Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
I always get a little nervous in the back of my head when friends say things about drugs over the cell phone. I'll either say things very vague or throw away caution and say it bluntly.
Has there ever been arrests that happened due to talk through a cell phone?

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
This actually happened to a friend of not long ago.
Theres kind of a story behind it.
Me n my friend where at a rave dealing some pings, long story short he was a fucking idiot and got into a fight, cops were called, and he got arrested with a 20 bag on him.
Any way, like a week later me n him were picking up some more rolls, we called my guy up on his phone and planned a meeting spot.
We where waiting for this dude to drive up when we saw this sus lookin car with like 4 people in it, all staring at us, then my friend recognizes one of the people as the cop that arrested him, so we fucking freak, call this dude up and say don't come cause we are being watched.
Later on we open my friends phone and look at the SIM card which had scratches and some tiny chip burnt into it.
So i guess the cops took him for a dealer and tried to bust him again.
But you just sound like a paranoid little kid, if you have been arrested and all you shit was taken in a drug search then you have good reason to be, but otherwise no they are not listening into your convo's, just imagine how many people are talking on their phones at the same time, its just impossible.

Talking on the phone is never a good idea to begin with. But texts are even worse since the phone companies keep a record of all your text messages.

If you've got a bit of a reputation or you've been charged with possession with intent to sell, it's probably a good idea to keep an eye and an ear out. :)

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
I used to tweak about this kind of shit but now I've realized its fucking dumb.
No one is going to tap your phone if your some pathetic highschool drug dealer (90% of the "dealers" on BLTC).
Text messenges are FINE, but the problem that gets you fucked is when your PO, a cop or school officials read your text messenges.
I have a habit of erasing texts every hour or so.

Erasing your text messages doesn't make them unreadable if someone got a hold of your SIM card

I just don't care. Then again I'm not a dealer, usually that is. Currently I'm waiting on a shipment of HBWR to sell.
Big brother can watch you no matter what you're doing, it's just that they don't give a shit about you.

Never use texts, don't trust a shithead you're texting to delete the message. If they get caught and the cops go through their texts they'll find your #. It's fine if you're just texting someone to "meet you".
The only record made of a regular call is the time date and number, what you really say is your word against theirs.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
Haha, code is actually kind of fun, even if it is pointless. I had a friend a while ago who wouldn't talk in anything but it. A conversation might go like this...
"Hey, have you seen Oscar around?" "Nah, but I've been hanging out with Laury though. Swear she gained 10lbs. Don't you owe her $5?" "Nah, I owe her $50. Can you swing by my house? I did a rad new painting I want you to see."
or "Hey, I found tickets to the football game. It's in like, 40 minutes though. I spent $15 each on them!" "Oh shit, get like 5 more for my friends."
Yeah, we're idiots. Kind of easy to decipher, but if someone was listening it sounds fairly innocent. My friend was creative with words. He was one of the most interesting addicts I've met.

Just buy a throwaway tracfone. It isn't in anyones name, and you can just toss the POS if you need to. They are like 20 bucks. You can do anything with it, make bomb threats, plan presidential assassinations, whatever.

Virgin mobile rapes your fucking minutes.
I usually get fucked just by having a short call like "yeah im there now" maybe 7 seconds on the phone, it rounds to a minute and charges you.
Fuck all that.

Yeah, it's .18 cents per "minute" even if it's only a 5 second call. Plus you get charged to hear you're fucking voicemail.. I only have it because I hardly ever talk on the phone and it's basically just for emergencies. So I don't have to pay a lot of money for a cell phone with a plan.

Do you honestly think Cingular/AT&T will actually search thru all 50mil+ of their customers for drug dealers? They are making money by having dealers on their network, they do not care. Most people do not care about drugs enough to do something like that (Aside from LEO).
I doubt they even look for key words like "coke" "meth" "pick up" anyways.
It is not a big deal.
The only problem I have w/ texting is that the other person will not delete messenges, get busted and have it tracked to your number.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
For most of the people on totse (i'd even wager to say all, but there's probably a few exceptions) this is irrelevant. They only track major drug dealers, and for most of you "yeah lemme get a half ounce" or "yeah, i smoked heroin a few seconds ago" whose gonna care. I worry about txts because your parents can get a hold of the logs, and even if you don't live at home, cops could if they wanted to + they could see any you had/recieve while they have it.. yeah it's very hypothetical but i dont like having everything i say available on a printed list.. at least with the phone log they have to already be on to you to fuck your shit up.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
Druggies usually create their own slang for drugs in their closed social groups. Since I kept some hash in my battlefield 2 cover, I'd ask my friends if they wanted to come over and play some battlefield 2. Not that the cops have any reason to stalk me or anything, but after have gotten two warnings and an eigth confiscated once, and two grams confiscated the other time, its your second nature to do these things.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
I know someone who used to talk about weed like golf on the phone, but he was a stupid nigger and thought that if the cops hear him on the phone at all times of day talking to someone about "playing the whole 18 or only the back 9" they'll still know what he's talking about.
Honestly, if your phone is tapped, it's for a reason. They already know you are committing crimes, and they will most definitely notice your code coming up over and over again.

The phone companies wouldnt be going through that stuff but if you get caught by POs and they have your phone, they can have the phone company search their records for that phone, any texts it's made/received, when they were made/received, and the phones that you texted/received texts from. Im not sure if the phone companies keep records of the actual messages though.
On a different note, my friends and I use code all the time, not cause we're paranoid, but just for the fun of it. We say we're gonna go chill with the snake, or the foxey lady, or frosty (all names of pieces we have). Or for this one piece we have called the Loch Ness Monster we'll say something like ya i gave him a dolla the other day, think im gonna give him some more later. We would also say going to play Metal Gear Solid when my friend used to keep his weed in the game case or playing SOCOM whenever we get SOCO

This one dealer I know is a dumbfuck. Every time he re-ups he'll call me. He used to send me a text saying "hey i g0t g00d herb man hit me up" and I got that same text message like 7 times in 10 days. After a while I was like "quit sending me texts" but then he still sent a couple more. Or he'll leave me a message saying he got some. I'm just thinking dumbass if I want some I'll call you.

Wrong. My dad found out I was bisexual and selling acid and all he had to do was go online to the service providers site and look through my text messages.

Out of the millions and millions of customers these phone companies have, are they gonna really care about you? Not really. Unless you are moving things in bulk, or are a big time dealer, they don't give a fuck.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
AIM is completely safe, unless you're on a school network or something like that. ISPs don't give a shit about petty drug talk, because they have bigger things to worry about. And screennames can't be directly linked to people. It seems the only way they can arrest you for AIM talk is to talk to a police officer directly, give all of your personal info, confess to whatever crime you're committing, and meet with them.
Oh and I've been using a pretty clever code as of late. Thanks guys.

Re: Drug talk on cell phones and text messages
NSA gets basically everything. Also, all phone companies have a dedicated, unmonitored, full-access line going to one of the FBI's processing centers for CALEA compliance.
Basically what they can do is monitor EVERYTHING using supercomputers. People still think of a phone tap as someone actually listening to phone calls, but it's all done by computers looking for patterns. Local PD does not have access to this as it is still used for "terrorism," but it's just a matter of time.
All of the big fiber termination points that phone companies/ISPs use have splitters installed allowing the NSA to slurp down everything, this is only documented for AT&T, but it's obvious that others have them installed. The NSA does not have much going on currently in the way of supercomputers, so it seems like they are ironing out the kinks in their software before putting big hardware resources into it.
Personally I like the Pidgin OTR plugin, and encrypted skype for talking about stuff. It will not mask who you are talking to or how long/when you are talking to people but it helps.
