Mescaline.
I want to, and have wanted to for a few years, be able to do an at-home mescaline extraction.
I have seen it done in many many ways. But since I am pretty new to chemistry, I thought the invader zim mescaline videos would do best. (the half assed extraction filmed, resulting in a brown/black extract of mescaline and other PEA's and of course some plant material)
Now, I know that in the video, the 5 things the guy used that are 33%HCL, Xylene, Lye, water, and the cactus material.
I can get Muriatic acid (33%HCL) and will probably have no trouble getting lye, xylene and water.
Also, if I were to do this, it would be in my home with ventilation and the proper eye ware and other safety precautions... I just want to know if it is worth it? I have seen the video dozens of times, and yes, it is sloppy, but I am just looking to learn here, if I get some mescaline out of it... then that is a plus.
After watching the videos, does anyone know of a way to clean up this black mescaline?? I mean, I don't care about yield or anything, I would just like to show someone I know a bit of purish powdered mescaline just because they said I would NEVER do it.
Here are the videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfcEJ3B5o5o&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh5GDtM3X2s
If this is better suited for lab tips, then whatever move it, but lab tips is sloooow and I figured since this is more of a recipe than a full blown chem setup type of extraction, that BLTC could get some use out of it.

Re: Mescaline.
Read some more extractions. Videos may be convenient and look simple (and shit, they're just fun to watch), but ultimately you'll know more if you read around. Compare/contrast and figure something out for yourself.

Re: Mescaline.
I have read many many extractions on mescaline... BUT, this one seems like it can be done in my home... and semi safely.
I saw another pictorial on this and the guy was grinding fresh cacti through a garbage disposal with acidic water, he then added xylene and lye, and was pulling out bottles full of solvent, adding drops of acidic water and watching mescaline salts pour out of the solvent, he would then pour the solvent back into the mixing jug and evaporated what was in the small precipitation jars.
I really liked the pictorial, but it might be a little much for me as of now... though the guy did end up with half an ounce of purish brown sugar looking mescaline.

Re: Mescaline.
Then you should be fine. Bouncingbear sells san pedro, but some are skeptical as to their trustworthiness (with cactus, seems fine with other stuff). I think you should go for it.
B only sells fresh cuttings right??
They are a little expensive and I have heard the same bad things about their cacti... now... I live in CANADA and I know of that __________ site that sells both coca leaves in bulk AND san pedro powder in bulk... 900g for $89.00 which is suuuuch a decent price that I am almost willing to have it sent to my home (even with all the bad things I have heard about officials delivering packages)
Has anyone ordered from these guys, and if so, leave your story hear (or horror story if that is the case!)
Any other ideas?

Re: Mescaline.
Do not buy pre-powdered cactus. And I say this for several reason;
Firstly, powder material degrades/oxidizes quicker. So the material you will get may very well be weak if not practically bunk - which would also explain the outrageously low price tag.
Secondly and more importantly, supporting these type of vendors who sell cactus in this form is only supporting the illegalization of these particular cactus. So be smart and look at the bigger picture.
And thirdly, with pre-powdered material you have no way to accurately identify what it is your obtaining and instead have to have 100% trust in the vendor. I personally find that a bit risky, and would rather have to ability to see and identify what it is I’m obtaining with certainty especially if I plan to ingest it.
.peace.

Re: Mescaline.
Look into recrystallization for cleaning up the mesc and I think working out the amount of HCL needed for the extraction would be a good idea so you dont acidify too much.
Use glass or HDPE containers.

Re: Mescaline.
Anything I could have said has already been said except one thing.
Talking about extraction of mescaline and asking for sources for mescaline bearing plants is pretty much the same as asking for an RC source.
You ask for cactus to GROW, not to extract. Those two things must never be said together in such a manner as this here. You pretty much admitted to breaking the law.

Anyone remember when mothergeckobotanicals was still up? And the rule was not to talk about using his products in a manner not prescribed by the seller, ie human consumption/illegal use?
Yeah, same fucking concept here people. The rule wasn't just for that vendor, it's for ALL ethno vendors.

Wow taken straight from my mouth from something I said about you a few weeks ago. big surprise. YOU are the 'noob' who constantly spews bullshit and it seems like you're trying to copy a lot of the things i've been saying lately.. and it's fucking annoying.

Re: Mescaline.
I've always wanted to try mescaline. I think someday soon I shall probably do the peruvian torch method.
An extraction has also always intrigued me, but I think i would just as soon eat a bunch of cacti matter if it were at hand before I had the motivation to do an extraction.
Seriously Internet weed dude, you need to stop.

The DEA isn't 100% retarded. They know people do this, but by mentioning legit suppliers of a legal cactus in a thread about mescaline extraction, you're pushing it.
But OP you want a good extraction guide you should maybe familiarize yourself with WD

Re: Mescaline.
Sorry for posting those sources, I just didn't know I wasn't aloud and figured I was putting the hurt on me and only me... ignorant... sorry. I edited the sources.
But to be honest, I have been a lurker of WD for years now and from time to time stop in to see what is there, I have several PDF's that I got from there about mescaline extraction... it is easy... BUT, I have never done anything like this before.... when I was in high school I didn't want to learn anything because I was young and stoned... but now I have such an interest in chemistry, that I want to start somewhere. The farthest I have gone in home chemistry is marijuana extraction's and a few other small single solvent extractions.
Everyone needs somewhere to start, and I can't go back to high school at 20 and take chemistry, so I want to do something in the field of chemistry that also interests me in a different way... extracting drugs from plants.
Should I scrap those videos? I was thinking yesterday that if I were to actually want to do this, I would want to do it right and get a semi-pure product... no need to do all that work for no reason.
I have the money to get the shifty materials to pull this off (no real lab-ware) but I am sure I have the know how to pull off one of the extractions I saw on WD. Stupid Noob... I am looking to learn this basic chemistry that you were smart enough to learn... everyone has to learn.

Re: Mescaline.
If you want to learn, then go do it. I didn't learn it in high school either. I quit high school in the first quarter of my sophomore year. Everything I know and have learned is self taught, because I had the drive and passion to learn it. You are smart enough to do this, you just need to devote the time it takes to research. If you run into this type of thing (anything home chemistry related) without extensive research and a firm grasp of what's going on, you are doomed to fail.
Trying to rush through things is the number one no no in this type of thing.
Research until you are SURE you are ready, verifying everything, and then, once you are there, realize that you know exactly jack shit, and hit the books with that much more ferocity. Maybe then you might succeed.
You are doing fairly well compared to most starting out, so don't think I am flaming you, you have potential, but spoon feeding will get you NO WHERE. Someone telling you what to do is the same as a "recipe" which is exactly worthless. Unless you learn it yourself, learn how it works, why it works and all that then you won't know what to do when you do something like lye lock.
But if you learn the basics and study like a a motherfucker, then when you see that solid chunk in there, you will be like oh yeah, I remember reading about that, and it's simply solved by adding some more water, instead of posting on here or LT freaking the fuck out asking what do I do I have a solid layer and I'm too lazy to read so help me.
Again, not flaming you man, it's shit that needs to be said and I sometimes (usually) come off as a gruff asshole, but it's for your own good, and you will thank me when you can finally achieve something on your own, using your own knowledge, without having to ask anyone.
Not to mention all these posts asking how can i make droogz just draw more and more attention to you.
Real chemists don't really ask questions, because they already have the tools needed to figure it out themselves, reducing their exposure.
Real chemists know the risk involved and take every precaution to avoid said risk. Even making a simple post asking how is a risk, albeit however small.

Re: Mescaline.
Assuming of course that you intend to extract caffeine from tea...
Start reading up on:
acid base extraction theory
solubility of salts and freebases in polar and non polar solvents
solubility
polarity
Organic chemistry in general, just read everything and anything.
Start small - screwing up with 100g is a lot less costly, and I've found it more difficult when working with large quantities. Also the quantities of reagents you have to work with obviously goes down, thus saving your ass if you do something really stupid.
Make sure to recrystallize, and don't skimp on paying more for a better quality non polar... evaporating lighter fluid will not do!
For now, I would advise following a tek, one that looks comprehensive. Follow measurements, don't swap reagents unless you're absolutely sure, and write down everything you do! Try to label containers; guessing the difference between 15% NaOH and 33% HCl is not entertaining for you or your extraction.
These are just my thoughts, written down rather quickly, so take from them what you will. Good luck.

Labeling is key. I am usually diligent about this myself, but the other day my wife found a little medical injection bottle hidden in a coffee cup, filled with some unknown liquid, and I have no fucking clue what it is, when, or why I put it there.
She's like, why did you hide this? Fuck if I know man, it's not like I have to hide what I do from her, I have no idea why I hid it, what it is, or even how long ago I put it there. It can't be anything too bad, I am pretty sure it's not a solvent acid or base, and am thinking it MIGHT be fentanyl in solution, but the fent I had also had marcaine in it, and it doesn't taste like marcaine, so I have no clue what it is, and with all my shit in storage I don't have the proper tools to figure out what the fuck it is.

Re: Mescaline.
To be honest, when I saw more than 3 paragraphs from you, I smelled a flame, but I understand what you are saying... it is just... FUCK, I don't know where to start... I am to assume that you had SOMEONE to turn to that knew a fair amount about chemistry, someone that could point you in the right way... I never want to be spoon fed... it is a terrible example, but when I first started making hash oil, my materials were an old t-shirt, a bottle of 99%iso shake and a bowl... which works, but from doing it myself a few times, I have come to have my own technique or recipe if you will that makes oil that just about no one I know knows is made with iso.
Again, that was a bad example, but with that, I had come to learn myself, but needed someone to tell me how to start... which I don't expect anyone to do.
I do a lot of reading, a lot of internet reading anyhow, but I have no access to chemistry texts, at least, I don't think I do, because I don't know where to start.
SN, if you know of any online chemistry books that you think would be good for beginners, the link would be appreciated.
