Default Life-skipping?

I'm really not sure if this is the 'right' forum for this, or if perhaps.. it should be in headshrinkers.

Alot of people beleive in reincarnation, or that when you die you get a fresh new life as something else, somewhere else.
Of course, this all seems to be on the assumption that you're 'good' in this life, so in a way, the idea of a new life is dangled before a person as the proverbial carrot dangled infron of a tired donkey?

I've been real life dreaming alot really. Alot. By this I mean, I'll lie down and dream of a different life. I'm awake and concious, but I'm elsewhere in all but my body.

I was wondering, if a person truly beleived they could do it, and focused all their thought on that other life in their head as they died, would they somehow.. 'skip' into it?

Or would that of course, as it would be a form of Suicide, be something that would just send that person into 'hell' as that person may see it?
Or,as that person would not be killing themselves to end their life but simply to move into another one, would it not be classed as suicide?

Basically, if the life in your head is more fullfilling and happy than your 'real life' life could ever hope to be, would there be any way to access this other life permanently in a fashion that wouldnt anger any gods that may exists?

And is it possible at all to get to that life permanently?

And that life in my head, is it perhaps the workings of an over-active,scared mind, or is there a possibility at all, that somehow it's real..somewhere?

The life you imagine has no existance in reality and is dependent on the continued functioning of your mind. If you die, your imaginary life will die with you.

There is no possible way to know if there is any such thing as a soul, or if there is any form of consciousness after death, but from what we do know, there is no reason to believe that such is possible.

It's better to make the most of the life you have, than to throw it away or waste it wishing and hoping for something better after you're dead.

You cannot know a thing about what you expereince.

But I believe that the life you imagine exists an an alternate world line in a different part of reality. I believe that you will expereince it, as with all, but I do not know if you (as in the yoyobek) will ever consciously make that change.

And you cannot know that either. So just try and live this life whichever way you value most. Perhaps instead of desiring a completely different life, you can attempt to change this one for the better.

We have free will, and that is absolute.

Know this--the life "in your head" IS your "real life."

We are not in the world; the world is in us.

The last two sentences of both truckfixr and Obbe is the same advice I would have given.

Well, you could just "pretend" that your imaginary life is your real life. Try "going deeper" into this, experiencing it more fully. Sure, it might get to the point of borderline insanity, but if it makes you happy, who cares?

Some interesting and refreshingly non critical responses, thankyou.

It's not a case of being ungratefull. I appreciate *this* life, it's Nice.
But.. I know in this life I'll never truly experience being a seagull screaming over a shimmering ocean, I'll never really be a gorgeous woman strutting down a catwalk being admired and adored by all. I wont ever really experience being a mouse, cowering beneath some leaves on an icy cold night and being both thrilled and terrefied to hear the shriek of an owl.
A powerfull imagination goes a long way, but I'm still not really there.

Here's a way of thinking of it,
Say your existence is a MP3 player. The current song you're listening to is Nice, it's okay, you appreciated the song but you know there's far better ones ahead that you're very drawn to and you simply want to skip the next button and proceed onto that song?

I suppose this discussion is all based on whether you beleive in 're-incarnation' or not, perhaps.

Hinduish religions believe that whatever your consciousness is focused most on as you lead up to death, that effects how you'll be reborn.
IE: If you have a strong love for food you may be reborn as a pig. This is why a lot of their activities and rituals are focused on God, so when they die god is at the forefront of their mind.

Socrates said something similar in the "Phaedo" Perhaps for differing reasons though.

Reincarnation is a learning process. If you were to skip this life you'd end up repeating the same exact lessons. So I don't think its possible because it makes no sense.
