What amino acid and co-factor supplementation can help me increase my CNS' ACh levels
I am quiting smoking and wish to increase the levels of ACh by proper nutritional supplementation in order to get back to feeling normal as quickly as possible.
Im sick and tired of feeling like shit before my morning smoke, pissed off, nervous, and craving is not what i can handle under my daily stress load.
Currently i only smoke about 4 cigarettes on smoking days, and at times go a day or so without a cigarette as i try to limit myself to a pack a week.
Just to be clear, I am not talking of Acetylcholine esterase inhibitors. I belie that temporarily inhibiting the breakdown of ACh is not the solution but will be used in the first week of cessation.
Please try not control yourself and try to not ridicule me for asking about smoking cessation.
It is the only crutch in life that has ever helped me get through though times. As other substances(like weed and alcohol), immediately after consumption, tend to dull my metal acuity which is not an option for me.

No fucking clue dude. I should look into Acetylcholine though, I can't remember for the life of me what the it has to do with smoking.
Don't mean to hijack but do you/anyone else know if after you numb your dopamine receptors from smoking and then stop, if they will get "un-numbed". More so, sensitive again.

You could take alpha-GPC, it's a nootropic choline source, very neuroprotective and a top notch source of choline.
Just go pick up some phosphatidylcholine at the store, it helps. You can take mega doses to relieve stress.

The patch works well for me for 2 weeks. Then it becomes a psychological battle.

Quitting smoking isn't easy. If there were an easier way to do it they'd be using it by now. Quitting is a huge psychological battle. Once you quit though don't let yourself have a smoke every now and then, that's what makes it 10x harder. You have to quit, period and never fucking smoking again or you will fail over and over and over again.
I've tried about 5 times now. I'm currently on my longest streak 1.5 months and I'm going pretty strongly but I still want one every single day. I just have to remind myself that if I smoke even one I'll start the entire process over and I'll have to go through that first week of withdrawl, that's easily the worst part.

Well, about twelve inches in front of me is about a half-gram of finely divided choline bitartarate. Wonder if that would do something, ACh-wise... ;)

bitartarate
any particular preference as to why bitartarate?
I try to not go off on rides with supplements.
Im looking for a long term strategy, which is further complicated by nicotines ability to permanently establish the Nicotinic-ACh receptors :(
Nicotine is fucking evil, beyond belief..... Does it mater what the radio is playing if the volume knob is stuck on the lowest setting? :( :( :(
Shed some light Joe Pedo, I don't know what to do. (will the CNS elevate its level of ACh production on its own....everything has been dulled and it feels like all the lights are dim, as is my thought process)
This is a real pickle
Also i was particularly interested diet wise, a more natural way of elevating ACh production.....
what is the primary source of an ACh precursor in a healthy diet?
amino acid/naturally occurring substances are my primary target.
i guess its a positive, personal preference. The fact is, 4+ years of dopamine elevation via amino acid supplements and co-factors has essentially made me a more stable person by eliminating my medically diagnosed and for a short time heavily medicated ADHD.
Remember kids, nicotine is a one way addiction, tolerance does not go down :(

Re: What amino acid and co-factor supplementation can help me increase my CNS' ACh levels
I hear you Ave. Nicotine is some nasty shit. I've been smoking since my teens. I'm 29 now. It sucks because I can't (usually) smoke when I get up and for the rest of the day, only at night (at work, around people who frown upon the smell of burning tobacco). So all day i'm a bit cranky/jittery/fiening for a smoke and sometimes a jerk. Later on in the evening after 2-3 cigs i'm back to my old self again. And then it's time for bed. Sucks. Sometimes I use those nicotine lozenges during the day and they help, usually just one though, the 2mg ones. But you still crave a bit, but you can handle it more.
FUCK NICOTINE!

Re: What amino acid and co-factor supplementation can help me increase my CNS' ACh levels
Nicotine addiction fucking SUCKS. I quit just before new years. If I were you I'd rather look into some ativan/valium, some pot, some DVDs and then just try to sit out those first 3 days and then you'll feel a whole lot better. When you do quit, remind yourself why you're doing this, write it down everywhere. It's gonna be tricky any way man, just buckle up the best you can, else you could always try some crazy shit like hypnosis
Wait a sec, the receptors don´t just flush away like with caffeine addiction? Wouldn't that mean permanent tolerance?
If it were really a huge problem, I´d go get a script for zyban man, but on a pack a week would 3 days of moderate WDs be such a big problem? I dunno, expand a bit, how long have you smoked for, and ever tried to quit cold turkey before? Sure it's a pain in the ass, but if you can keep yourself away from stress for those first three days, and then away from temptation too much in the following 2 weeks you should be able to stay off for at least a month or two :)
Also, have a read (even if just downloaded as PDF) of Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit smoking, it hammers its message into you often enough that you actually start to believe him, and it does get you to question why the fuck you're actually hooked on tobacco

Re: What amino acid and co-factor supplementation can help me increase my CNS' ACh levels
I don't think i understand..
Nicotine amplifies synaptic transmission so that less transmitter molecules are needed to stimulate an action potential. Therefore they are reducing the threshold in the post-synaptic membrane..
surely to combat that you would eat LESS ACh?

Lol, that's why i went cold turkey
Makes sense tho, seeing as zyban=nicotinic ACh antagonist and used for quitting smoking
