Marijuana and Lung Cancer
So today in chemistry my teacher mentioned to me that a new study conducted show that weed smoking will increase your risk of getting lung cancer by 500 times.
She told me to read the article in the news. I found that http://tinyurl.com/2cp53s states it increases your risk by 5.7 times. I figure this was the study she was talking about as she said recent and this was recent.
I don't know if any of you are interested but I thought it was kind of shocking. I think it was 5.7 times MORE then cigarettes, not just in general. Makes me consider saving up for a vape or just start eating that shit.
EDIT: If anyone has any other news articles or the exact study information I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm gonna go blaze.

Re: Marijuana and Lung Cancer
I'd think the anti-oxidants would cancel out any possibility of cancer.

jesus fucking christ, all of these so called "breakthrough" studies are retarded, half the damage (yes i pulled that number out of my ass, but whatever) comes from smoking joints without filters, when they dont realize the vast majority of people now a days are using pipes, or BONGS for christ sake which would really minimize the damage done.

The question is, how much worse or better is the paper of a joint than the direct flame of a bowl.

Is Scientific American better?

How about Science Daily?
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/05/060526083353.htm
Sure, they're not peer-reviewed, but they're pretty reputable.

figured as much aha.
Thanks a lot for the 2006 study. I wasn't all that worried after thinking and talking to a friend for a bit. If marijuana was really pwning us hard I'm sure we'd see a lot of marijuana related deaths. It can be 5.7times more carcinogenic for all I care if no one is just turning up dead. Where are all the dead stoners?
Jamaica, I agree with you. The 2008 was like 79 people or something. Not the greatest study if you ask me. Plus 2 years ago I'm sure was the exact same for the conditions as now. Plus it was with a larger amount of people.
I know you were just trolling Ave but I wanna say that no matter who wrote the article, the info from the study is what mattered and I don't think they were smudging it at all.
...AND! I just got through with my second of 3 interviews for Staples. :) I'm gonna get my work on soon w00t. /spurious.

Re: Marijuana and Lung Cancer
Seriously, this is just bullshit.
Smoking cannabis isn't good for your lungs at all, and can harm the capacity of them, and probably cause emphysema and all that...... but it's just not like tobacco, cancer wise!
Tobacco is cured in a way which speeds up the formation of carcinogens and radioactive particles in it. Regular smokers smoke huge amounts of tobacco over a lifetime, and this does seriously increase the risk of cancers to various different areas of the body.
There is zero evidence that smoking cannabis significantly increases your chance of getting cancer in general, or lung cancer specifically. In fact, there's evidence that it counters against the formation of cancers in cell tissues and stuff..... especially when it's not being used, and is eaten or used as an ointment or whatever. People have known this for agessss anyway - god, I hate the way modern "studies" totally ignore the lessons of the past. If cannabis smoking was causing people to drop deal of severe illnesses and stuff, I would have thought other societies would have picked up upon this! As it is, in some societies hash smokin' is associated with boring old men, who have the time (and inability to do much else..) to sit around and smoke pot..... ho ho ho :p
Unless a study is taking into account things like.... various different canabinoids (not just THC), amount smoked "on average", whether tobacco is smoked too, how cannabis actually does this chemically, numbers of carcinogens not actually being the same as cancer-causing-potential and uses a large number of volunteers from several societies/cultures.. etc..... I just don't care. Dodgy science, innit....
