Lamotrigine prescribing information has a black box warning about life threatening skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.[3] The manufacturer states that nearly all cases appear in the first 2 to 8 weeks of therapy and if medication is suddenly stopped then resumed at the normal dosage. Patients should seek medical attention for any unexpected skin rash as its presence is an indication of a possible serious or even deadly side effect of the drug. Not all rashes that occur while taking lamotrigine progress to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

Get to the emergency room or call your doctor asap. No joke, you might end up dying because of the rash.

There are two potentially deadly rashes that can be caused by Lamictal -- Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.

Stop taking the drug immediately and talk with your doctor. If it's only been there a short while (a couple hours or less), they'll probably tell you to just take Benadryl. If it's been longer, expect to make a hospital visit.

I talked w/ my doc & he told me to stop taking it. He said if it persists after a few days, to seek a dermatologist.

Took 34mgs of methadone and that's helping with the pain, but makes me itchy like hell! Uber-itchy, but I feel niiiice.

Have you been by chance drinking? Alcohol and high doses cause rashes too. I've heard some really good things about Lamictal. All of the other drugs simply don't work according to this article in the guardian.

Did you gradually increase your dose over weeks? It takes about three weeks to taper up to full dosage. Alcohol causes rashes with higher doses and an un-ramped start.

If other SSRI's haven't helped, this one is a good one. If the rash goes away, try again slowly.

Too bad that makes no sense, as Lamictal isn't even *close* to being an SSRI....

Hint: it's an anti-seizure drug, not an anti-depressant. It's also used for mood stabilization in bipolar disorder, specifically to prevent mania -- and antidepressants tend to cause mania in the same patients. Lamictal has minor effects on the depressive phase of bipolar disorder, and on clinical major depression, but not enough to be regularly prescribed for it.
