i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
I've been in a thinking a lot about oxy's lately, because that's the direction i think i'm going into right now. Especially with dental surgery on the horizon and percs in my system.
I've been wondering lately why opiates/opioids are the very best painkiller possibly researched when there is an absurdly large amount of scientists on the subject. This may sound like conspiracy-ish hippy type bullshit, but why haven't companies invested more into R&D to find a way to heal pain and prevent euphoria (which leads to addiction)?
I'd elaborate and talk about the flaws in the discussion, but it's not worth it. The point is - in the grand scheme of things, wouldn't it be better to have drugs that wouldn't cause socioeconomic problems and give the same pain relief as opiates? It would scew the underground for sure (us.... shitty), but I mean they make fentanyl lollipops for fuck sakes - what kind of message are they sending out to people? I'm surprised we haven't seen some government intervention to be honest. Are we just that small of a minority not to worry about?

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
They make money out of it..
Besides that, there's no real way around it, in any one particular chemical atleast. :)

ya but man... that's so unethical. you'd think we should give them the benefit of the doubt right? but i agree, that's definitely what it looks like.

Can you find a drug that relieves pain and doesn't bring any type of euphoria?
Fucking retard. Your whole arguement just went to shit with that one point.

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
why though wtf? i didn't know pain relief had anything to do with feeling happy. ibuprofen 600mg kills migraines from what my step dad who takes them tells me. i think you should give me more than "you're retarded".
Can you find a drug that relieves pain and doesn't bring any type of euphoria?
i wouldn't want to. i'm thinking from a different perspective. i'm talking serious pain relief.

You don't want to? WTF? You're whole arguement is that our prescription companies deal w/ pain by prescribing drugs that induce euphoria. That would mean that a drug must be created to NOT INDUCE EUPHORIA!!! What do you mean you don't want to? Lazy spic.
Ibuprofen doesn't do anything for serious pain.
Again, your arguement has been voided.

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
i think you're fucking really confused. i'm hypothetically speaking man, and that's what you have to understand. why would i WANT to stop getting perscribed oxycodone. i just said wouldn't society be better if there was more research into LAYING OFF THE FUCKING POPPY SEED IDEA.
ibuprofen fucking blows. you're right, no one ever said it was good. hence why i said serious pain relief.

Tylenol and asprin. and it is a good point, complete pain relief without worrying about getting addicted? It would help a lot of people out if there were such a thing.

...I'm really trying my best not to get angry here.
Do you really think that tylenol and asprin do a good job at helping w/ pain?
Have you ever had any serious pain in your life (aside from the rape you went thru as a teenager)?
The way pain medications act on your body also act on the euporic receptors. I'm sure the government would love to find a chemical that could help w/ serious pain and not induce euphoria. It just isn't going to happen.

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
There are a shit load of NSAID(s) and the likes, non-abusable pain relief drugs, not to mention all the fully synthetic pseudo type opioid(s) like Tramadol and the likes.
So why do they still fuck with opioid(s)/opiates you ask, that is your question right? They do it cause the shit actually WORKS, but there have been and still is a lot of research on other plants/chemicals to see their usefulness as new painkillers.
For instance I've read somewhere that they are now fucking around with Kratom, they've isolated the two main potent alkaloids that have effect on the brains main mu_opioid receptor, these two alkaloids are known as Mitragynine and the even more potent 7-hydroxymitragynine ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitragynine ).
A lot of synthetic pain relievers aren't really related to the opium poppy at all, but since they do have effects on the mu_opioid receptor and/or any of the many opioid receptors sites that we humans have scattered throughout our bodies make us think of them as opioid(s). Pethidine better known as Demerol is a good example, check out the Wikipedia and/or medical information available on it.
Does that make any sense or help answer your question at all? I hope so, peace!

no one said they were good man. and the government and pharmaceutical companies have absolutely NOTHING to do with eachother. the only way the government would even be mentioned in the same sentence as pharmaceuticals is if the companies were doing really controversial shit that caused enough of a public outcry. oxydose hit it right on the notch by mentioning tramadol and such though. maybe within the next near future, the abuse of pharmecuticals will be very different than they are now.

UHHHH
Tramadol is KNOWN TO BE ABUSED! Just search TOTSE!
The poster who I quoted mentioned tylenal in responce to your post, moron.
The government is anti drug and anti addiction. You think they would put money into finding drugs that wouldn't cause addiction, right? Jesus.
It just isn't there.

Man about the government and big pharma your totally wrong man. There are HUGE pharma lobbing groups that spent a fortune each year in fund raising and contribute to electorial campaigns, if you want a good example look at how long the drug Epedrine in some form or type has been avaliable, when ephedrine was banned the lobbiest had a specific clause wrote in that excluded pseudoephedrine.
So yes the government and big pharma companies all share some of each others blankets...

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
No shit pharmaceutical companies aren't ethical. Why do you think they charge so fucking much for their medicine in the U.S. when they charge exponentially less for the same brand name medication in a less wealthy country? Because they're greedy ass corporations and they aren't going to be stopped anytime soon.
Also, don't expect any kind of change in the power held by pharmaceutical companies if a Republican candidate wins the election.

Re: i've got a question about our prescription drug companies?
im canadian... i gotta start reading the economist again for my american political insight. it just blows my mind that I get taught business ethics in school, and the prof makes it sound like customer's WILL not buy certain products when they appear to be getting ripped off/or the victim of unethic behaviour. and when we talk about lobbyist, isn't that just the government being unethical by accepting grants and fundraising support?
and going back to one of the original questions. is the whole narco-pharmdrug-scene just not big enough for anyone to actively be an activist about it? maybe no one cares, and it'll get "worse" (we like drugs) and worse until it just blows the fuck up in their faces. i dno.
