Trying Opium..
My friend has some opium to smoke, but since he doesn't have enough to sell, he said he'd let me smoke some with him. He likes it, but I've never done it.
I have some anxiety issues sometimes (well, weed for the last year had been giving me some anxiety until I got on an SSRI recently, celexa). I also have an occasional arrythmia. Would celexa, anxiety or any other issue interfere with it and cause problems due to sedation or aynthing? I don't know how powerful opium really is, so I come to Totse.
Any innate dangers known with opium? I've never responded poorly to sedatives (love XAnax, OCs, etc), just amphetmines (coke, etc). So I assume I'm safe, but I also assume i'ts pretty powerful and should treat it with care and respect.
Thoughts on it? Also, how is it? Fun?

Re: Trying Opium..
Opium is awesome. I've been growing poppies for a couple years and I love it.
The last thing in the world you'll experience with opium is anxiety.
Take it easy the first time or you'll be puking and spinning.

Do a couple points, you'll have a blast and be fine mate.
Enjoy! Remember it's only two steps from becoming heroin, so if you ever feel like you need more just switch to heroin.

they're supposed to be easy to grow.
seeds are legal, growing them to get high off of is illegal.

And they look like ordinary flowers, so that's pretty nice.

I just got started the winter before last. The seeds vary in quality....some people grow them from a can of fucking McCormicks spice jars, which I find pretty damn funny.
I get my seeds from the natural/bulk/hippy foods section at Fred Meyer....Kroger I think it's called in some states. Hell, any bulk poppy seeds will work if you make sure the content is right....they'll say Papaver Somniferum, P. Somniferum, or P. Somniferum L.
I've gotten near 100% germination with these seeds :)
The legalities are hazy.....technically, you can't grow them. But my mom's neighbor (in the next city over) has tons of them growing in the front yard for anybody to see....fuck it, they're flowers!
I got all fired up, set up an indoor grow area, got lights, all this shit, then realized they grow much better outside. I live in Oregon, so lots of rain here during spring, hot as fuck in the summer...moderate weather.
Literally just sprinkle them where you want them to grow (now's the time, spring-time), don't even bother covering them up w/ dirt. Water daily until they get about 1-2 inches tall, thin them out because they're gonna get BIG and need a bit of room.
Try to put them in a place where they'll get sun all day (east-west).
Fertilize when they reach 6" with regular Miracle Gro mixed properly.
You'll know your getting close when the poppy pods are egg sized. Wait until they flower (my GF loves them), the leaves drop, and then 10 days pass after the last leaf drops. Score very shallow at night (like the width of a piece of construction paper), and in the morning, use a razor or spoon to scrape up your goodies! Continue until the pod won't give any more. Cut your plant down, hang it upside down stem, pods, and all to dry for a few weeks and you can make pod tea later if you get into a pinch.
Hope that helps....it's pretty basic instructions, I guess.....There are guides online, but don't try too hard, you'll just get frustrated trying to Over-fertilize and get all fcking technical....let God's poppies grow naturally and they'll take care of you.
You can PM me if you have any other questions, bro.

I was wondering what brand would be the preferable ones to buy/ indicators that they are the right ones to grow then mellow out on. I've heard that poppies seeds are treated to not have the sedative chemical in them?

Re: Trying Opium..
I do know that McCormicks' (sp?) are legit, believe it or not.
I forgot to mention it above, but all poppy seeds for baking or that you buy at a store are P. Sominferum. All.
The problem is that some brands are lightly baked (!) at a low temperature before they are packaged for selling, rendering them useless for anything but baking, since they are destroyed by the heat and will never germinate.
There are 'low morphine' varieties, but ironically, they are the ones you have to special order or buy at a nursery......a couple names of low-o poppy strains are:
-Przemko
-Norman
Everything else is good to go as far as I know.
Happy growing.
Also, I know nothing about AUS, but aren't your hot and cold months opposite from the USA?.....you'll want to start your seeds when the days are 12 hours (or so) long, because poppies won't bloom outside until they get sustained 16 hours of light.
It takes about 3-4 months from seed to opium.

Cheers all,

treating process?
you just grow the plants, and when they're ready you cut small slits in the pods and opium slowly leaks out of the cuts and gathers on the pod. then you scrape off the opium and smoke it.
the plant does all the work bro.

on that subject, do you need those special poppys you see them growing on CNN in the middle-east, or can you use normal poppys, like the ones at the supermarket? Seems like a good thing to be able to make yourself.
EDIT: Will damn near any form of poppy have pods? I don't know dick about flowers.

Re: Trying Opium..
As tempting as it sounds, they can be very finicky to grow (certainly much more so than pot) and the proper procedure actually has you seeding them in the fall so that they lie in the ground throughout winter. Also remember that it takes a LOT of poppies to get a LITTLE opium. Think from 20+ poppies for a GRAM.

Re: Trying Opium..
95% of all opium I've seen is fake. If you dont get really fucked up off of like one hit its probably fake. Look at the shit. If its sticky and gooey and breaks apart strangely its just incense.

Re: Trying Opium..
The biggest danger with opium is being sure it is opium. A good 80% or so of the 'opuim' I've seen over the years was hash or [less] heroin.

I agree. Unless you grew the poppies or know who did. Its most likely not opium. Like I said before most of what I see is just incense. Ive never seen heroin sold as opium.

Fear and Loathing -
Here's the site that taught me:
http://www.poppies.org/faq/growing/
Don't forget to check out the gallery, there are pics of the whole process from seed to pod:
http://www.poppies.org/gallery/tutorials
JustAnotherAsshole -
You need P. Somniferum. Food poppy seeds are this. Don't buy the actual plant unless it says Papaver Somniferum, and it's unlikely you'll find one at the local nursery anyhow.
And if you do ever find them, don't get California Poppies, they are not psychoactive at all....
EDIT***
Also, on that site, please don't be discouraged if your poppies don't look the same as the pics there at the same 'week period'....I don't know what kind of crack they're feeding those poppies, but mine have never grown that fast.....they start out a bit slower, then they take the fuck off.
They will not look like that at week 1, period.

A pound of poppy seeds will net you about a fucking acre of poppies.
Seriously, they are not hard to grow, though.....I think what your refering to is the idea that some people let their plants (seedlings) winter over to make a stronger plant.
Basically, you plant in the late fall, let it get 1-2" tall, then the cold makes the seedling go dormant, only to spring (no pun intended) back with a head start when the weather warms up the next year.

how much space does each poppy require?
say you're working with a small garden, how many pods could you expect per square foot? and what would be the best method of planting them to maximize production?

Re: Trying Opium..
So can anyone identify what the hell this crystal yellow shit is sold to me as Opium? I can't find anything like it on Erowid. Looks like a crystal mineral, small pieces. Pics on page 2 or 1 of what i t"looks" like.
