Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
I was just wonderring how long a person can do moderate doses of oxy before physical dependence starts to rear its ugly head. Say a person with no history does 20 mg a day. How long would it be before withdrawal symptoms might appear? Are we talking days, weeks?

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
well your tolerance will go up before withdrawal sets in. Id say if you kept upping your dose to get high you would notice some symptoms after a week and a half-2 weeks

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
I'm being serious, why are you even doing oxy.
It wont help you at all, unless its being prescribed, and even if you are, just posting on this forum guarantees you abuse it somehow. And the people here will just get you more addicted.

I appreciate your concern, but I dont look to the internet for permission to do things. Also, I never said I was taking it, I'm just looking for information.

I asked you a question.
Don't addicted to meds, don't even think about doing it daily.
Peoples help here will cause more problems, rather than solving them.

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
Burroughs outlined user-end information in Junky. To paraphrase, all users talk about observing simple rules to not get a habit, but they themselves do not adhere to these simple rules. Like using every other or every three days, not raising dose, taking frequent breaks from using, etc. No opioid addict decided to become an addict. They were using recreationally and one day suffer withdrawal symptoms.
Tolerance does not always set in. My first heroin shooting habit started with shooting half a $10 bag in the morning and half a $10 bag in the evening for a few weeks. I did not raise my dose until after dependance set in.
If you don't use everyday, take frequent breaks from using, do not frequently raise dose, etc. In other words don't become a habitual user of opioids. If you can't do this you will get a habit, you will become addicted and dependant and have withdrawal syndrome.
This has all been known for 8000 years since the poppy was first called the joy plant.

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
Guys, let me set the record straight. I am an OLD hat with drug use. I am not a kid. I have alot of formal study in neuroscience under my belt. I also happen to work in Mental Health. I dont need to be told how valid the info on totse is, and I'm also not trying to rationalize an addiction. I've done oxy once in my life (although yes, I would do it again).
I dont need a lecture, or any other information than what I asked for. I just would like some personal anecdotes on the issue of how long it takes before withdrawal develops.

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
I know. I was hoping to get a general idea. For example, is it possible, after say 3 or 4 days? That is to say not, theoretically, but generally.
I currently am hooked on ativan (have been for years for a legit reason) Its the only thing other than smoking i've ever had a daily addiction too (although I'm on a very small daily dose). Thatm in hind sight, took quite a while to develop (several weeks if not months). I can only assume oxy would be more addictive because of the euphoria it produce. But I would still like to have a general understanding of the time frame.

If you are an 'old hat' with drug use you should already know the answer to your question. There is no one answer. People develop habituation, tolerance, dependance and withdrawal syndrome at different rates. If someone tells you 'You will become dependant after X number of days using X mg of Oxycodone per day and X symptoms will appear if you stop using' they are full of shit and expecting an answer like that is ridiculous. If addiction was an exact science there wouldn't be addicts.

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
man what is it with people just not wanting to be helpful at all? I'm not saying I know it all, but at least try every now and then.
and to attempt to answer the question, I would say that you'll start to notice physical dependence in about 2 weeks, give or take. However, mental dependence could kick in as early as the first time you use. But that applies to anything really, if you really enjoy something you're gonna wanna do it again. I would advise getting a set amount of pills and once they're gone, don't get any for at least a few weeks. This will also slow down your tolerance development significantly, saving you money.
just try to keep in mind what will happen if you become addicted if you're wanting to get more pills, even though it's only been a couple days since you ran out of your last bit.

Thank you. See how this response is actually what I asked for. Was that too difficult? This forum is like 90% pretention, and often just pure stupidity (not forgetting the many decent posters that are here). Everybody is so eager to one up each other that half of you cant even have decent discussion. Drop the drug egos, dont assume other people are beneath you, and fucking learn to read. Cheers to those who tried to provide the answer I asked for.

I've made a rule with myself that I'll only do opiates twice a week at the most. Even then, I'm really careful with them.

Re: Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms.
Wow I was really disappointed by all the faggoty replies here to what is actually a valid question.
It took me about 3-4 weeks of daily use at around 40-80mg to develop noticeable withdrawals. This is at the high(er) end though, from literature. At 20mg doses, I would expect it would likely take at least 2-3 weeks of daily use, and you would notice some tolerance buildup for sure. But hell, since everybody IS different, it could happen in as little as 1 week, though not likely.
Do yourself a favor though, and never find out!
