you're smart about it, it's not hard to keep it on the down-low.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
You dont HAVE to turn to alchohol. The only thing you really need is food and water. Obviously if you do decide you want to drink everyday, your risking addiction. Do what you want.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Why dont you just not smoke weed instead of smoking weed? Or get another job because you have alot more freetime. Or, I know its almost unheard of, but save your money for something in the future.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Marijuana is safer and more fun than beer. Beer isn't great on your digestive system or your liver or a lot of other things (lot of calories).

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
the only thing that alcohol doesnt do which i like is "burn you out".
weed makes me have no energy whatsoever and alcy makes me just feel numb...but it doesnt affect my motivation, infact it makes me more aggresive...plus i can talk much better drunk than while high.
if i could choose i would be on kpins all the time.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..

Just do what I did! Apparently I'm manic because some stupid shrink said so. After complaining that seroquel is a fucking devil substance, the psych is just feeding me benzos like candy now. I've only visited her twice. I even said I didn't want them.... stupid bitch can't listen!
Fucking medicated America. Oh something's wrong with you? Here's your philosopher's stone! Just take two of these a day and you'll be normal just like everyone else! fucking stupid....
So now I get:
60/12.5mg Chlorodiazepoxide tabs/month (reallly weak benzo)
60/2mg Kpins/month
30/5mg valiums/month
I rarely take any of them; talk about serious amnesia. Makes for good fund raising potential lol.
Anyways, back on topic. Eh, I honestly feel weed>EtOH Alcohol's great for social situations. That's the beauty of the substance! But I don't feel it's a good "drug" for general and habitual use. If you only drink to get a nice buzz, then I don't see a problem. Drinking to get drunk habitually isn't going to put you on a good path. I hope you can understand the contrast I'm trying to make...
Either way, just watch your shit. If you have sufficient self-control, you should be fine.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
Frankly, I think it's a terrible idea. It may not be affecting you now, but alcohol will eventually turn on you if you drink every other day. Alcohol has the potential to cause so much future misery, it's amazing it's still legal, and other things aren't.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
What Social Junker wrote is very true.
Alcohol is very fun, and an excellent "social lubricant", if you will, but you can't forget it is poison (I use the term not literally).
It WILL come back around to kick you in the ass.
Funny thing is, I write this with a beer in my hand.
Alcohol, as far as I am concerned, is almost as dangerous as cocaine; possibly equally dangerous.
As with just about everything in life, moderation is always the key when it comes to the sauce.

Alcohol sucks, just try out some different drugs and see what you like.

Join a gym, put on a bit of muscle and get fit. Nothing better than being more physically able than the majority.

Re: Replacing every other vice with beer..
I developed some sort of fucked up anxiety disorder when i was 18 and i've never been able to smoke weed like i used to since then. i blame shitty grit. but i'm in the same boat i drink beer constantly, like every day.. it hasn't really had any negative effects to be honest, except maybe to my liver.. i don't make an idiot of myself while im drunk or let it fuck up other aspects of my life.. beer > weed.. seriously. it's more fun socially.
