$200 and the cost of textbooks? Fuck that shit. You could learn a shit load more at zero cost from studying forums and talking to growers. Waste of money if you ask me, but it's still baller an educational institution is providing this service to their students. Guran-fucking-teed though this shit wouldn't fly in most public and private colleges.

So far, 60 students have completed the two-day weekend course, which is sold out through May.

I've been thinking of going to Olds college and taking production horticulture or something.

I've had an interest in growing things for a long time anyways, in high school my best grades were in horticulture.

This is neato and all...

...but in my experience, taking classes and reading textbooks doesn't help all that much when growing things.

Growing good pot, or growing good anything for that matter, comes from experience, not studying daily out of some textbook. You can learn about all the different hormones a plant produces and how it's growth and flowering phases, etc. But like with most things, it's putting it into practice that's the hard part.

Paying $200 and reading a textbook won't make you a green thumb.

It might be a shithole, but this is one more reason why i'm glad to call Oakland home. I don't even smoke weed, but I think growing classes aren't such a bad idea. I live near "Oaksterdam", and there are any number of places a person with a valid "medical marijuana card" can buy decent, but expensive, weed in broad daylight without fear of the OPD. With the sheer amounts of weed being cultivated in the city "legally" - and I use that term loosely - there should be courses available to teach the skills needed to supply the dispenseries.
