When you smoke it in a joint you have to constantly rotate the joint and spin it to keep it burning evenly, and the ashes are rock hard, so you have to damn near cut them off with scissors. They can be saved and smoked in a regular pipe for more cracky goodness.

I like it that way because I don't feel like a fiend hitting a metal stem and shit. I still get a decent crack buzz, and I can chill when I do it instead of hovering over a table like a freak.
