Default Meth isn't actually addictive.

I was discussing this shit, and we decide meth isn't actually addictive. Its just a government scam to keep attention away from drug markets they can control much more easier (cocaine/crack, opiates). What do you think?

Well for the weak willed, it certainly is mentally addictive.

But as I've said for years, mental addiction is not addiction really. Unless your body goes through miserable longings for it when you don't have it, it ain't an addictionAnd I'm not talking about the run down feeling you get when you run out of meth. That's just your body reacting to the way you've run down it's reserves. I'm talking about full blown physical reactions to the lack of a drug.

I Lol'd.

Well actually AFAIK with common methamphetamine use, the drug attacks your dopamine transports and fucks them up meaning that your neurons will be exchanging less dopamine or the pleasure neurotransmitter when you are not on methamphetamine. This leads to you having less dopamine than you should meaning you feel like ass unless you take methamphetamine. Oh heroin works in a similar way except with beta-endorphins i believe.

Meth takes about 5 days of extensive abuse to cause an addiction. You could do it twice a week without getting add.

You've either never tried it or are weak willed.
METH IS NOT FUCKING ADDICTIVE.
I've done meth three times, each time I HATED it and I haven't done it since that last time I posted it. When was that? a year or two ago and I have no cravings for it at all.
Don't even start saying "Oh you didn gt gud met", yes it was good meth and I smoked it with an asshole tweaker that I am no longer friends with due to his emotional rampages and mental instabilities over his ex girlfriend.

It's different than crack or anything else. Can be a pain to get used to for some.

Meth is very much addictive if you let it be, that is to say, it is on par with cocaine, if not a little less addictive than cocaine, since doses are spread further apart. But in that same thought, cocaine isn't that addictive, like pie said, it's all about will. Weak willed people will be addicted to SOMETHING no matter what, whether it be crack heroin meth sex booze chocolate, work, SOMETHING. Addictive personality is addictive personality, and that person will find something else to fill that void if it isn't meth.

A healthy intelligent adult can use meth responsibly and carefully with no negative repercussions.

Meth isn't addictive? An addiction doesn't count unless you get physical withdrawels from it?[meta]

Both of those are bollox, and one of the more respected people from here meta just explained his idea of addiction. The term addiction isn't something that can be subjective to your own views it has a definition, one of which you should probably look up.

Stupid noob said a healthy intelligent man could use meth with no negative consequences? Well an intelligent man WOULDNT use drugs, a HEALTHY man would not use drugs...

..someone that WOULD smoke meth couldn't BE considered an intelligent human regardless of his IQ or mental capacity. To put yourself at RISK of something like that happening would render you self destructive and inrresponsible..which aren't obvious traits of someone with any intelligence. Facts can be learnt by anyone; information can be recited by anyone.

As "i like pie" so definitively proclaimed...meth ISNT addictive, when SHE tried it...she HATED IT!! She did it another time....and she HATED IT!...so she did it again...

shes sooooooo bright.

Oh yeh...molosh, did you not consider that your "discussion" does not CONCLUDE. YOU don't DECIDE anything when its out of your hands....oh my god

Using meth does not have to be a risk, and there are ways to put back the nutrients your body uses up when under its influence using supplements, proper dosage and scheduling as well as proper sleep routine. Don't fucking tell me it can't be done, I've done it. You don't have to stay up for a week on the shit. It IS possible to use it, and put it down before it affects your health, using just enough to get the benefits you need from it.

Callum, to say that using meth is inherently stupid is just plain wrong. Using meth does NOT make you a piece of shit. As long as a person goes into it with a plan, proper education and research, and they STICK to that proper plan of dosage, and supplements, sleep, food, and everything else in the RIGHT way, it is RESPONSIBLE use.

Don't even come in here with that high and mighty bullshit attitude. I've done it. I've been there. Have you? Or did you do it and get all crazy whacked out? Or have you NEVER done it? Because if you HAVEN'T done the research, and you haven't lived the life and used in a responsible manner, then you have NO fucking room to say SHIT about anything regarding this subject, anything you say is on par with www.abovetheinfluence.com (http://www.abovetheinfluence.com).

Don't be a faggot. Use common sense, and look at things objectively instead of just falling back on what school, your parents, church, TV and every other form over brainwashing you've been exposed to. Look at the FACTS before you go off on a tirade condemning responsible users just because some people happen to be trailer trash.

News flash dipshit, if it wasn't meth it would be something else. It's not meth that makes you a piece of shit, it just seems pieces of shit gravitate towards it, but that does NOT mean that all meth users are pieces of shit. Same can be said for ANY drug, or really anything.

What about sex? Some people destroy their lives, as well as many others with sexual addiction. Do you have sex? You dirty disease ridden sinful piece of shit you. You need to be locked up in a small cage and fed through a hole for twenty years to teach you a lesson for trying to release pleasure inducing chemicals in your own brain. We need to bar you from any government assistance including education grants, bar you from voting, owning a gun, and put you at a disadvantage to get a decent job, because you are subhuman. Someone close this thread. I thought noone could possibly be this stupid. First of all OP is a troll. Second of all, and to those of who actually believe such a stupid statement as "meth isn't addictive". Are serious? Do you even know what addiction is? I'm not even talking about mental addiction, whatever, fuck that bullshit. I'm talking about real physical addiction. Physical addiction is caused when you take a drug at regular enough intervals to be affect your bodies attempt to maintain homeostasis. In the case of meth you have norepinephrine, dopamine, and seratonin. When you use meth on a regular basis, your brain stops naturally producing these chemicals. Why? Because they're already in your fucking brain from the meth. So guess what that means? Now you have to keep taking meth to maintain that chemical balance in your brain. Oh my goodness children! Guess what that is called?! It's called addiction because now you physically need the drug just for your brain to be normal.

That is all.

Have you ever nudged a bit over the limit? People that eat anything with a lot of cholesterol aren't intelligent human beings because heart attacks are the number one cause of deaths in the US. If you drive a car at all, you aren't an intelligent human being because of emissions. By your rationale, you are a fucking moron.

^good point - to an extent, obviously. What i was saying was of course an over statement/generalisation. But my original argument was basically saying "recreational use of meth is generally a bad idea, and most people recognise this."

Stupidnoob: Yeh i didn't read all of what you wrote so i can't really comment, i saw someone post "so much win" or something, so i'll assume that you proved me wrong. So i'll agree with you. Meth is healthy for you, and is not addictive...im so dumb.

To ilikepie: You missed the point of what i was saying again, well done. Maybe it was all the meth you had, so I won't hold it against you.

If your brain stopped producing these chemicals you would die faster than you can say fuck. So it's safe to say you have no idea what you're talking about and should probably shut the fuck up to avoid creating more dipshit morons like yourself.

Just because your brain stops producing a chemical doesn't mean that it completely disappears from your system. Even a normal brain is not constantly cranking out these chemicals. It normally only produces them when the levels in your system are low, or under a lot of other conditions. You're right, technically your brain doesn't completely stop production of these chemicals, but their production slows to a crawl. A better example would be opiates, when you become addicted to opiates your body's production of endorphines becomes very low, so if you don't supplement these levels with opiates, you begin feeling the effects of withdrawal from low endorphine levels, among other things. I'm not saying that if you use meth a lot your brain just completely lacks these chemicals. Normally I would say you're a dickhead for that response, but I wasn't being very clear so maybe I deserved it.

Some people that are not badass at all could unleash all hell around you, your neighbors even your entire TOWN if they wanted to do so.

To someone prone to addiction in general, lots of things can be addictive, and that includes meth. Addiction doesn't have to be physical, that's kinda bullshit.... pffft, an opinion, and a pretty dodgy one at that. Are addicted gamblers going into physical withdrawal if they don't gamble..? Probably not.... but they're still addicted.

The number of people who ARE hooked on meth would indicate it IS addictive. The rest is kinda semantics, and willpower is not some quantified numerical scale which all people fit onto....

Meth ISNT addictive. As with many other like drugs, with methamphetamine, its a question of WILL. In my opinion, unless the drug causes physical, painful withdrawal symptoms, its not really addictive. Otherwise, how would you be able to tell the difference between just really wanting to smoke some shard, or actually being addicted? For me, its kind of the same as cigarettes. Opiates, on the other hand, cause awful, sickening, painful withdrawals. In that case, the user isnt abusing the drug out of want or boredom, but because its too painful not to use. Theres no stronger motivator than a big, bad hurt.

I respect your opinion, I really do. And I've went through opiate withdrawal, certainly not as bad as yours, but I did go through it. While it was certainly miserable, and terrible, it wasn't that bad, because I got it into my head that this was just like having a sickness, and it'd be over in a few weeks. Meth addiction is certainly for the weak willed and compulsive, but the inability to feel pleasure or find anything interesting for months and months afterward was a lot worse in my opinion.

Any drug that makes you feel golden, not matter what it is, is going to be something hard to give up if you're weak willed. Honestly the hardest thing for me to quit so far has been chewing tobacco. I used to use 2 cans a day, in fact one of my nicknames was "Two-can Sam."

But I really don't believe that bullshit that addiction is a disease. I think it's all in your mind, and if you can't beat your addiction, you just don't want it bad enough or for the right reasons.

Edit: I've never been a IV user of anything, so for the opiate addicts about to flame me, my withdrawal probably wasn't as bad as yours! But it certainly was fucking terrible.

Lets look at the two paths.. [and don't get me wrong i'm not saying if THIS happens, then THIS happens. It's obviously not that simple.]..

Drugs: You start off, using occasionally...it's not a problem. You use more, and still consider it not a problem. You spend more and more money but it's still not a huge problem. You run out of money. You need money and need means of getting money fast....how? Simple...by selling drugs? ....IE CRIME.

School: Go uni get semi decently paid job, you may not be happy by any means. But your life is sustainable.

Dont have time or patience to wade through pages of the same babble on this subject - especially seeing as Meta' piped up with the truth on page 1.

There is phsyiological addiction - that is REAL addiction, such as heroin. {Incidentally recent tests have shown that some alcoholics have an intense physiological addiction and their mitochondria cells are different and crave alcohol - but I digress}.

Then there is psychological addiction - such as say, coke, or meth. Where Joe Bloggs does some substance, likes the effect, likes the way he feels and decides to do some more.
His body doesn't crave it - he doesn't need it to function (unless it is self induced, sort of psychosomatic); rather he just likes it and wants it.
Knowledge and will-power and he can use (note USE, not abuse) the drug and be fine.

However, if Joe Bloggs is in a bit of a shitty state in life, and bad self esteem, mental issues, personal problems - ofcourse they will use the drug as an escape mechanism and right royally fuck up their life.

And to all the people that spouted shit about the scabby skin and bad teeth - those fucked up trailer park folks could well have been like that with or without meth ffs. Most of the problems often (wrongly) associated with meth come from a) impurities in badly reduced product b) idiots that over-indulged and then forgot basic rules like washing, sleeping and eating.

Depends what exactly one terms withdrawl.....

way back in the mists of time the longest my friend BT ever used on a bit of a bender was 9 days straight - after which he felt a little rough, and slept a bit more than usual. No big deal.
No cravings, no cramps, no inability to fucntion.

Not much difference between that and a horrendous hangover - proportionately.

People need to understand the substance they use, and their own bodies reaction to it (every one will react in their own way). Sensible moderation is the key.

It's called "down regulation". Your neurons are flooded with dopamine and norepinephrine when on meth, your body reduces the amount of active receptors to get back to a balance on how much DA and NE it gets. When you stop taking, you are getting less than usual, because the "flooding" stops, so it takes a while for your brain to regulate back up to the amount of receptors needed to regain that balance. This lack of neurotransmitters is what leads to the slow feeling after getting off it.

As for addiction, there ARE physical symptoms, but it's closer to the neuron level, whereas H has more measurable WDs on the physical level.

Default Re: Meth isn't actually addictive.

yea basically, alot of shit is just about your will and your definition of addiction

but basically, i break it into two affictions.

one) mental---HAVING to take the drug because something is missing inside you and something you take just helps fill the hole and you just feel that much better, usually depressed people and people who are just bored with life, ALOT of drugs fit into this category

TWO) physical addiction, this is where your body literally NEEDS the said drug in order to function without problems that ARENT mental but actual severe bodily disorders. opiates and other such things fit into here

basically, alot of mental addictions EVENTUALLY turn into physical, but thats merely because of serotonin and other "happy" type hormones/other that make you feel better. you stop using it, suddenly its THAT MUCH harder to feel happy because your bodies used to the amount that its given because of the drugs you partake in.

meth, well, it does cause alot of physical problems, like the "meth mouth" thing, it will cause some problems, but like someone said, this is avoided with proper care, that many people already lack.

well, i'd continue this discussion further, but im far too drunk to actually type credibly.
