Default Lies About Marijuana In Health Class

I don't know if it's worth defending the drug. I'd like everyone to know in the class that lies are being spewed out of the teachers mouth, and only with this course of action that the stigma attached to marijuana, it's users, and cancer patients will be worsened. However, I'm afraid of personal attacks, attacks to my reputation, and being out argued by emotional arguments (which I know this teacher will use).

What I'm saying is, the first thing my heath teacher said about marijuana is this: "You use a bong when your a teenager, you quit smoking, five or six years later, you're at a party and you see a bong, you're going to WANNA smoke out of it." His claims and understanding of any psychological portion of marijuana are all like this; purely, fucking, emotional and pathetic arguments.

Taking this argument for example, say I defend it, I'd probably say something like this. "First of all, if you eat chocolate, or even spinnich for that matter, if your experience is pleasureable, you don't eat it and you see it a couple years down the line, you're going to probably want to eat that "S" or "C". All you're suggesting is once someone has used marijuana, they will want to use it again. Also, the "pleasure" in marijuana is an associated state and isn't some addictive pure-pleasure event. In fact, if someone were additcted for escapist reasons, as I assume your stigma is for, the fact that they hadn't smoked for a while shows they're not 'addicted'."

Well I don't know if that's a good argument in response, but he'd most likely respond: "Well, I don't know if you smoke marijuana, Kenton, but marijuana produces a "high" and once you get a taste of that "high" you're going to be craving that high for the rest of your life, it's a feeling that never goes away".

You see...it's like how do I defend marijuana if I'm arguing against someone whose knowlege is purely government studies and stigma, and has never experienced it. It's like, I know longer understand the way he thinks, so I can't argue on that level.

Anyways, I'm kind of venting cuz this guy kind of pisses me off. On an emotional level I feel like I have to defend it because I don't like a guy preaching that marijuana users are second-class citizens, failures at live, and are unhealthy in every aspect. My questions: you think I should defend it, worthwhile? Have any of you guys argued for the sake of your beliefs about drugs?

Umm, inb4 angst/rebellion.

Well there's my answer. I wish my health teacher would say something like that. Then I'd just claim obviously their parents smoked weed.

Anyone stupid enough to believe it doesn't deserve to smoke weed.

It's not that. I'd just like to change the norm of "weed is the devil" to "weed is not the devil and are/were being lied to".

Ask him if he believes in Santa too?

lol. He'd respond: "well I bet you do a lotta talkin' to him when you're high". Actually, I don't think he'd get the sarcasm in the first place.

Lol, Sometimes I think the teachers do that, just to see who the potheads of the class are. I would just let them speak bullshit. It makes them sound stupid not you. When you argue with them, it makes you look like a pothead though. Which is probably the intentions of the teacher in the first place.

When all is said and done, nobody really gives a shit anyways. Its just pot.

When in school, I was told that 'every toke of a spliff could [potentially] kill you'.

The sheer lies they told us - the Leah Betts horror story for one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leah_Betts - made me want to do drugs.
I figured that the shit they were telling us was obviously complete lies; which got me interesting in finding out the reality of drugs; that then lead to me consuming them upon every opportunity.
Scaring kids doesn't stop them from doing shit. Just makes them curious.

Edit: off topic [slightly], but I've got to quote this:
An inquest determined that her death was actually not directly due to ecstasy consumption, but rather the large quantity of water she had consumed, apparently in observation of an advisory warning commonly given to ravers to drink water to avoid dehydration resulting from the exertion of dancing continuously for hours.
...
It arose later - though was much less publicised - that she had taken the drug at least three times previously.

Cunts, all of them.

Instead of defending weed, why dont you just compare and question the legality of tobbaco or alcohol (not to seem like a pothead):

teacher: if u smoke weed, u like, you addicted 4eva! once you addicted you chase teh feeling for teh rest of ur life!

you: isn't that the case with alcohol/tobbaco? plus I HAVE HEARD that alcohol/tobbaco is not only mentally addictive but PHISICALLY as well, unlike weed, and kills (insert statistical number) people every year through alcohol poisoning/cancer/car accidents, while there was not a single case of weed od or weed caused cancer. TELL ME YOU MOTHER FUCKER HOW MUCH DOES THE GOVERMENT PAY YOU TO DEMONIZE HARMLESS HERB WHILE THE REAL POISON IS BEING ADVERTIZED AND SOLD EVERYWHERE! LEGALLY! Is it because government cant profit from hardly taxable crop or is it because it would make all the idiots like you look retarded for all the bullshit propaganda you spewed over the years.
Then just flip toss your desk at the teacher and walk out of the class while every student applauds you.

Default Re: Lies About Marijuana In Health Class

do some reasearch and go fact for fact over him

strongest points

1)not a single case of death related to marijuana has ever been proven to be a direct cause of the drug itself, only by the actions taken by the user. this is true for many many other drugs, such as alcohol, only to a much more violent extent as alcohol causes rage and shot inhibitions. thus rape, fights, and drunk driving all are many times over more likely with alcohol, whilst marijuana, the user is merely "forgetful" and too at ease with the bliss. the marijuana user is still able to feel things, and many are more, positive, than alcohol. not a single person has died directly from usage of marijuana.

2) Marijuana cannot be taxed as thoroughly as the many products we already have. think about it. you have MANY different things being grown/produced, to manufacture only several things. Marijuana can span the duties of, wood, nutrition, plastics, clothing, and yes, even fuel. the first car by henry ford was made entirely of hemp plastics and yes, even ran on hemp oil. during WW1 and WW2 the farmers of america were ENCOURAGED to grow hemp to help produce more cloth for the war.

3) There was no actual disclosure as to why marijuana was illegalized, usually it takes several people to decide the legal status of a drug, only one person, who seemed to slip into the DEA illicitly passed the bill, along with very few other representatives.

Default Re: Lies About Marijuana In Health Class

The thing is, many people don't really know what the word 'addiction' truly means. People too often confuse addiction with just, you know, non-compulsively liking something. If Marijuana is addictive, then other normal things such as playing outside in the sun, riding rollercoasters and eating ice cream are per definition also addictive.

TRUE ADDICTION is this:

When you do something such as drinking alcohol, smoking crack or huffing ether for the first time, you will just like it the way you like the above mentioned non-addictive yet 'fun' activities. Do it twice, thrice, etc... and you'll still like it. After a certain number of uses (depending on the substance), it will start getting sortof old. I mean, you still love doing the drug, but the novelty or the 'magic' people always get when they use a substance for the first couple of times will have worn off. By now the user has become pretty familiar with the effect it produces. This is true for every drug/activity, be it marijuana, ice cream or cocaine.
But this point is where the train of events diverts.

When you look at traditionally non-addictive substances such as weed, the user will at this point either quit using the substance for a while, instinctively/naturally taper off its use, or just feel less excited about it, will think about it less, and will start focusing his/her thoughts on other things. Either way, the user's natural urge to continue using will fade away, perhaps completely. It is however likely that the user will once again end up looking forward to smoking weed again if it has been a while. The abstinence/tapering down period can last quite a long time. Many people who occasionally toked during high school and stopped using during the period emcompassing their early careers, the first years of mariage and the birth of their kids , sometimes end up smoking marijuana again during adulthood 'for old time's sake' or to bring back old memories. Never at one point during their lives did their use ever turn problematic or disrupted their lives.

But for substances generally found 'addictive' such as cocaine, cigarettes, etc., The user will not taper down when the initial discovery phase has ended. In fact, it feels as if the inital novelty never seems to end. The user starts feeling conflicting thoughts and emotions the more he uses. Even though the rational voice of his mind seems to say "I don't really like doing this drug anymore, I'd like to stop using it and do something else", there seems to be a sneaky, devilish and incredibly subtle voice/feeling/urge coming form his bowels that whispers "But on second thought... I kinda feel like doing some more." The presence of this 'little devil' (as many addicts like to style it) is most noticable either during the time between the peak of the high and the comedown, or when the user happens to be in the same setting where he usually does the drug (IE, smokers often relapse while driving their car). Addicts will even try to mask their own addiction to themselves: they will make up excuses to themselves in order to 'get permission' from their internal voice of reason to do the drug. "I'm in a stressful period of my life right now, I'll taper down when things are less hectic." "I've worked my ass off all day, I think I've at least earned myself the right to light up one cigarette."

The conflicting thoughts are a trademark of 'true addiction'; What addict has never had the following happen to him: You're sitting in your chair thinking about using coke. You feel bad about using, yet you can't resist the urge to do 'just one line'. You bust out a pile of coke, make a line from it, snort it, feel satisfied and tell yourself "I'll just settle with this" and you put the pile of coke away. Put the coke in the drawer, close the drawer. Then suddenly the 'little devil' is there, you can feel him nag at you: you want more, you need more. "Fuck it," you say, and before you know it the drawer opens, the pile is on your desk, you make a line and it goes back up your nose. "Damn it", you think, "I shouldn't have done this," and back to the drawer it goes. The drawer never stays closed for more than 10 minutes. Open, closed, open, closed, open, 'till all the coke has gone. While you're high, you're sitting there writing notes to yourself that tell you to stop, but when the last line starts lose its effect, you don't even bother reading them anymore. That's true addiction. Your asshole teacher claiming that weed is addictive is a fucking insult to people who wished they never touched the real addictive drugs or wished they at least had the common sence not to do them so much that it got them addicted.

Or during.

Also ^^^ Well put. Then there's the mental addiction to non addictive substances or activities, where you spend your downtime anticipating the moment you can enjoy said thing, and think of very little else. It's like that with porn addicts. They're either looking at porn, or thinking about doing so.

i hate the "facts" about pot they try to scare the class with. examples:

on being a gateway drug: "90% of drug users say marijuana was the first drug they used" it might actually be true, but the way its worded makes it sound like pot caused them to do other drugs. One could also say that 90% of drug users eat cereal (or anything for this matter) in the morning. So does cereal lead to drug use?

on the chemicals in marijuana: "marijuana has over 400 chemicals in it" again this is probably true, but compared to coffee which has over 1000 chemicals in it weed looks safer.

It always amuses me when people complain about how much school and teachers suck when they can't discern the difference between their and they're.

Regarding the pot being a gateway drug. It's the same logic that my chemistry teacher used jokingly, since he hates pickles: "How many of you are going to die?" *all raise hand* "How many of you have ever had a pickle?" *all raise hand* "Pickles kill people."

^ Truth. Probably the reason why most teenagers start to fuck with drugs in the first place.

if you want to know the facts there has been a death. albeit a monkey that died from smoking so much at one time and couldnt get enough oxygen. and ive heard on doctor phil a kid oded on it and got physically ill. also remember od doesnt mean death. if you get ill mental or physical effects its because you smoked to much. scizophrenia is linked to pot. anxiety is also. i guess it all depends on what the person thinks an od is.
also about the addiction term yes pot isnt addictive ok. its habit forming isnt that in a sense addiction. addiction in na/aa covers so many things. dependent use, social use, repetitive use to name a few.

you fail to realize that in a way you mentioning alcohol and tobacoo you are giving the best example to support the teacher. if your a recovering alcoholic what are the odds you would go to a bar just for the hell of it and not drink. ive done it a few times even though i knew its stupid but its easy to get tempted. cigarettes same thing if you quit smoking for a day are you going to go to a humidor and expect to quit. in each case odds are small so the teacher is going by numbers. yeah pot is different but its still habit forming and odds are if you do it once youll do it again. not to the extreme but try to prove that to a teacher/doctor.

btw there are books on how all drugs became illegal including pot and details of the propaganda and court precedings over them. almost everyone voted to make pot illegal. i cant remember their names but they are out there.

i dont by their shit either but dont bother bringing it up in class and drawing unwanted attention. make a story up asking for sources maybe say you want to be a drug counselor. over time ask for more specific sources then show her the truths in private and back out of drug counseling idea. save face like how some view christianity. yeah it has good intentions but its all bullshit.

and ive heard on doctor phil a kid oded on it and got physically ill. also remember od doesnt mean death. if you get ill mental or physical effects its because you smoked to much. scizophrenia is linked to pot. anxiety is also. i guess it all depends on what the person thinks an od is.

OD, or overdose, is a reference to the LD-50. That is the lethal dose for 50% of the population tested. Its not an event, its a quantity.

You can take a lot of drugs and get sick. Thats called taking too much, and getting sick.

If you take a dose near the LD-50, and nearly die (if don't hit the bucket right then and there), then you can say you overdosed.

Might as well add that the LD-50 for grass is well above possible consumption.

It is impossible to OD on weed because THC doesnt affect the cerebellum. this is the part of the brain that regulates things like breathing and heart rate. drugs that kill by overdose disturb the cerebellum to the point that the heart siezes, or respiration stops.

the only concievable way for one to "overdose" on cannabis is to asphyxiate on the smoke.

It's been said already but you can't argue with a fool. Even if you go fact for fact with old teach he's just gonna counter your attacks with some biased study/fact and say his source is more legitimate. So, don't argue with this fool unless you just love argument. This reminds me of when I had to take my risk reduction class for a DUI same BS but much more extreme. The instructors favorite argument was that you will never see anyone shoot heroin with a meal or smoke a joint after eating. Similar to the way someone may have a beer with diner and then a cigarette after finishing. Thats wasn't as rediculous as some of the made up facts but it's probably still one of the worst arguments I've heard to date.

Dare class made PCP sound like it would turn you into a super hero. When I was young I thought that I could do PCP and then use the strength it gave me for good.

On a lighter note I lol'd when I read this.
