Default network devices no longer active on boot

I am using fc8 and i recently added the Enlightenment repository and did a system update [i did not install enlightenment] there was a package in the repository that was installed, but i do not remember its name.

when i rebooted i ended up without network interface, i still have loopback, but i would like for eth0 to start on boot, seeing as i do not know how to start it on my own without the DE's.

I checked a few online sources, and i think it could be my /etc/sysconfig/network file

mine reads in total::

NETWORKING=YES
HOTNAME=localhost.localhost

::end file

i feel like this should have a referance to eth0 somewhere

if you need more information then i can supply it, thankyou

Your sysconfig/network seems fine.

Run system-config-network . You should be able to edit eth0 and set "Activate device when computer starts".

If that doesn't work, check /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0 and see if there's a line: "ONBOOT=yes" . If there isn't, try adding it. If it's "ONBOOT=no", try changing it to yes.

neat opens the same program as system-config-network, and it is set to activate a boot up. it still doesn't

I don't know redhat/fedora, so I'm taking a stab here, but on Debian every packaging change is logged. Can you just go through and see what happened, remove the repo if you don't need it, and reverse it?

I am not sure how to do this with fedora's yum environment

but i realized another related problem. When i use system-config-network the configuration GUI cannot change anything aside from activating the network devices right then and there. I tried to set my connection to static IP and i am not given the option to accept or apply any changes i make.

might there be a text file that i could edit instead?

Are you running this as root?

Is the network daemon set to start on boot?
