Since shrooms are so damn hard to find around here, I want to grow my own. Where should I go for grow kits? Are the ones on Ebay any good?

Many stores near you sell glass jars, pressure cookers, plastic bins, aquarium heaters, everything needed for the substrate and anything else you think could contribute to a good set-up.

Those guys aren't as good as some of the others. I got my first syringe there about 3 years ago, so they're definitely legit, but IMO spores101 is better and ralphsters is the best.

And go to shroomery.org. That's a great place for growers. It's like the place to go. If you have any specific questions, you can hit me up there under Pooter.

I recommend the MMGG for your first grow. Read that guide and RRs video(on youtube) and you will be set.

What strand do you guys recommend for a beginner?

It doesn't really matter. As long as it is a P. Cubensis, and is a pretty commonly known strain. My first was B+, but you could also do Equador, Texas, F+, Burma, whatever, they're all basically the same. Just try to stay away from the newer substrains and hybrids for your first grow. Penis Envy, while extremely cool(in a weird way), are not a good starting strain as they don't like to drop their spores.

Instead of asking us which strain to get, why not look around and pick out a few that you think look cool, and then post back and we'll tell you if they're good.

Id grow from scratch if I were you. Do a "bulk" grow with horse poo/straw, just stay far away from the PF-tek. Get all your info from www.shroomery.org buy supplies from www.mycopath.com and get your spores from www.ralphstersspores.com . I recommend the texas strain personally.

Lol I wouldn't attempt a bulk grow my first time. Do pf tek and get to know the basics of casing and the mushroom life cycle before you jump into something that requires more sterility.

PF tek is definitely the easiest method.

For higher yields, try casing.

Also, don't forget to dunk your cakes after each flush.

I also ordered my spores from spores101 and they're great, you can see the spores in the syringe just like the website promises.


The one and only thing you REALLY have to remember, is to keep EVERYTHING clean.

Which, is ironic because "more sterility" actually means adding Horse Shit.


@OP, If you don't want to do the PF-Tek b/c it doesn't give high yields, you are terribly wrong. Many experienced growers follow the PF tek up until the fruiting cycle, then spawn to bulk trays or even tubs. Why don't you make 12 cakes, birth 10 of them and spawn/case the other two.

In my opinion, the PF-tek is only useful as a source for spawn. It is absolutely terrible for fruiting, it really is. Yes, some people have luck with it, but in any case, H poo will vastly outperform BRF.

If anyone wants to take mushroom growing seriously, they shouldnt be wasting their time using inferior methods.

edit: Bulk grows dont really require more sterility, they just require more steps, which results in more room for error. Besides, The healthy mycelium you get from h-poo is much more resistant to contams than the anorexic, starving mycelium you get from BRF.

I have a couple questions, does growing shrooms smell at all? and also im going to order a syringe of the Mazatapec. I need a syringe not a print to start growin it rite?

The actual growing does not smell very much, unless you have contams. But fan drying your mushrooms does smell a little. And just to clear any confusion, pasteurized/composted horse manure does not smell at all.

A syringe would be the easiest to use. You could get a print and make a syringe, and you could also just use a section of the print if you have a glovebox, but overall, I'd go with the syringe.
