Default complete and utter BULLSHIT.

"The reason drugs are illegal isn't because of what it does to your body, but because of what it does to the community. If we (America) were to legalise pot, everybody who smokes (A hell of alot of people) would start doing it. And statistics will show you 98% of Americans are irresponsible as hell. People still drive stoned and kill kids all the time.
If drugs became legal in America 1: it would screw with the economy, he who has the drugs, makes the rules, and 2: would seriously create bigger problems, see number 1 for an example. Too many gangs are ruled by drugs, and if we legalized them, they'd either grow more powerful, or, hypothetically would lose all power, but because that's not possible, gangs would just get worse.
People do stupid shit, and it' those dumb ass people that keep drugs illegal. Yeah, you've never hit a kid with a car, you've never been reduced to meth because of the pot, but enough people have to warrant it's illegality. If you think about it, 99.99% of "Pot should be legal" arguments are self centered and uninformed. The shit kills people, ALL THE TIME, and not just the people who are doing it.
Yes it's a great (and addicting) medicine, but there ARE better ones. And too many people argue that it's not really addicting and that it's all media BS, but I've seen it from every angle possible, and I can tell you, the media ain't BSing as far as that goes."

Could anybody please explain to me what it is that makes the rest of the world so ignorant?

I find it a little funny, considering I grew up in a fairly liberal family, and turned out just about as libertarian as they come, while my twin brother is merely liberal (even bordering on conservative at times). I don't want to change this into too much of a political topic, because I like most of you guys, so I don't want it to get moved. But, does anybody have any idea about what it is that gives us our opinions about drugs?

Edit: Btw, that quote was from another forum, a gaming-oriented forum, actually. You guys should be happy to know that the majority of replies to that were pro- or at least neutral-weed.

I dunno. It's weird, because I was talking to my aunt about getting put on buprenorphine. When I mentioned it was a pain killer, she got this look of fear in her eyes and was all "Can you just stop it? They are horrible! When I was on percocet and just stopped, I got so sick."

Meanwhile I'm on a couple meds, one of which is prednisone, which can kill me if I just stop taking it. Of course, she was unaware of this, and when I mentioned it she started talking about how someone we know is stealing from people to get heroin, but then I know plenty of people who get around life just fine with drugs.

imo it really depends on the person. I'd prefer it if some drugs were legalized. It annoys me that I can't get Tylenol 3s or darvocet or something OTC, because regular NSAIDs do nothing. I don't think heroin is horrible enough to be completely outlawed, but I also don't think it should be available at a super market. Pot probably should be, though, and I think weaker stimulants and pain killers should be allowed OTC [high apap hydrocodone, codeine, etc], but shouldn't be available for purchase or consumption by anyone under 18 or 21.

but mostly I think people just hate drugs because of all the media attention they get.

Most of that would happen if drugs were part of the free market. Now selling pot from government controlled offices would be a better way and taxing it and making sure it goes to a good cause like cancer research. Cancer would be nonexistent within a few years.

i wouldnt say non-existant, but definitely understood at a much better level.

marijuana has MANY hundreds more uses than just smoking. there is going to obviously be controlling laws on it to avoid trafficking and other such things that that man has said. it would be as any other drug, its fine to have as long as your not having sumptuous amounts that obviously would be for selling. without a permit of course, im sure it could get to that level. but no, gangs arent at all driven by drugs, physically yes, but motivation? no, usually its merely blood feuds over people that arent even related.

uhm, there would obviously be fields of it, but these would probably be strands with VERY LOW amounts of thc and high fiber content for producing wood-like substances as well as hemp.

yes the media DOES in fact overhype marijuana. many an article claims that someone in fact OD'd or some other nonsensical bullshit. if you do the slightest bit of research you would realize many of these articles have unfounded assumptions that are merely trying to scare people into pseudo-fears of the drug community. Many of the drugs that are legal and given to you for those various "problems" they tell you about, usually come with a VERY grim side effect that is usually hidden from you. i know many people, including my mom, who have been hooked on oxycontin simply from a prescription. marijuana has next to no negative side effects, alleviates pain, nausea, schizophrenia, paranoia, stress, insomnia, bipolar disorder, insociability, and many many other things without any negative effects whatsoever. of course it DOES depend on the person his/herself but then again, SO DOES ANY OTHER DRUG that a doctor will give you anyway, it just depends on the person as to what it will do.

and trust me, MILLIONS more have died at the hands of every single other drug other than tetrahydrocannibinol on not only the DRUG ITSELF but by the DIRECT actions of the user/intoxicated person.

people need to start reading up on FACTS rather than listen to media propaganda before posting ignorant horseshit like that on here.

I say, in the long run, legalization of all drugs could be a good thing. However, atleast for america, we tend to take things over board.

It's honestly a shame when people look at Marijuana (or any other illegal substance for that matter) as some sort of deamon. However Once alcohol and tobacco come into the mix, it's all of a sudden O.K. because god ol' uncle sam says so. Too bad alcohol and tobacco kill more people that we can even count.

I think the only good advice we get about drugs is with tobacco. I smoke cigarettes, but atleast the public is aware of the dangers from them. However i don't think people should look down on smokers, because fuck, it's my body, and i'm not hurting anyone with the substances i put in it.

As for the alcohol, and every other drug, the government is just contributing to thier own problem. Twisting words, and statistics to make it seem like one drink is more than enough for you to drive through your local neighborhood at 100 mph, and run over two kids on bicycles, an old lady, and finish it off with driving through someones living room. It's not just alcohol, every other illegal substance is demonized. Made to seem like it was the cocaine that made the user steal from his family to get his fix. Too bad the cocaine didn't hold a gun to his head and demand it.

There are three major reasons i feel drugs should be atleast, regulated. 1. Gangs. I thin it's somewhere around 80% of all profits made by gangs are from drugs. So, in turn, if the drugs were taken out of the hands of the gang members, and into the hands of the citizens, then we have taken the bread and butter from gangs. 2. Prices. A herion addict steals 20 dollars a day from his mothers purse just to get his fix. What people don't see is nicotine produces a much high level of dependance than heroin, but i havn't seen anyone rob a ligour store to get a new pack. Why? because cigarettes cost anywhere from 2-7 dollars a pack in the U.S. You can find that kind of money in your sofa cushions. 3. Keep the drugs out of the wrong hands. I'm 18 years old, and i live in the U.S. that has a 21 year old drinking age. I do have friends that are over 21 so i can still get alcohol, but it's certainly not as easy as getting an illegal drug. Anyone who doesn't live under a fuckin rock knows that drug dealers certainly arn't checking ID.

I know there are a few holes in this, but i didn't intend on it being a pulitzer prize winner. Such as my comparison with nicotine and heroin. Nicotine maybe be more addicting, but certainly not as dehabilitating.

We can't have rapid change in this country with drugs. If one day george bush frew a pair of balls and said "Fuck it, let's make them all available to the general public" then we'd have alot of OD'd teens. What we should do is slowly ease into thier legalization, like we are currently doing with marijuana. As well as actually education the public on what these drugs do to you. No acid isn't gonna make you stab your mother becasue you thing she's some sort of a fire breathing monster, but you can still harm yourself if you're not experienced with the substance.

I feel the ends would justify the means in my case.

I don't think opiates should be legal, I mean, no good can really come out of that. But certainly things like weed, shrooms, LSD, salvia, DMT, 2c-b and MDMA should be legal.

M parents approach any topic with a logical manner. Unless ofcourse the topic is drugs. they are convinced that mental hostipitals are full of people who only did marijuana once, and that turned them into a vegetable, or schizophreniac. They refuse to read any scientific evidence to the contrary, claiming it was written by pot smokers who just want to get it legalised. It is INFURIATING.

I remember in health class they showed us a video about weed. The video basically took all the facts about weed and turned them into lies. The teacher told us "Theres a myth that marijuana safe but it's all lies".

With shit like that being taught to us it's no wonder people think weed kills.

Edit-I get what you're saying ingutted.I know too many stoners that are like that.

I honestly don't think a lot of drugs should be legal. Too many people would use them then. Most people definetly aren't ready to just say "hey what is this psychadelic mushrooms ill try this" without researching it and such. The world would be a chaotic mess of psychosis and junkies and crazies. The only thing I thing could go legal and work is marijuana, it's really a joke that its criminal to smoke the stuff.

The answer:

-Give a fair warning about having thorough drug knowledge.

-Legalize all drugs.

-Let nature do what the fuck it does and play it by ear until shit's stable/desirable.

-Prevent shit, always takes 10 times longer to fix shit like this than fuck it up.

Why the fuck does a government have a right to control what I put in my body? If I want to use drugs, it's my decision. They may be unhealthy for me, but IT'S MY FUCKING DECISION. It's the whole idea of the thing that pisses me off the most.

With legalization comes education and information. NOW RIGHT NOW is when people say hey, I'm gonna eat/do this drug without research, if you had to buy it in a store, proper information would be given, and the trade could be regulated, just like EVERY OTHER FUCKING TRADE WE HAVE NOW.

That is why they banned hallucinogens and shit before. You can easily get it, but people will always abuse drugs. Legalizing drugs wouldn't make anything better. I agree some people should not go to jail for using such drugs. Illegal or legal, we will continue to use drugs. If you want to legalize the drugs to make them more available to buy, well then you are just selfish.
