mental disorders + weed
ive got a friend, shes bipolar and got borderline personality disorder, generally shes ok but she does get very depressed at night. also though she has very mild schizophrenia, she mostly just sees things but knows they are fake but they do terrify her sometimes. generally though she seems pretty normal to me, she wants to try some weed, im thinking it might be ok with the bipolar and borderline but the schizophrenia (its mild) might worsen, or will she most likely be ok? What I was thinking was letting her take just a couple hits, and if everything is ok then do a little more im just worried about anything because permanently worse, the schizophrenia is not very bad in her, its mostly just the occasional visual or auditory hallucination, she has no thought or perception disorders really. Im not entirely sure, but im pretty damn sure that shes simply a paranoid schizophrenic which wikipedia describes as "where delusions and hallucinations are present but thought disorder, disorganized behavior, and affective flattening are absent"

Re: mental disorders + weed
I've heard weed can trigger schizophrenia, but I don't know about worsening it.
If you do decide to try it, make sure it's in a real 'happy' environment. Somewhere really familiar so the chances of a freak out/breakdown are less.

Re: mental disorders + weed
there is no such thing as 'mild' schizophrenia. you either have it or you don't. how old is she? shizophrenia usually appears around 17-18. as long as shes just bi-polar i say go for it, i cant realy see the harm.

this. Weed is a very weak hallucinagin (technically), and the chances of anything happening are extremely slim.
However, assuming that she has medications for her conditions (Abilify?), they might react with the weed. This can either potentiate or reduce the effects; it all depends on person and the drug they're on. I know someone on a mix of an SSRI (Zoloft) and Abilify and the effects of weed are potentiated greatly for them.
Oh, and they should never do a stronger psychadelic (mushrooms, LSD, RCs, mescaline, etc.).

Alright, thank you and the rest of you, and of course I wouldnt let her try any stronger hallucinogens. And yeah shes on a couple things, but shes also getting off, im not too sure what shes currently on but from what I know, its zoloft, geodon, abilify, depakote and 1 other but shes getting off all but the abilify I believe. Or something to that extent because they dont really help anymore.

Shes 16 right now, the schizophrenia is relatively new, she first started noticing hallucinations just a few months ago, she wasnt diagnosed with bipolar until around march of last year, she had a few panic attacks but since then things have seemed to calm down. Generally you probably wouldnt notice anything wrong with her except for random mood swings. She just started to want to smoke with me because she found out that I do, but I just wanna be cautious, id hate for something bad to happen but I think ill give it a go, starting out small of course.

Re: mental disorders + weed
people with mental disorders should NOT smoke weed or do any other drugs.
marijuana can exacerbate problems in people with mental disorders, especially if they are already taking medications. it depends on the med and the drug of course, but i wouldn't recommend this girl taking marijuana.
i had a friend a few years back that smoked some NICE purple dank from chicago, then she went nuts and tried to throw her friend in front of a car. she said she thought she was jesus and her friend was satan and she had to save everyone by killing satan. >_>
we didn't smoke with her anymore after that, lol.
i had another smoking buddy that had a schizophrenic breakdown, stole some dogs and went running around in the woods. he can't smoke anymore either.
hell, i don't smoke anymore either, that shit makes me paranoid as fuck now, even good weed. you'd think i was geeking the way i act when i smoke, lol.

Re: mental disorders + weed
I have bipolar disorder.
I know that marijuana intoxicated me heavily relative to other people. This is the only thing I notice and I priase my bipolar for having. I can make weed last so fucking long.

This. Better not fuck with her head even more, even thou its a 'soft' drug. The fact that sobriety causes her to get panic attacks and hallucinate only means that a mind altering substance will make it worse.

Re: mental disorders + weed
what do you mean she has hallucinations?
like she she's stuff when she's dozing off? or does she randomly see a shadow and think its an alien come to get her? or does she just see bunny rabbits everywhere? or what? i'm no doctor but there are all kinds of reasons for hallucinations.

Re: mental disorders + weed
Albeit a little off topic, I'm bi-polar and I'm on 100mg zoloft and 2mg of risperidone.... I smoke weed and have no problems, but I was wondering whether or not shrooms would interact with my meds. Much obliged if anyone can tell me.

Re: mental disorders + weed
okay well
for starters, anyone saying people with mental disorders not do drugzorz can just fuckoff.
Me- a SEVERE manic depressive, have regular panic attacks, and a VERY VERY high possibility of schizophrenia. why? well ive never been thoroughly tested for it, but from a brief visit with a councilor he already could tell various signs of schizophrenia, and asked if i had been previously diagnosed. mental visuals alongside with severe delusion and well i suppose you could say subconscious, uhm, influence? guidance?
anyway. back to the matter. of course, you dont want to get her stoned out of her mind, that WILL more than likely be biting off more than her mind can chew. give her a couple hits, see how she likes it, work her way up. just enough to calm her down thats all.
me, i find it really relaxes me, and gives me that little bit of control over my emotions, and rational that i barely have a grip on. not to mention my entire sense of reality actually holds structure high/or atleast afterwards.
give her a little, if she freaks out, well you can always skip to just giving her like 5 couchcookies and let her daze off watching CNN for the rest of the day. she aint going ANYWHERE.

Re: mental disorders + weed
i know of someone who may be slightly schitzophrenic but at least legally retarded. he suffers from speach problems, and the ease of symptoms from smoking pot outweights the paranoia. truth be told further proof that some people just don't understand why they can't just do it legally...
