Heroin withdrawals
I've been trying to quit cold turkey, for about a month now. The soreness and the headache don't bother me too much. but by the third day I can't sleep and continue to shit liquid for hours straight. I was wondering how long do withdrawals last? Also for how much I use is about 7 bags everyday or other day about .3 each. Any information/past experiences is useful, thanks a lot for your help.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
Probably 4 days or so according to wikipedia. You could always take some benzos/smoke some bud to ease withdrawal symptoms.
Good luck kicking that shit

Re: Heroin withdrawals
I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears bro. It doesn't matter how long they last. This addiction has ahold of you and you want to defeat it. That's all you need to know. I respect you for doing what you are. Seeing that this may not be the right thing for you, and trying to change it.
Rely on your friends and family. Rely on what you love to do (besides H :P) and fight through it.
Best of luck bro.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
i imagine loperamid would help the shitting, but thats addictive in itself as far as keeping you from shitting liquid... but i imagine it would be easier to taper yourself off of that than heroin...

I would never trust Wiki for something that matters or is important, Sheesh.
W/D lasts 4 to 7 days-ish.
Personally, I think people who quit cold turkey - unless they have no choice -are fools. There is totally no point at all in putting yourself through the pain of it. I've heard some say that without that pain they won't be able to stay off because they need to be able to remember how bad it is. That would make sense if it was true or it worked. But I know too many people who have said this going into their 5th or 6th time of quitting in 4 years.
No, I say if you're going to quit, do it by tapering yourself off; ween yourself off. There is very little discomfort involved in this. Granted, it does perhaps take a little more will power than just going cold turkey. But face it: if you ain't got the will power, you ain't going to stay away from it in the future either. I know this method works because it's how I quit. I quit only once and that was after 15 years of use. And I know for a fact I won't go back [but that has a lot more to do with the fact that I started using H for very different reasons than most - pain. And so now that I am on pain killers, I no longer have that reason for using H.
Yes, I know some might want to say that I just switched opiates, and perhaps that's true. But so what? I only take the prescribed amount - meaning I certainly ain't getting high off of them]. Plus I didn't just switch from one to the other. I had quit doing H almost a year before I got put on any pain killers.
So, dude, don't put yourself through unneeded hell.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
I quit doing H and pks back around christmas, almost 4 months sober. Talk to your doctor about suboxone it helps alot. I still wasnt completely normal for liek 30 days. After 7 days the worse of the withdrawals was over. Good Luck bro. you can look for a doctor at the suboxen website.

Did you get to choose suboxen over methadone? Or which one do you think works better? (questions go towards anyone who can answer them) Also yeah I think you are right Meta, cold turkey might not be the way to go. Thanks a lot for all your suggestions, and Jada of course I will cum on your vanilla dutch.:D

Re: Heroin withdrawals
Methadone works but it has a worse addiction and worse withdrawal than H. I mean I could go to a Methadoen clinic, but thats my last resort. Cuz really methadone is just getting peopel away from needles and the streets, it doesnt curve addiction. Im restarting my suboxone script tommorow, if your looking to still get high go with the methadone. But if you want to go addiction free, try the suboxone. It gets you high the first 1-3 times you do it, but after that you just feel normal, no cravings nothing.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
They never go away.Once you dance with lady heroin, your life will never be the same again.Your mind and body will never be the same again.Ive tried for almost 4 years now and all I can do is use milder opes.Hopefully I can get off this sub(i doubt it),but every1 just ends up switching one chem to the other.Good luck though,I think h is the hardest thing to kick by far.Fuck mental withdrawal,I can smoke rock for 4 days and just stop and not crave it.You do dope for a couple of days and stop your bodys gunna crave it more than your mind, and I think thats the worse. If you can get past physical, you should be able to do mental no problem.Every1's different though.Good luck, and I'm glad the person who turned me on to my first bag is dead.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
The unfortunate truth about Heroin is that, like another poster mentioned, it's with you forever. I will only go back to the Harrison Act in history, but from that time we (humanity in the West) have learned a great deal about Heroin/Opioid addiction. Cold turkey does not work. Sure, some people get off and stay off forever. The vast, overwhelming majority, do not. Rehabs and most hospitals (who either make you go cold turkey off Opioids with no meds or with symptomatic medication i.e. Quinine for leg cramps, Ibuprofen for aches and pain, Ativan/Klonopin/Valium/Librium for anxiety, Trazadone for insomnia, Compazine for upset stomach, Loperamide for diahrea, Clonidine etc etc etc) have almost a 100% failure rate in terms of lifelong abstinence from Opioids. There are physical changes to ones metabolism, brain and other parts/functioning of the body and mind as a result of Opioid addiction, many of which are not completely understood yet. Maintanence with Methadone, Buprenorphine, LAAM, Morphine, Dihydrocodeine/DHC118, Hydromorphone, Heroin, etc is the best approach. Any Opioid maintanence therapy is better than none. Tramadol maintanence would be more successful than cold turkey rehab.
Good luck if you can quit for good. But keep in mind what Bill Burroughs wrote in Junky, "No one can hit the skids faster or harder than a self cured junkie".
Meta, I had read a few articles that theorized iatogenic Opioid dependant people (i.e. people who become dependant and/or addicted to opioids due to medical treatment and/or a medical condition) do not have withdrawals and cravings as severe as those who are addicted and dependant. Using Heroin to kill legitimate physical pain as the primary driver in your use is a lot different psychologically than chasing that high. Also, people who were tapered and taken off Opioids for chronic pain report lifelong 'cravings' and pseudowithdrawal syndrome to a much lesser degree.

Re: Heroin withdrawals

I have warned him before too. I guess you just didn't see it.
Meta, I had read a few articles that theorized iatogenic Opioid dependant people (i.e. people who become dependant and/or addicted to opioids due to medical treatment and/or a medical condition) do not have withdrawals and cravings as severe as those who are addicted and dependant. Yeah, I have heard that before too. I think it may be because when you use for pain, the drug goes for the pain first; before it goes to towards a high. That's why I was able to use for years and hold down a great job. It wasn't very often that I took more than needed for my pain so I could get high - and probably why I have such a crazy tolerance to them.
I also read this report years ago that said that a not so small part of W/D is kinda in the head [that people get them so bad because they expect them to be bad]. They based it on studies of returning soldiers from Vietnam who were hooked to H. Even though they used a much higher purity than what was [then] available stateside, it was thought that the W/D would be worse. In fact, it turned out that for the most part they had a much easier time of getting off [not to say it was easy, just easier]. And the thinking is that it is like that because they weren't part of the drug culture, the typical junkies, and so didn't knowhow bad W/D 'should' be...
It still doesn't change what I said though, I don't think. I mean, I still believe that weaning is better than cold turkey.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
Here's how my dad quit that shit. As soon as he woke up he would just drink whiskey like a fish until he couldn't even walk. Therefore he couldn't walk to his dealer to get a bag. It can backfire pretty easy though. I'm more prone to want to do drugs when I'm drunk.... Probaly not the most responsible or most efficient way of doing it but it worked for my pops.

Re: Heroin withdrawals
I checked myself in to kick that shit. It was the worst 5 days of my life detoxing, anything light related made me want to rip my eyes out, on top of the worst nausea I have ever experienced. Then the doctors started with anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds for the rest of the time I was there. Honestly I think those meds fucked me up more than diesel (H) ever did. Good luck. but Tchort is 100% right, that shit never leaves you.
