Legalization of Marijuana
I'm doing a paper for my poly science class, and I would like many of you thoughts and feelings about the legalization of Marijuana... Pros/cons and the like... from what I know now, I'd say
Less money on the street... If it were legalized and commercialized. People wouldnt be getting money to dealers that would be tied to hard drugs or guns.
More taxes for the gov't tax of land that its grown on, tax on workers on the field, tax of machines used to process it, and a tax for the sale of the product itself...
I personally can't think of any cons...
Any help would be great
kthxbi
I have also made a clone thead in "Left Right Center"

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
Actually i've been wondering how close we are to legalization. I haven't heard of any major Bills that are trying to pass, i don't know of any congressmen who are trying to make a bill to legalize. I was just asking this because the other day i was trying to get my clean friend to smoke up with me and he was so convinced that they were going to legalize so soon that he could wait.

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
dude look in the archives.
on pro side
bring up the death facts
bring up the medical uses
bring up the effects
bring up how it is 100% natural
will provide more police to be fighting real crimes
et etc
on con side
whole gateway argument
its a drug
may make it more lenient on hard drug users
figure the rest out on your own

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
disprove this fuckin stupid theory, it pisses me off.
"Marijuana is more powerful today than it was in the 60s."
Even if that was true, thats a good thing. Just because marijuana was powerful, doesnt mean that people used to smoke less of it. they woulld just smoke more to get high. the fact that its more powerful means that people are smoking less weed, therefore consuming less tars and harmful chemicals.

alcohol is bad for you yet it is still legal
proven deaths ^
marijuana is not.
why is weed illegal?
because they dont know how to tax it.
if the government did know and werent so ignorant with all this anti pot smoking propaganda we could pull ourselves out of this economic slump.

If I had a choice of going to a dealer or going to a shop, I'd go to my dealer.

It would be so expensive if they legalized it you wouldn't be able to shake a stick at. Plus selling bud is my main way of income, that means me and millions of people will be out of a job. wow that sounded really stonerish

Fuck off.... you aren't looking at the big picture, the gov. doesn't care about anything but money... and more money is made from prohibition of cannabis than you would ever imagine.
Picture a weed dealer getting busted, they have $700.00 in their back pocket that gets found... where do you think this EASY money would go? either to the police station or back into the system somehow.
Why would the government sell/grow weed and get all the hassle from other countries concerning "terrorism" and whatnot, when they could just let us grow it, let us sell it, then come in and take all the money... it doesn't make sense for the gov. to grow/sell weed.

actually no you dumbass money is wasted on the prohibition of weed.
think about how much it costs to house one prisoner in jail
there not making money off of it you fool.
were spending millions upon millions to try and keep "drugs" off the streets.
its not like the gov is getting little bonuses for finding weed and drug money
they are required to turn it in.
however some of the corrupt ones may keep it but then the smart corrupts just get into the game themselves either as protection or just blackmail
honestly guy. you have the most retarded idea on why the government doesnt grow. terrorism? no. do we look at amsterdam as a terrorists country? nope. how about jamaica? (which has proposed making marijuana completely legal.) nah those are fucking tourist spots.
america would only gain from legalizing marijuana. from tourists to a national crop. they would get MILLIONS from taxing it. look at cigarette taxes! the government has nothing to lose they just need to see the medical uses of it and realize that it will never kill you. unlike the other largest crop.
of course you would still be required to have a lisence to grow/sell weed but to smoke it itd be the same as cigarettes. 18 and up
do some research before you try and stomp me in a subject concerning weed. i actually look up the drugs i do.
ignorant mother fuck

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
You look back to why CANNABIS became illegal anyway is stemmed from racism and ignorance.. the mexicans smoked it after long days in the field...
The only reason its illegal is from social constructs embedded from back in the day.. It's not like its illegal because it's a harmful or dangerous substance. Cannabis is one of the safest substances known to man.

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
Prohibition of marijuana has created a lot of government jobs. DEA, Prison staff, police force, FBI, etc. Get rid of the illegality and those jobs vanish. There are also many industries which would suffer if weed were legalized. Hemp would damage cotton and might even be realized as a renewable energy source. The smokeables would cut into the alcohol and cigarette business.
Companies have profited so much from making this plant illegal that it's in their best interest to keep it illegal. Sure, it would open up a whole new industry, but they don't want to change. Change is bad for those making money.
Over the dead bodies of those holding cash in their hands will marijuana become illegal. They'd rather see harmless potheads continue to be thrown in jail than money leave their hands.

Re: Legalization of Marijuana
True the jobs themselves wouldn't disappear overnight, but the number of people required to run those jobs would be reduced. Thousands of people let go. Those people know this and encourage the prohibition because of that. Marijuana is by far and away the most popular drug, with good reason. If "harder" drugs remained illegal such as cocaine, they won't suddenly step up and take marijuana's place. They'll stay just as popular as they are now, and require the same enforcement that they require now. Which isn't as much force as is required for marijuana.
Fabric industries, energy companies, alcohol and tobacco, entertainment business... all of these do better through the prohibition. Hemp is hands down one of the best fabrics. The plant is as versatile as corn, and can be turned into oil (and taking into consideration how fast marijuana grows, would make it an excellent green energy source). Alcohol and tobacco are, in my opinion, inferior recreational drugs to marijuana. If marijuana became legal, their sales would drop dramatically. People would smoke marijuana cigarettes instead of tobacco. People would have pot parties instead of keggers. Entertainment business, well, it's just my opinion, but marijuana tends to make people watch less TV. I can't prove that though.
"Over the dead bodies of those holding cash in their hands will marijuana become illegal."
Marijuana becoming legal? Over their dead bodies. Those people working anti-pot jobs, those billionaire companies profiting from its prohibition, they won't allow it to become legal. They'll send out lobbyists, give misinformation, hire bullshit scientists or anything they can to keep it from becoming legal. They're making too much money to allow it to become legal.

dude they wouldnt fire thousands of police "DEA" officers just because there is one less drug to bust people for. hows this sound "oh yeah uhhhh marijuana is legal now so you you and you are out of a job" i highly doubt that would even be legal. why fire thos people when they could put them on other jobs in the drug field?
as for hemp, it is a very durable piece of cloth but it also feels like fucking burlap. imagine wearing a big ass burlap sack around. doesnt sound too comfortable huh?
nothing against those who wear hemp, i mean i have a hemp bracelet my girl made me but that shit would feel terrible if i had to wear a full body suit of it
i agree with your fuel idea tho but the oil industries are stopping the hemp fuel. actually no the government is making too much money off oil prices so if we switched to hemp our economy would sink even faster.
hahahah pot parties? they already exist man. many people have tried weed and not liked it. i have a lot of friends who wont smoke weed because how it makes them feel, not because its illegal. you think people would say fuck drinking and just smoke? theres times when i just wanna get shitfaced and save the herb for work the next day. o and i smoke cigarettes because its a stress reliever. i smoke weed cause i get high. they both affect me differently so i couldnt see completely giving cigs up just because weed is legal. id still smoke em.
i think people watch more tv stoned. i usually never watch tv because commercials piss me off but wen im stoned ill sit down and watch it sometimes.
