God and Evil
Just so you understand my position, I do not believe in any religion. Nor a god per se, but rather the positive energy that engulfs our reality.
Many Christians believe god is an all-powerful, all-knowing, time-transcending being. With all this power, why does he not show a major influence on our world? Of course some believe "God" gave them "gifts" and "blessings", but why does evil still run rampant in the world?
If god is willing to stop evil, but is unable, then he's not a god.
If god is able to stop evil, but not willing, then he's not loving.
On another note, why do Christians exaggerate the love "God" has for them, yet fully accept the fact that he wouldn't think twice about sending them to a burning pit of misery?
I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Re: God and Evil
Without evil, how could good ever have looked so good?
Not only are the things you deem "evil" just your personal interpretation of parts of reality, there is no reason why they should not be possible. "Evil" exists because society allows it, because we all contribute to it, and because these things exist as possibilities. They are part of God, as all is. All is one.
Blame the existance of evil on God all you want. I don't think God will care. It is our fault that we expereince it ... it is up to us to change that.

"Of course some believe "God" gave them "gifts" and "blessings", but why does evil still run rampant in the world?"
God not only has the power to put an end to evil, but he IS putting an end to evil. For a being that has been given the power of decision to turn back from selfishness and choose 'good', they must, as a whole, see the absolute fruitlessness of selfishness. Man will not do this until he has eradicated every last manifestation of God within mankind and still finds itself utterly lost, miserable, and full to the brim with suffering. This is the end of evil: every man, woman, and child will see their folly, and finally be open to the Truth that is prophesied to come as the Highest Word from the Mouth of God.
God has given us a choice; for us to change our mind from evil to good, we must see evil for what it is. The true identity of evil will not be known until evil is ALL that mankind knows.

Re: God and Evil
One of OPs basic premises is invalid--that is, there is no such thing, really, as "evil" This is merely a judgemental label we place on things, and what we place it on says more about us than the thing so labelled.
That said, SOME actions are obviously harmful to others. This is a "so what?" for three reasons.
One, God gave us all free will.
Two, negative experiences turn into positive learning when you view them in terms of your total evolution. That is why it is impossible to say what others are going through is either good or bad: it is neither. Their lives are part of a pattern they chose before they came here, or are patterns they created while here, either through balance or through lack of it. In short, we create our own reality; there are no victims, no villains.
Three, we have immortal souls; we exist throughtout eternity. In the context of eternity, anything that happens in any one lifetime is of less consequence than the falling of single leaf in a great forest.

Re: God and Evil
'Proof' of that is impossible, especially when everything can be doubted. But an individuals reasoning may go something like this ...
As 'time' exists within God, God simply is; there was no beginning, there will be no end.
As all is one, as thou art that, there was no beginning, and there will be no end.

Are you saying that God is eradicating evil by being completely absent and letting evil flourish?
What a massive cop-out. Even your insane theistic brethren will laugh at you for that one.

Re: God and Evil
What evil are you refering to?
If its the evil that people do then from what i understand he cant because that would affect freewill.

Evil as in the force.
I don't really think it could be created by humans, because nobody is born a Jeffrey Dahmer. Most of the time it just kind of enters and controls the target.

Re: God and Evil

No. God is wholly present: it is God's manifestations that are being eradicated. Spirituality, Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, Peace...in case you haven't noticed, the world worships ego, wrath, vengeance, resentment, and war.
Even those that preach spirituality preach it only towards friends; the same with love, mercy, forgiveness, and peace. When it comes to practicing what they preach, their ego lashes at their enemy as does their wrath, vengeance, resentment, and war.
This isn't something I just came up with either: This is Revelations. God lets us sink into our evils so that He may present Righteousness when we are willing to take it.

Re: God and Evil
THERE IS NO GOOD AND EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are a contradiction. Contradictions do not exist in nature. If the rabbit isn't fast enough to get away from the wolf, he doesn't deserve to live. If the wolf is too slow, or has "morals" and he starves, then he deserved to starve. This is what I see, and the only proof of any rules "god" wants me to follow. I do what I think I can get away with doing that is best for me. Or should I go by some book written by joe schmoe 2000 years ago? Thats a tough one.
If you believe in God, you have to believe that you (your brain) and nature were all created by this God. You are not evil, unless "god" wanted you to be.

Re: God and Evil
ACE, the very notion you espouse is contained WITHIN that 2000 year old book written by Joe Schmoe (Well, that notion is actually written by Solomon...but I suppose he is one of the authors you attribute to Joe Schmoe's literary works ;))
I said in my heart, "Concerning the condition of the sons of men, God tests them, that they may see that they themselves are like animals." For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals; one thing befalls them: as one dies, so dies the other. Surely, they all have one breath; man has no advantage over animals, for all is vanity. All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust.
The man that thinks himself superior is as much a fool as the man that excuses his weighted conscience. The reality is thus: We're in the top tier of the food chain, but we're still part of the food chain. Bacteria, insects, and plants will eventually eat us! We are not some great peoples, nor are we worthless dirt: We are just another part of Creation.
