Default The Lithium Thread [Previous threads were merged]

The thread by "Trina" reminded me of something that happened long ago.

I once had a manic episode and got slam dunked in the looney bin. When I was released I was taking lithium only. At that point in time, marginal to average weed would just kick my ass. A couple of tokes would literally immobilize me. I quit taking the lithium when the bottle they sent home with me ran out.

I have no clue if this experience was unique to me or if lithium might enhance the effects of THC for everyone.

Anybody here smoking while on lithium have a similar experience?

Been there, done that. Not the bin though. Didn't notice shit different. You probably were just use to being manic and smoking.

fail at knowledge^^

lithium provides a umm 'hallucinating' effect with the sweet lady.. and a small percentage of the population of america is born with this slight little abnormality of having high lithium in their brain.

Individual human brain chemistry varies so greatly.

I EXPERIENCED no noticeable difference to my highs. Maybe I'm in the vast minority though.

Also, if anyone does decide to try this combo be careful; when lithium is used medicinally regular blood levels are checked to watch for toxicity. If I remember correctly, it was once weekly.

Bullshit. I've been on lithium for years and it hasn't changed how pot effects me. In fact, I don't hardly ever get high unless I smoke a lot of THC, but that could just be due to years of use.

So?

It's not like they'll drug test you while they have your blood or anything...

I'm supposed to take lithium but I usually dont. The first time it made me sick, and it doesn't really do anything now, so it's pointless taking it. I sometimes take like 4-5 of them when smoking, because I heard it makes you hallucinate. I didn't. It just makes me more thirsty than smoking alone does.

Hi all, in a short while I'm going to be put on Lithium. Now from what my doctor has said, I'll have to take weekly blood tests to check lithium toxicity levels in my blood. Now the problem is, I've been told if illegal drugs are found in my system, my phsyciatrist will refuse to help me. Fucking stupid I know, but thats the way it is. I know the usual reply to this kinda stuff is "If they're not testing for it, they wont find it" But seing as they're looking for toxins, will illegal drugs show up on these tests?

Sorry if its a stupid question, but its taken me far too fucking long to get the balls to get all this sorted out. I dont want to throw it all away now.

Cheers for any help, much appreciated.

Unless this is court ordered or done through your parents they would have to legally tell you first if they where looking for other drugs. Not only that it would cost money. Lithium isn't methadone or anything, you should be fine. I've gone in high as a kite on all types of drugs, even alcohol and gotten blood taken out of me for specific tests and the doctor never said anything. They even gave me codeine and klonopin after.

That's bullshit, blood testing once a week? I'd be pissed with my doctor if he did that to me. How long are you going to be on the medication?

We don't know how your doctor is testing you? and it doesn't sound like you do either.
if i was you, ask for what he is testing for, i'm pretty sure you have that right, and hold the drugs until, unless the lithium isn't helping.

I didn't say that, moron. I'm saying if someone not prescribed decides to take Lithium, for added effect, doubt the effect though, to be careful with the LITHIUM because it's quite easy to get to toxic levels.

Im pretty sure legally, they have to have your consent to do a drug screen. If they do find drugs in your system the only thing they can do is just refuse to treat you, but because of doctor patient-confidentiality they cannot tell anyone except medical professionals that are working with you. i dont even think they can legally tell your parents without consent if you are of a certain age where you can make decisions for yourself.

It's most likely a scare tactic.

and most lithium compounds are Li3P, they tend to stray away from Li2CO3 due to the rise in oxygen in the blood, could be detrimental to those with pacemakers and such*

A little insult, not to the extreme a lot of people here take it, is good. A little kick in the ass to learn more.

I'll even swallow my ego and 90% of people's on here and say Meta, or quite a few people on here for that matter, know more in the drug department then me.

Well I couldn't see where you were going with it so I took a guess.

Still, they monitor your blood because of the long term effect, not from one or two times of use. Anyone want to try lithium who isn't prescribed - besides being an idiot for taking something that has no recreational value - will quickly find out that it does indeed have no recreational effect and so will not keep taking it. Making the toxic part pretty much a non-issue. Unless, of course, they took a stupidly high dose. But that would stupid in its own right [and left].

True.

I was thinking, (not sure how long Lithium takes to kick in,) that someone might take it for weeks waiting for an effect.

In any account, I hope after having read this thread, everyone knows the "added effect" is bullshit.
