Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Default Mushroom strain identification possible?

Okay my friend is getting some shrooms soon and I hear potency varies somewhat, so if I snapped a pic would you guys be able to identify the strain?

No I am just wondering if strain identification is that simple. Or if I would need all that spore printing stuff done.

Strain doesn't mean as much as it seems you think. It could be guessed though. Are you thinking of species? You most likely have P. Cubensis (you probably knew that).

Yeah the P cubes I know are the most common, but I have been hearing mixed things about the importance of strains.

Like something on Shroomery.org said that taking the same amount of a different strain can be the thing that changes a level 3 trip to a level 5. And I am not ready for a level 5. This is my first time.

So just eat less. I don't think identifying the strain would be very easy if they're dried out.

Spore printing is done for identifying species, not strain. Not to mention it wouldn't be useful or psilocybes, it usually will tell you the genus.
