Top Ten Rules You Live By...
Be serious... Don't Bash religion... At the end of the day we are all human, be nice and tell us 10 rules / values you live by. For example I live by the rules and virtues of:
1. Be true to myself -- Never sacrifice my true identity for one that has superficial or no value.
2. Know what I really Want -- Not what I think I should want because, people tell me.
3. Remember Who I am -- Never define myself as one particular thing but remember I have potential to be anything.
4. Remember to make Time for Myself -- Do the things resonate from within, that make me truly at peacefulness and happiness.
5. Remember Where I come from -- Both spiritually and where I grew up.
6. Honor All Life; Defend Your Own When Necessary -- Awareness of Life and its underlying importance.
7. Honor Human Sexuality and Cultivate True Love -- Respect others ways of self-expression and never label anyone.
8. Honor the true purpose of material Possessions -- Possession is a Means to an End; They are not an End itself, because of that one should be willingly to give as much as receive.
9. Honor What You Say -- Eliminate negative speech for your life (Gossip, Lies, Cussing, etc) and Use your speech for truth and positivity.
10. Be Grateful for What You Have In Your Life -- Do not desire possessions just because someone has it. Dictate what states of mind mean to you and do not let others dictate it for you.
Now, after you are done telling us your Top 10. Whether you choose to answer the following question publicly or personally ask yourself: "Do I Follow my own rules or am I influenced by others values around me? Or Do I follow my own rules?"

Re: Top Ten Rules You Live By...
The Satanic commandments. I found that I was following these before I even read them for the first time. Pretty straight-forward.
1. Do not give opinion or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
8. Do not harm little children.
9. Do not kill non-human animals unless attacked or for your food.
10. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Wow, I was expecting this to be something really stupid, but damn! Pretty good shit I follow alot of that shit..ironically...
This is actually alot harder to write down then I thought. I am very hypocritical even tho I hate hypocrits..
Basically:
Jesus is my God and has saved me, I owe everything to him.
Love is very important, it is the most tangible form of connecting to God.
Drugs are extreamly important, but never let drugs do harm to anothers life. This means drugs can harm myself all I want it to, but I can not let my use harm another.
Be my own person and don't let others influence me unless I respect them and what they have to say is true.

Re: Top Ten Rules You Live By...
I boiled down most of my own BS (Belief System) into a few lines rhat could fit on a business card:
Accept everything.
Judge nothing.
Bless everyone.
We are All One.
But I also like Chopra's suggestions:
Know your intentions.
Set your intentions high.
See yourself in the light.
See everyone else in the light.
Reinforce your intentions every day.
Learn to forgive yourself.
Learn to let go.
Revere what is holy.
Allow God to take over.
Embrace the unknown.

Religious or not, I think setting rules to live by is pointless.
If I had even one rule it would be "live however the fuck you want".

Manifesting spiritual growth is tremendously difficult for several reason. For one thing, the government, the media, and most businesses are fighting against it. They desire for you to be needy and fearful--whhch is why I spend so much time trying to empower people and help them transcend fear.
Plus, the illusion of separation is very seductive. It is so easy, for instance, to tend to look down on other people--even though feeling uperior to others is the cheapest wa on earth to feel good. When one evolves, one realizes that although we are all different, at the highest level we are all one, that no one is bettere or worse than anyone else. We just have different agendas.
As far as the "rule" thing, I am not crazy about the word--I'd say "guideline" would be more appropriate. But repetition is 99 percent of spiritual growth.
Finally, your phrase is very much like that of AC--"do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."

Okay, fair enough. If that is where you are right now, so be it. But regardless of whether or not you believe in spiritual growth, it happens--it is not only necessary, but also inevitable. We are all on the road to sainthood.
A hunger and thirst for knowledge is laudatory--I often say that the more you know and the less you believe, the better off you are.
But I promise you this--as you mature, the day will come when you realize that knowledge is no substitute for wisdom.

ArmsMerchant, what do you mean by spirituality?
Is it feeling a unity or strong belonging with your surroundings, or an open appreciation for experiences in life?
I really have no idea what spirituality is meant to describe.

By the look of the smiley face you put, you should be confused. What do you mean better off in life? After you have every material thing what else is there to have? Money buys pleasure, it does not buy happiness. After you get so high off of pleasure the pendulum must swing back toward pain. True knowledge is supported by personal experience my friend. Spirituality does not ask you to believe, it asks you to know for yourself. For example I used to not believe in astral projection, but after seeing it for myself and experiencing it I can not deny its existence.

Money can buy happiness. Depends upon how poor you are. If you already have all of your needs met at the bottom of this pyramid....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:M...y_of_needs.svg
then money will not make you any happier....if not then it will.
I still don't believe in astral projection, don't believe you have experienced it, and think you completely full of shit. If not visit me in my dreams and say something so off the wall I will remember. Do I need to give you a special dream code so you can find me...or do I not understand your astral fantasy correctly?

Frankly, I don't care if you don't believe me. I know what is true. I have seen it with my eyes. You should try and open your mind and get rid of the arrogance. If I actually knew who you were I would try and visit you.
Why do you seem to be so angry about me having been able to astral project? If you actually try to and have faith maybe you will get past your ignorance and actually see the truth. There are many actual directions in order to succeed. It's quite a pity to see how materialistic and dull you are my friend. Wake up, or at least show some respect to other people's beliefs.

I don't really know.. everything is all too confusing for me to make any sort of rules.
I guess what Aleister Crowley said "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" but ArmsMerchant beat me to it.
I interpret it in a deterministic manner. everyone does what they do as the result of causality - an intricate number of causal factors.

continue to empower and transcend fear but make sure the empowerment is true empowerment, The secret for example is an empowering documentary when you listen to it however, its the false sense of empowerment. Have some distinction between the two -- TRUE V. FALSE Empowerment
You know there was some physicist I believe who said that two parallel lines do meet in infinity now imagine each person a parallel line and follow it out into the distance they all meet in infinity. We all are one and the same at the source but the further away you get from it the more different seems to be.
Actually those ten commandments I gave earlier are a gnostic meditation upon the 10 Commandments Yahweh gave to the people of Israel. Mine is simple three things:
1. Love Thy Neighbor (Enemy or not)
2. Love God with all mind, body and spirit
3. Don't do anything if its going to seem more like an obligation to get done. Don't deceive myself (into thinking I need to do something out of a perceived obligation).

It has been said already, but the basic principle of treating others in the way you would like to be treated is a good thing to practice.
I am not Jewish, but I think their rendition of the golden rule is the best. To paraphrase slightly: Whatever you find to be hateful in others--don't do that to other people.
It doesn't require a lot of study or debate to decide which things it applies to. You can always figure it out for yourself.
That one rule has served me well.

1. Be a warrior
That means to stop the internal dialog as much as possible, do what the spirit calls for, stop indulging in the idea of a self, walk for miles a day, etc etc. there is nothing specific per se, it's more of an attitude that one develops to be able to survive the onslaught of the unknown.

Why? Give one reason for the necessity of spiritual "growth".
Its another aspect of life, with all its mystery and potential, that we have the option to come to terms with and embrace or not. One would say that we can attain inner peace, strength, fortitude, virtue, compassion, love, wisdom, understanding, and reach many great dimensions of life, expanding our own life in the process, through spiritual fulfillment and understanding.

Nobody is able to live by any set of rules all the time.
You can follow closey to these rules, but you will break them. In the end you will live and do whatever you like. The only rule you can count on from nearly everyone, is that they will do what is ultimately in their best interest. There are no rules that will unify humanity, there is no right answer in creating the rules people will sometimes follow.
I love those who post....."These are the awesome rules I live by..." and one of the rules has to do with not letting the ego control them.

Well...yeah...but remember what you just said, no one can abide by their "rules" entirely. Of course their are logical guidelines that could guide all humanity, the question remains in the fact that people have the option of following it or not.

Re: Top Ten Rules You Live By...
These aren't rules, but this list does define the way I live my life.
I am resolute in my convictions.
I am always where I want to be or I am trying to get there.
I try to avoid hypocrisy in my beliefs and actions.
I try to do unto others as I'd have them do unto me.
I try to be earnest.
I live without regret.
I learn from my mistakes.
I think before I act and thereby act with reason at my side.
I always remember that I'm no better than my word.
I always remember the difference between want and need, and I know that if something falls in the "want" category, I can do without it.
I always remember that attitude is 80 percent.

1.) Treat others as you want to be treated.. unless they have treated you otherwise.
2.) Niggas be grimy.
3.) Bitches be crazy.
Too lazy, I don't live by any rules honestly, well.. I guess I do but I make them up as I go. They are pretty Christian-influenced I must say though.
