Marajuana Smoking and Healthy Living
To clarify, I am a noob when it comes to pot. Can smoking marajuana can be detrimental to one's health? If someone is smoking 100% organic weed, does it still have negative effects on a person's lungs? I certainly enjoy smoking it but don't want to develop lung cancer later in life. I looked through some of the archives on this site and didn't find anything on the effect smoking marajuana has on a person's lungs. Also, are there any other problems I might not be thinking of? It sounds like it's the perfect drug otherwise.

Smoking anything will cause free radicals(bad), so yeah, smoking everyday is going to sooner or later lead to cancer. Vapeing or eating your weed will solve this problem.

Vaporizing it sounds like the way to go. Is that a huge waste of weed? I heard eating it is a waste.

This whole thread is full of acolytes and new arrivals who are fucking clueless.
Smoking ONLY weed, you will not get lung cancer at any higher rate than those who do not smoke weed.
Smoking cigs, you will get motherfucking lung cancer.
The reason you won't get cancer from weed is because THC actually stops/stunts the growth of rapidly-multiplying cells, thus killing any potential cancer. Whereas nicotine speeds it up.
However both do hurt your lungs like with tar and shit, if you cannot get ahold of a vape or do not want to eat it, using a homemade bong is awesome. Just be creative with that shit, mine works fucking great.

So I just googled this and like the first results said THC promotes growth of new cells...sooo
What does marijuana do to cell growth... ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE WOULD BE DIVINE.

Re: Marajuana Smoking and Healthy Living
I can say from yeras of smoking, that the only way you're gonna notice some serious effects to your health is if you smoke weed like someone smokes cigarettes (like 20 joints a day, wouldn't that be nice?). But to be realistic, it seems that putting anything but clean air in your lungs is harmful for your health, but fuck it, right?
There are always new discoveries with it's cancer preventing properties, so honestly, i really wouldn't be worried about it. And in my opinion, marijuana is best when smoked. I'm sure eating it and vaping it gets you super high, but there is nothing better than rolling a fat joint/blunt, or packing up a huge bowl/bong and hittin it all night.

Very true... I only smoke weed, and I cough up some weird yellow to brown to sometimes almost black shit.
My advice is to get a bong with a bubbler on it.
http://gorillaglass.com/images/fumed%20g%20on%20g%20ashcatcher.jpg
It fits as a glass-on-glass seal inside of a matching down-stem for your bong. This gives it double filtration, AND you never have to worry about cleaning up your ashes ever again.
It gives you double filtration, and keeps your bong water cleaner for longer.
Anything you can do to filter the smoke will have you benefitting from cleaner lungs.

You can make a vape out of a lightbulb and even though it seems ghetto it works pretty damn good. Search that.

Getting the munchies and eating junk food and shit is obviously gonna negatively impact your health, and I find myself at a severe lack of motivation to go to the gym when I'm high...so that's some negative impacts right there.

Re: Marajuana Smoking and Healthy Living
As far as cancer, it isn't much of a risk smoking weed. In fact, as more research comes out, it shows THC as having anti-cancer properties. However, you'll still build up tar and shit if you smoke. So if that bothers you, vape.

I remember something about the three biggest studies ever conducted in Jamaica, Italy I think ... and I forget the other one, on people who had been smoking pot heavily for most of their lives found that they were in fine health.
Fucking a whore is far riskier.

They call those ash catchers so the ash doesn't get stuck in the bong. My buddy has one on his bong and it has a "percolator" which gives him triple filtration. Thing hits smooth and for 200$ it better.

Re: Marajuana Smoking and Healthy Living

He may not be, but I doubt you knew whether he was or not before you made that statement. Even if he was very educated in that field of study, it doesn't mean whatever he would know would apply to everyone who is reading this ... there may be someone out there who would react very badly to smoking pot.
But, based on everything available to him and us over the internet, he seems to be correct. There seems to be no reason to believe smoking pot will give you cancer. Try doing what he suggested, and provide some sources if you have reason to think otherwise.
The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.
^From here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html).
Heres some NORML (http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6891)studies.
One of the biggest reasons cannabis smoke does not seem to contribute to lung cancer like tobacco smoke does, is because cannabis smoke does not contain polonium 210 and lead 210, among other reasons as well. More on that can be found here (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_health2.shtml). And more information on how cannabis impacts ones health can be found here (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_health.shtml) and here (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_medical_info2.shtml).

Fair enough, the shop I bought mine from didn't have a tag on it... just a big red "$30.00" sticker on it.
The only bad thing about it that I see so far is that it is a bit harder to hit than with just a straight stem and bowl... but anything that keeps me from hocking up ball after ball of lungbutter.

If you disagree with that, would you care to share your reason for believing so?

No, I won't, because I'm not arguing one side either way. My point was that this guy:
NOONE HAS EVER GOTTEN CANCER STRICTLY FROM SMOKING MARIJUANA
is talking out of his ass. There may be studies that support the idea that MJ isn't carcinogenic, okay, but to state as fact that nobody in the history of the world has ever gotten cancer from smoking pot is fucking stupid.

To state anything as fact is foolish in my opinion, but we do so when we see reason to believe so. Maybe he saw a reason to believe that, too.
Maybe he read this:
1) Most marijuana smokers smoke the bud, not the leaf, of the plant. The bud contains only 33% as much tar as tobacco.
2) Marijuana smokers do not smoke anywhere near as much as tobacco smokers, due to the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
3) Not one case of lung cancer has ever been successfully linked to marijuana use.
4) Cannabis, unlike tobacco, does not cause any narrowing of the small air passageways in the lungs.
Source (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_health2.shtml)
Or some other source that said something similar, about there never being a recorded case of lung cancer linked to cannabis smoking is the history or recording such things. Maybe he read something like this, or read it many many times in different places, and has decided that its true.
And I think that its just as illogical to assume he has no reason to believe something that you just might not be aware of, as it is for him to assume he cannot be proven wrong.

Re: Marajuana Smoking and Healthy Living
anything you smoke will fuck up your lungs, I heard vaporizers work, and eating definatley does but it is a hella waste.
Now I dont give a flying monkey fuck what anyone says but after i started smoking I did temporarily lose focus and slight short term memory loss. I got it back after a couple weeks (no i was not a daily smoker). The way I got passed it was exactly this..
smoke a roach, studied about 100 vocabs words, and the next day have them memorized. that solved the memory problem even though for the next two days I thought my brain was full, atleast it felt that way.

Sorry to bump this thread, but been reading that while pot and lung cancer are not a concern, studies are showing that smoking pot and gum disease are related.
