Line editors

Anyone got a suggestion for a good one?
By good i mean similar to micro$ofts edit.com back in the day
vi may have its uses, but i honestly dread the idea of trying to edit a entire ircd conf file or something equally important with it.

Newlinfag here running centOS with only minimal openbsd experience needing to do shit reliably from console, no windows overlay things (gnome or whatever the proper term is)

Line editors are pretty much history. But I switch between Emacs and Vim for different things, the majority of time though I'm using Emacs.
