Technically true, but for practical purposes that statement can be regarded as essentially false. It's not as if solar, wind or wave energy is going to 'run out' in the next 100 million years.

More likely the human race will die/destroy itself before the Sun burns out.

I was referring to mainly wood which is classed as a renewable source but could be all but exhausted in a relatively short time period. Unlike solar which is going to take a long long time to 'run out'. Each renewable source is different so no point in generalising them.

Our supplies of softwoods are pretty good, it's just hardwoods from places like the rainforest that are lacking. They take longer and are less practical to grow, so nobody is interested in farming them.

The supply of wood is inexhaustable as long as the resource is managed correctly.

Perhaps if the government of China gave every citizen a hard plastic pair of chopsticks and threatened torture if caught using wooden ones afterwards.

Plastic chop sticks are bad though because it is hard to grip your food. Chinese people should just be forced to carry around the same pair of chop sticks since these is so many of them then they could start a new industry for designes and expensive chop sticks.

I know what he said sounded kinda on the ignorant side, and I use chop sticks myself, but let us be honest:

Forks/spoons are rediculously more efficient.

I mean, come on.

Are you fucking kidding me? Sporks get at least a 25/10 for practicality. It's a fucking spoon and fork all in one! You tell me that is equal to the practicality of a single spoon or fork alone? Hell no!

I agree. While chopsticks may use a lot of wood, plastic probably damages the environment more so.

To solve both problems, get your own pair of reusable chopsticks.

Both wrong. It tried to do too many things and fails at both. It can't hold liquid and the prongs aren't long enough.

Also it's hard for some foods to just stab them or try to balance them on a fork with a fork, so chop sticks win there when you could just grab them and not get your hands (or your food) dirty.

Chopsticks rule.

I like them because i eat way too fast with spoon or fork, plus chopstics demand more skill and finesse.

As for spork, I think it is the gayest eating utensil invented so far.

I'd rather use my own two hands, then eat with that piece of crap.

I thought it was bad manners in most Asian countries to stab most food with chopsticks.

I think he means that when it's hard to stab something with a fork, it's usually easier to use (grab with) chopsticks instead.

I had an idea of a set of chopsticks made of a few pieces of metal. Basically you would have two pieces that are machined in the shape of a pen, and then exactly half of it is machined off on both pieces. These two pieces can be put together to make a whole.

Part of it can be threaded so you can screw on a notched barrel in order to secure the two halves together and make it look like a pen, and so you dont stab yourself.

The notch is of course to lay the barrel on the table to hold up the chopsticks when not in use, as is customary.

I actually have a set of steel chopsticks that my brother's wife's parents got for me as a gift from Korea. They're really cool that have a little gold dragon inlaid toward the top of each one of them.

In China alone, an estimated 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks are used and thrown away annually.[8] This adds up to 1.7 million cubic metres[9] of timber or 25 million fully grown trees every year.[10]

45 billion pairs of chopsticks annually!?!?!? That's one pair every 14 days, or a single chopstick every week for every man, woman and child in China.

This clearly is unsustainable and has to stop. We must not allow the development of a culture where food utensils are thrown away after use. Clearly Chopsticks and China are both EVIL.

Unnecessary. Slave of the Beast is correct, as long as the renewal system is managed properly, trees are essentially inexhaustable resources. Also, as technology advances, you could genetically engineer trees which require less and less flat costs to grow, making it not only renewable but profitable for society in the long run.
