I'm Looking for Insight
I find myself at a turning point in my life and I'm confused about the future and how things are going to pan out. I'm on a gap year at the moment - unemployed. The problem is I've allowed myself to slip into drudgery, you could say I'm living in complete freedom from all obligation and rules. I don't have to do ANYTHING. And as nice as this sounds, it's not, because at the same time it also stops you from being able to do anything. I'm wasting my life.
I need to re-assess everything, take a good look at my life and more than anything get a good kick up the arse. Will mushrooms do this?

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
WILL they? No they will not do anything.
Now, potentially they could HELP YOU reassess you life for sure and definitely have for some people. They may also take the opposite effect and make you rationalize your current situation, and then you wont want to change.
And its not just mushrooms, its any psychedelic really. They will bring out what YOU deep down really think and erase prior perceptions and your ego and help you discover certain things you would not other wise.
Id say take 'em for better or worse.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
Drugs wont make you do anything.
Try spending a few days alone in the woods with little food.
That will do wonders. Mushrooms will just make you laugh a lot.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
If you're brave enough, try a sigma plateau DXM trip.
This will also do wonders.
Not DURING the trip, of course, but the morning after, you should just chill outside with some sunflower seeds, and you'll find yourself having some very intense insight to your life and how to solve your problems.
Taking 6 bottles of robogels (1800mgs) should help you reach sigma without a problem, if you do 600, then an hour and half later, take 600 more, then an hour and a half later take the other 600.

Mushrooms seem like the right choice. Not only is it great to trip with no obligations to anything but you'll learn a lot about yourself.

I mean I guess so, if you want them to.
get a good kick up the arse.
Ya, that's what you need. ;)
Drugs have their place and all, but you don't need a shroom trip to figure out calculus or use E to deal w/ your gf breaking up with you.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
A gap year from what? Who is paying for your housing?
If you're with your parents, a good goal is to get a job and an apartment, so you can do nothing alone http://www.totse.com/community/images/icons/icon6.gif
You will feel pretty productive even at a McJob...at least your days will be filled, and you will have your own $ to spend.

Hey man take shrooms-- you sound like your in a good state of mind to do it.
Just don't fight the trip and take it as it comes, not judging the trip and instead letting the trip judge you and choose it's own direction to enlighten you.

I never said that it was THE answer to all of life's problems, I said that it can give you some insight as to how to solve your own problems, if your an individual that seems to think that altered states of consciousness can make you see yourself differently.

Ya, but still, I don't think I'd recommend DXM in any circumstances...

sometimes a sharp slap from a 4th dimensional hand is exactly what you need to straighten up
I actually find that DXM makes me incredibly motivated for weeks afterwards

Mushrooms will make you forget your problems for a while. Motivation doesn't come from a plant. It is inside you. You make yourself motivated by thinking, planning and assessing your goals and priorities. No amount of chemicals will do that for you.
Get fucked up, and when the trip passes and the afterglow subsides, you will find out that you're still at square one.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
A trip could essentially give you insight and open up areas of your mind not normally accessible allowing you to see things more clearly and from different perspective. You could even have epiphany's, something I have experienced with tripping which could easily change your outlook on life.
The problem is whether you can act on those thoughts or even remember them in the same perspective as clearly once the trip has ended.

Yes but the drug can open up the motivation and make it much clearer and easier to act on.
The drugs themselves offer the insight by opening up its potential but in the end it is the individual themself that chooses whether to act on that insight and how to act upon it.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
I would advise against the robitussing trip, unless your just in it to have fun. 1800mg is way too much for a first time anyway, please don't listen to him. As for mushrooms, the 1st post sums it up. It digs into your subconcious and shows you things, but really its not as life changing as you think it might be. My first time I was sitting there thinking about what I do in my life, going to college, work, routines etc and for some reason I could not for the life of me put it all together as something good for me. You should do it though, mushrooms are great, they do open doors in your mind that are closed when your sober.

"The drug can open up the motivation"? It's not a can of beans, man, you don't open it. Look, I've done shrooms, and while I was high, I thought I knew all the secrets of the universe. A day later, I realized that it is all a bunch of bullshit. Doing drugs is escapism, a behavioural pattern of avoidance. You don't like your troubles, so you skirt the issue. For a while.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
I was expecting a lot of flames, thanks for the replies. To elaborate, I've finished school and I'm off to University next year. Normally I don't have problems with motivation but I've just fallen into a cycle of not really doing anything and getting by. I live with my parents and I have plenty of money thanks to (legitimate) online business ventures. I live a normal social life, it's just been like one long holiday. I'm getting pretty bored now but the motivation to get off my ass and make something of this year has gone. I suppose I'm waiting for something big to happen or for a change, but every day is just like the last.
Anyway, I didn't mean for this to become a blog. I think I'll get hold of some over easter then, surely they wont make things worse.

Probably not the best attitude to go into college with, but meh. I know few people who weren't on academic probation their first year. 'And it usually goes downhill from there.
But I mean shit, you took a skip year right? You probably did it for a reason other than to sit around all day and jack off (or at least I hope you did)? Travel, try new things. Get an odd job, meet new people. It's always good meeting new people from different economic/social backgrounds. That'll give you perspective and insight.
You got a year, go do something, go live. Save a rain forest or some shit. :)

Yes but I think it depends what you see and how you perceive it and act upon it as an individual. Sure those "secrets of the universe" may not have meant anything real but there are actual depths to your mind that cant be understood or even reached as a sober person. A trip could just mean pretty moving colours and weird thoughts to one person or to another it could be the beginning of a complete mental makeover IF the user experiences certain elements of a trip then interprets it and acts upon it.
Doing drugs is escapism, a behavioural pattern of avoidance. You don't like your troubles, so you skirt the issue. For a while.
IMO using hallucinogens is not exactly the best way to escape any troubles. Maybe with other drugs you can use to escape issues but hallucinogens are probably only going to make those issues bigger and more apparent and as I'm trying to get at in some cases they will make you capable of understanding them as they become clearer or seen from different perspectives a sober mind cannot percieve.

Re: I'm Looking for Insight
OP, good sir, you are learning the weight of the world. When it crushes you to your knees, you will be done; you will be reborn with wings, and take flight with that weight upon your shoulders. Your wings will be born of infinite power, capable of lifting even the heaviest of burdens.
Some people grow their wings in a church, others in a forest, others in a friend, others in long lost returns, and an entire other host...the truth is, the wings are not found, they find you when you need them. You are still being broken down...all the lies, all the insanity...it's being proven for what it is. When it is abandoned and you have nothing left, the wings appear and lift you from hell to place you in the comforts of heavenly love.
