Default Intoxicated Driving?

I would have made a poll, but I can't.

What do you think about drunk driving? After 1 or 2 drinks? After you're smashed? What do you think about you doing it? About others?

And the same questions for being high (uppers, downers, opiates, etc.)...

I have always thought of drunk driving as the worst, until a couple days ago when I ended up taking a couple shots (read: 2) and driving home. I drive when Im on opiates (not nodding unless I can help it, only happened once) and weed. I don't do/haven't done many other drugs, so I cant really form an opinion on them.

Yea, Im drunk/high right now, otherwise I wouldn't have made this post. I think it's an interesting topic to talk about, and I'm not that drunk. I was driving 15 minutes ago though.

in my experiences, driving after a shot of opiates is the worst intoxicant to drive on. being drunk is no better, really, but at least you don't risk the nod off factor..

it depends on the person. some people can hold their high some can't. but just because you can hold your high doesn't mean shit. one wrong move and your fucked. thats doesn't mean crashing the car, all you need is an asshole piggie...

getting a DUI/DWI basically makes getting insurance fucking impossible, and good luck getting a halfway decent job..

I will NOT drive under the influence of anything anymore, except for meth and only in the first day. After being up for 24 hours or more I won't be driving.

I've learned my lesson after totaling my dad's car, then hitting a big rig with the car he replaced the other one with, and the many smaller hits and dents I've done because of my idiotic actions.

I believe some people when they say they can drive well stoned, because I know it is not that big of a deal. Unfortunately it just doesn't work that way for me. But even if you are one of those that can handle yourselves it still is a stupid thing to do. It is also just such an unnecessary risk to take. If something happens that would have happened anyway whether you were high or not, you'll end up taking it in the ass. Unless something comes up where you need to, or it's a short drive and/or at a time or area where there's not much traffic then you shouldn't be driving.

I personally am great driving on stimulants. But I still won't do it unless the same conditions I just said apply, but not as strict.

DRUNK driving IMO is just fucking stupid. The statistics are just too ridiculously against you to even attempt justifying doing it. Whether you think you're "good" at it or not, or if even other people have said you're good at it, or if you have a lot of experience doing it and have a limit and a whole system and shit you follow before doing it, I still think it is a fucking stupid thing to do and lose respect for people that do it. The fucked up thing about a lot of drunk driving related accidents is that the drunk person is the one that walks away fine but the people in the other car are the ones to get hurt or killed.

I agree. I think drunk driving is stupid. But I still do it. And I hate myself for being so hypocritical. I guess when it comes down to it I would rather get buzzed and take that risk than stay sober when all my friends are drunk.:(

I completely disagree with the idea of driving whilst intoxicated under the influence of ANY drug... What I really dont get is why people seem to think its safe to smoke and drive but still wont drink and drive. Sure one of the main factors is that your more likely to get caught for drink driving but that doesnt make it any safer.

You have to take into account its not just your life and property that you are risking but that of your passengers and anyone who may happen to be somewhere along your route and in the case of another car their passengers too... Thats a lot of responsibility, would you really want to be responsible for that many lives?

Regardless of what drug you take and how it effects you/you think it effects you... Your judgement IS impaired in one way or another and driving is extremely irresponsible (Even if it seems like great fun or a good idea at the time)

Besides, intoxicated biking is way too fun to pass up.

Driving drunk is really nothing short of retarded.

Driving high is really not that big a deal if you're the kind of person, like me, who does not find their driving impaired by cannabis.

Driving on stims is fucking awesome.

Driving on opiates is pretty hard, and like others said, you risk nodding off which would be REALLY BAD.

Driving on psychedelics is not advised, but it's still definitely easier than driving on drunk or on opiates.

Really, if you can avoid driving on anything it's probably a good idea, but everyone here has probably been in a situation one time or another where that just wasn't possible. If it comes down to it, definitely let a stoned person drive before a drunk one. The degrees to which these drugs impair your ability to drive are hugely different. I guess some people have trouble concentrating while driving stoned, but I'd say at least 80% of the people I know who smoke can drive equally well high.

Default Re: Intoxicated Driving?

Driving drunk is bad.

Year ago, paddys day, jameson, me in my 86' boat of a mercury deciding to go home, plus it was snowing pretty heavily....

Famous last words:

Friend: "Dude, you sure you don't want me to drive?"

Me: "Shut up asshole, I'm fine!" <Immediately Drifts and crashes into a snowbank, burying the car completely>

After failing to get the car out, the noise of our bullshit got the cops called and for some reason I like ran up on them?? Everyone else peaced but I like ran up to the cruiser I guess...... Anyhow they were reallly nice and brought me home although I was abusing them verbally the whole time....and my car didn't get towed and I got off....too close! If I was the cop(s) I would have hauled me right to lockup AND fucked me for the car one way or another (they knew it was mine, when they ran my info and the plates).

That was the one that put me off DUI.

Prior to that I had attempted to throw my 5000lb car around a 90 degree corner at speed, flew over the curb and into someones garden. Blew out my left front and drove the 1/2 mile home on the rim.... Woke up and saw my car sitting crooked and was just like !?! ?!..........oh.......yeah........fuck!

More horrible anecdotes involving either me or my buddy driving drunk:

-Throwing our empty bottles at pedestrians, cars, or anything as we drank while driving around.

-Burnouts/donuts on lawns.... made the local paper, what can I say, my mercury was my evil tool.

-Taking down smaller fences/pickets/poles, again my mercury just seemed like a battering ram stretching in front of me, ready to destroy! Unfortunately one lucky fence knocked off my front license plate (I immediately filed a fake police report that my plates were stolen) but the guy called me and I played dumb but he was just like listen buy me new posts (like 20$) and we'll forget about it so I was just like sure. Then I had to go back to the pig pen and tell them "someone left my plates back on my lawn" so I could use them again....heh.

-Hitting garbage cans on garbage day. This is pure evil. With my trusty battering ram I sprayed waste all over yards, roads, driveways and laughed maniacally as the garbages burst open, covering peoples shit...with their own shit!

-Egging people. Incredibly fun. When we ran out of money, we bought onions to throw instead as they are cheapest.

-Spraying people, this varied from re-routing the windshield sprayer to spray sideways to filling a super soaked with our drunken piss and super-piss-soaking anybody we passed.

-Hi-speed penny attack.... a random one that sticks in my mind, I just see the poor guy doubling over in pain when I think about it..... In the spirit of cheap projectiles (The worst was a can of jack mackerel tuna) I heaved a handful of pennies at this dude walking the median as we were going ~65+. Ouch.

Anyway, my license is suspended right now (I can get it back, just need a spare 100$ dammit!) and I have 14 insurance points in a two year span. Thusly no more DD for me. I need to lay low!

Afterthought: Though generally you shouldn't drive while intox on ANYTHING, weed doesn't really count unless you're a noob or get psychosis from it, Opiates have almost gotten me killed (me and others driving noddy), Benzos are essentially boozing without the smell as far as driving goes, coke is fine (I suppose stims are fine unless you're all jerked without sleep for days).... And I drove once on acid but it was unremarkable, except for the fear (N' loathing?) I felt when I high-beamed a cop at 3AM coming home with my drugs on me.

I got pulled over and blew a .08 once. I don't know if it is nationalized, but in NY anything over .08 is DWI. There's also a zero tolerance law for anyone under 21 (I was 17 at the time) that has any alcohol in their system. I passed all the sobriety tests and was pulled over for speeding. I didn't get a dwi, but I did got a speeding, failure to yield, and driving out of class ticket.

Driving while impaired by anything is a totally foolish thing to do. It can take but seconds to have your - and possible others - lives change forever.

I am so lucky I made it through my drunk driving phase. Because I used to do it on a very regular - and very drunk - basis. I only once hit another car - and that one my friend talk me out of any trouble with, and I was pulled over twice - once time I was so drunk I gave the cop my fishing license. I had been pulled over for doing 60 in a 35mph zone and for running the last three red lights. I thought I was still on the freeway]. When I did finally get busted - it was inevitable - I blew a .29. The only good thing was that the law was still .1, not the .08 of today. So I wasn't quiet 3 times the legal limit.

I drove drunk (not wasted) once and hated it, won't do that again. But driving after only one (or maybe two) beers is usually OK, the only reason I don't do it is because I don't want to get caught, I know I'd be perfectly safe.

I try not to drive within 2 or 3 hours of smoking weed, but I can if I have to. Weed doesn't affect my driving, if anything it makes me more careful because I'm worried about crashing.

At this party about a year ago the host got out his 400cc quad bike and set up a course in this field and we each took turns to see who could get the best time. In the evening when we were all drunk I was shit at it, but the next morning we were tokin joints like bitches then we had another go and I pwned everyone.

Never tried driving on any other substances and I don't intend to.

No charges / points of license.

I totally agree.

I actually find that I drive better when stoned, it seems that I pay more attention to what Im doing and preform manouvres better.

Studies have shown that for long time users, pot does not impairer reaction time or reflexes.

Pot also made me a better driver too. I used to drive very offensively and with a chip on my shoulder - I would get offended if someone wanted to pass me or something. But when I drive stoned, I just don't give a damn nearly as much. I just get in a middle lane, crank up the stereo and drive at the pace I want and not worry about what others around me are doing. Of course, real blatant acts of stupidity or crappy driving will still set me off. But the trigger level is much higher [no pun intended] than it was when I wasn't stoned. And now a days I don't even need to be stoned to drive mellow - though driving stoned still makes me even more mellow, my non-stoned driving is much closer to my stoned driving than it used to be.

One thing I suggest none of you ever try is driving on acid or mushrooms. Oh I haven't been dumb enough to try and drive whilst peaking, I have had 2 or times when I've been on the coming down side of things and had to drive [like after a Dead show....Naturally ;-)].

Driving at night is even worse. Because your mind tends to fill in what can't be seen a lot. And what happens is that almost every car looks like it has cop lights on the roof. But the bad part - the dangerous part - is that you just can't feel the traction of the tires on the road. It feels like you're driving on a frictionless surface and, man, that is not a fun way to drive.

I drive intoxicated frequently.

The most fucked up I have been when driving was after 2 40's of Old English, 7 shots of Vodka, one or two big swigs of tequila, and huge bong rips of some pretty good mids..

I did all of this in the period between 8 PM and 2 AM.. no doubt I was fucked up, staying in my lane was impossible..

I drove about 40 miles in this condition.. it was pretty scary..

The reason is, it was 3 AM, i wanted to go hang out with my cousin 25 miles south of Dallas.. i was about 10 miles NORTH of dallas at a party..

I was drunk so it was a "good idea"

When I say staying in the lanes was impossible, I was.. like about to pass out, and no matter what i did the wheel kept going shit-crazy.

I remember almost none of it except: trying to load a bowl, spilling it then throwing my piece out the window (annoying loss of 25$)
smoking a cig and almost crashing

pissing in a cup at a red light next to a cop cuz i had to piss..

ok but basically, i am not against driving fucked up, i drive high nearly every single day.. that is not usually hard. If I'm really-really high, I have to concentrate, 2 hands on the wheel, then I'm fine.. If I'm just feelin good, I just listen to my music, smoke a cig, and roll around..

Between last September and December, I probably drunk drove 3-4 times a week.

either i'd buy a big bottle of Mad Dog, a 40 of O.E or a 6 pack of something and drove around drinking it for 2 hours (for "work release")

On the days I didn't buy a 6 pack I was 100% fine, when I got a 6 pack I had such a good time I didn't really think i did any worse than usual on the driving but i probably did..
(really, let's be serious. there are tons of worse sober drivers than I am on six beers.)

i go to one of the more prestine west coast universities.

my professor told me about a study that was performed at the university a little over a year ago. the intent of the study was to determine how dangerous it is to drive under the influence of marijuana.

for the study they had drivers perform various tasks in a car and recorded their likelyhood of getting into an accident. then they compared that to a subject group of drivers who had gotten stoned before the tests.

the results were that smoking marijuana did not make the person any more likely to be involved in an accident. though the stoned driver's reaction time was slower, he would drive slower and therefore compensate for his diminished ability.

the research couldnt be published however, because many of the school's research is funded by government grants, and if they published the findings that could cause the government to cut some of the school's funding.

The infamous "beer car.." everyone knows someone with a beer car, you know with all the little minor dings, dents, scratched paint..

I have one, and everyone I know to be a lover of fun times has one too..

Honestly, Maybe I have done a few without realizing it.. no one noticed, and I looked at the car in front of me. Oh shit? Well maybe that was me.

The all time worst was a near hit and run at 7-11. As I tried to park, I hit an employees car, as all of the customers in the store watched. I didn't realize what I had done, I figured it was a curb so i went ahead further to go over this curb only to realize I was denting the fuck out of this shitty car. So i backed out to leave, then I saw these fools pointing and gasping. So I was about out when this jackass walks up like "hey! are you alright!" I say yeah. "Ya fucked up?" I say, no. it's been a long day. "well go in there, yeah come on she's waitin" Then these white guys outside are like yelling at me "YOU HIT HER CAR" "THAT GUY TRIED TO LEAVE!" I went in embarassed and scared with weed on me and alcohol in the car.. They already had called the cops and then they were like "nevermind" when I came back.. I was nervous as fuck, never gonna let that happen again.

Thanks.

Do you:
1. Drive drunk and high (specify which drug)?
2. Drive drunk but not high (specify which drug)?
3. Drive high (specify which drug) but not drunk?
4. Don't drive drunk/high but think it's okay for others to (specify which)?
5. Don't think either is okay?

I think driving drunk is way worse than driving high on weed, because alcohol decreases motor function but weed doesn't. I had a source but I lost it. It was a very long page with a green background. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I know atleast SN does. It also proved that weed+alcohol is better than just alcohol because with alcohol you feel like you can drive better than you can when you're sober, but when your high you overcompensate.

Buzz/barely high on opiates is pretty relaxing, and I don't feel like my driving is impaired. There are studies on pubmed that prove this but Im too fucked up right now to look (alcohol, hydrocodone, and weed). Can someone please reply to this asking me to find them so I remember in the morning?

Today I had my friend drive after I drank. He lives 3 houses down from me so I had to drive for less than 30 seconds.

Oh, and my state's BAC limit is .08. That's only if you're 21+ of course, which I am not. Zero-tolerance is .02.

Oh, and I try to overcompensate as much as I can for my driving when I'm intoxicated. I just stay right at the speed limit and drive very defensively.

As far as weed goes, the only time I don't smoke when I'm driving and have weed is when Im on my way home. I still live with my parents though (for only a few more months).

Oh, and I live on an island in Hawaii without any freeways. The biggest road is 4 lanes (2 on each side) and the fastest speed limit is 50 MPH I think.

This thread turned out to be pretty successful.

I usually do every weekend, sometimes I just go for a drive for the hell of it with no destination in mind. I usually go for benzos so they can't breathalyse.

I'm on two wheels and avoid the highway, so it's not like I can do much harm.

Edit: Don't drive on acid. I did it once on a bicycle and am surprised I didn't get hit. I mixed up what the stoplights meant and tried to look at others for direction, this was confounded by jaywalkers and people doing right turns on red so I really had no idea if I was supposed to cross or not. After a while I just kinda went through intersections and tried not to think about it.

Yeah, I had to pay some dude with a front loader a hundred bucks to lift my car off that cliff and rotate it. Lame.

driving a car on drugs is bad

riding a motorbike on drugs is fucking fun!
doesnt really matter how dangerous it is, the fun outweighs the possibility of dying.

I'd only ever drive on stims n weed.

n not a full dose.

very risky though, but fuck it.

Driving high is nothing for me at the least. I remember the day i got my license, i fish bowled my car with two blunts and it was a little tough to drive. It'll just make you make stupid mistakes if you're not used to driving. now i can pretty much drive regardless of how much i smoke, i personally feel it makes me a better drive. I notice more things when i'm high, such as the movement of the car, and anticipation of other drivers moves. But i can say if i plan on driving really fast/ really aggressive, then ill stay sober.

I don't really drink that much, but when i do i'll try not to have to drive. Here's a little tip for those driving drunk. Set your fingers up on top your steering wheel like you're making a goal post for Chinese foot ball. (for Americans) Keep your left finger on the yellow line, and the white line. That should atl east help you make it home safely. I wouldn't recommended it for long distance drives since you're not looking as far ahead of the road as you can.
