If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
then why is it such a curse to know the joy of opiates? I would assume that whichever chemical releases the most dopamine would be the most pleasurable, but that doesn't seem to be the case.... Well, wtf M I Rite?

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
Fuck meth. Opium is the shit. To partially answer your question: Opium is a "downer".

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
Opiates simulate natural endorphins and bind to the potential active sites for them.

what is an endorphin exactly. i know it's something that makes you feel good when released in your brain but would dopamine be an endorphin? or are endorphins something different.

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,

Endorphins are endogenous opioid polypeptide compounds. They are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during strenuous exercise [1], excitement, and orgasm[2]; and they resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a sense of well-being. Endorphins work as "natural pain killers", whose effects may be enhanced by other medications.
The term "endorphin" implies a pharmacological activity (analogous to the activity of the corticosteroid category of biochemicals) as opposed to a specific chemical formulation. It consists of two parts: endo- and -orphin; these are short forms of the words endogenous and morphine, intended to mean "a morphine-like substance originating from within the body." [1]
The term endorphin rush has been adopted in popular speech to refer to feelings of exhilaration brought on by pain, danger, or other forms of stress,[2] supposedly due to the influence of endorphins. However, this term does not occur in the medical literature.

so is that why it's good to get lots of exercise? would exercising more give me a natural feeling like i've taken opiates just not as intense? cause if so i'll start exercising more.

Ever heard of a runners high? It's no where near opiate-like, but nonetheless it still feels good, imo.

This has been debunked.
Wiki says the "high" associated with strenuous exercise is due to the sense of accomplishment, not a release of endorphins. :)

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
Wikipedia has already been quoted in this thread, retard. It clearly says that dopamine is released during strenuous exercise. Like running.

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
You people are fucking STUPID!
If any of you actually got off your fat asses for once and tried excersizing, then yes you would know there is a such thing as the "runners high."
And opiates/oids DO release dopamine. Just not nearly as much as meth.
God.

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
If I exercise intensely I get a euphoric feeling in my lower stomach and groin area, not too unlike an opiate. It is quite strong too, one of the better body highs I have experienced.

And what does accomplishment have to do with the brain.... Reward fucking centers. Do a good thing, release dopamine and serotonin.

Damn, I'm surprised you've never seen this before. Click on the 'Heroin' mouse. I'm pretty sure everything in here is true.
Edit: In other words, Pooter and FuckedintheHead are more or less correct.

Re: If methamphetamine releases so much dopamine,
The runners high is cause by a release of anandamine, which is the bodies natural cannabinoid.
Different drugs bind to different receptors. Stimulants generally bind to dopamine receptors, downers to gaba receptors, narcotics to opiate receptors, THC to cannabinoid receptors, etc.

I wonder how anandamine is produced.
Or if its at all possible to extract phenylethylamine from chocolate.

I saw it back when i was a little stoner and uh... forgot.
Anyway's, that answer's your question.
Different modes of action, correct me if i'm wrong but i figure:
Meth substitutes for dopamine.. while opiatoids are like a giant dick in a virgin vag, just rippin it all up in there an changing shit around, or something to that effect.
Eh, i dunno. :)

Find sources outside of wikipedia. They're vastly superior, even if more difficult to read.

the reason people cut themselves it to take this further. it releases massive amount of endorphins
