Default MDMA Mimics the Post-Orgasmic State

While this might be good news for some of you, others of us try to avoid that evil substance known as prolactin.

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or "Ecstasy") is a major stimulant drug of abuse worldwide. MDMA produces euphoria, enhances interpersonal communication and feelings of closeness with others. In contrast to the induced emotions of affection and sensual enhancement, clinical studies show that it impairs sexual drive and functioning. In drug-free humans, sexual stimulation with orgasm induces a pronounced secretion of prolactin, which may mediate the post-orgasmic state. The phenomenological features of the psychological state induced by MDMA show some similarities with features of the post-orgasmic state. In addition, MDMA also induces a prominent increase of prolactin plasma levels with a similar time kinetic compared to the post-orgasmic prolactin increase. Here, we present the hypothesis that the impairment of sexual parameters after MDMA may be mediated by increased prolactin.

Umm, it doesn't say anything about permanance.

Even if it did, it would then need to explain why orgasms are any better.

Quit being such a worry wort. :)

Rizzo,

What are the dangers of prolactin? Is your fear based around it's decrease of testosterone? Would other phenethylamines/amphetamines do the same thing? I know this is kinda drifting off topic, but while you're here, what is your opinion damages caused by acute use of of phenethylamine RCs?

I may posses certain genes that are prone to blood clotting based on something to do with testosterone and shit. I'm not exactly sure what, but after my dad had a blood clot in his leg he sat me down and warned me about the dangers of steroids and my sister the dangers of birth control saying there is a decent chance that they'll clot our blood up because they're synthetic hormones or something and we have the same genes as him. Should I be worried about my very casual consumption [6 times a year tops] of P.E. hallucinogens and occasional use of amphetamine?

Good to see you back...

I read rizzos other posts about prolactin in a sex-related thread.

He linked to this (http://www.humpjones.com/rear/entry/prolactin_proof_that_god_hates_us/). Very informative.

Basically, as far as I can see, prolactin makes you less nice, more grumpy, more stressed out, less of a sexual performer, more general negativity in your life, etc. And it takes around two weeks for it to leave your system.

This rekindled my interest in tantra.

zOMG!

Orgasm = Prolactin
MDMA = Prolactin

Sex will make you less of a sexual performer! Having sex regularly will make you more grumpy and more stressed out!

That doesn't make any fucking sense.

What? Nothing is permanent dude, but some of us realize that we have no time to waste, no time at all (and yet here I am on totse...can I will eternal recurrence yet post here? I shall).

I don't really understand what you said.

Er....right.

What are the dangers of prolactin? Is your fear based around it's decrease of testosterone?

Partly, partly. A decrease in testosterone also leads to a decrease in natural dopamine production. This is known as the vicious cycle of addiction. I wager if there were no built in suffering system (prolactin) people would be much less likely to get addicted. But that's neither here nor there...

My main gripe is that prolactin is deleterious to my overall goals, which require a super abundance of energy. Testosterone is the main source of energy, along with dopamine (in a sense). That is, they are your motivators. Prolactin is going to cause you to sit around and sigh.

Would other phenethylamines/amphetamines do the same thing?

Honestly you've got to look at it on a specific drug-to-drug basis, because the slightest change in the receptors (5-ht1 or 5-ht2) could make all the difference.

I know this is kinda drifting off topic, but while you're here, what is your opinion damages caused by acute use of of phenethylamine RCs?

Not really my forte and that's kind of a broad question to begin with so I'll just skip that.

I may posses certain genes that are prone to blood clotting based on something to do with testosterone and shit. Well unless you can tell me exactly how testosterone affects your disease it's going to be fairly impossible for me to give a half-way reasonable answer. But my guess is "no".

You've got to understand that Nature doesn't really care about individual beings, almost everything we do is for our precious genes. Once we've accomplished our vital mission of spreading our seed, nature has fairly little use for us. Also why orgasming during sex releases 400% more prolactin than jerkin' yrself.

It's not sex that will make you a worse performer, it's the orgasm. Big difference. Sex without orgasm is known as sexual magick, tantra, etc. Has a completely opposite effect. Kundalini rises up, instead of down.

? If I am having sex irregulary, I'm shitty at it, but if I'm having sex frequently, I'm much better.

What the fuck are you trying to say??

Obviously practice is going to have more effect on your sexual performance than some chemical I have never heard of called prolactin. Srsly.

I figured the only reason you'd stop is because of a permanent lowering of the want to fuck or something along those lines.

So as far as i can see, you think that prolactin is going to deter you from doing this, this and this.

Clearly you're not determined to get the most out of life. :)

Too much prolactin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperprolactinemia#Symptoms) is a major cause of erectile dysfunction.

Prolactin gets dumped into the blood in response to the surge of dopamine that’s triggered by orgasm. It takes two weeks for your body to correct a prolactin imbalance.

Seriously.

Alright, this is all good and all, but rest assured Rizzo:

If people stopped doing MDMA on a regular basis and did it once every two and a half months or so (or 4 times a year spaced out for those of you that are two spaced out to do math), there would be absolutely NO negative side effects whatsoever...except that anxiety disorder dissipating.

Prolactin can lead to erectile dysfunction (as I've read), so me having sex all the time could lead to my eventual penis' DOWNfall. That I could comprehend, but unless you're doing enough MDMA to fry your serotonin receptors then I'm sure the minute increase in prolactin isn't going to harm you.

That doesn't make sense. In men, resolution(I call it the cigarette and a cold shower phase) is a state of exhaustion.
MDMA is a stimulant.

Note: I didn't read the article, this is based on the title.

i laughed out loud.

i've learned a lot from this thread so far. after sex, i always get really antsy and hate just lying down. the girlfriend tends to want to discuss relationship issues and tell me she loves me etc. the first thing i want to do, is smoke a fat bowl and play some video games. i'm definitely a mean person after sex. is this prolactin in effect? someone also mentioned how after sex, more prolactin is released than after masturbation. confirmation?
