Melatonin And Valerian ?
i know smoking the budsky increases melatonin ALOT. i have quit smoking. only for a few days but, i have to quit all drugs that show up on tests :(
but one day after a friend ran out of his 1mg/day alprazolam script, he ran up to GNC and bought some 500 mg valerian root capsules, i dont remember how many he took, but i know it was a few. he later told me that he felt some of the effects of taking his xanax (anxiety going away, floaty feeling)
now, ive also read about melatonin and how it works with people.
im an ex heroin addict. and would like something somewhat to just chill me out. not so much euphoric like smack at all. but something more along the lines of a benzodiazepine.
would the combo of these 2 work well?
does anyone know a dosage on either? erowid has alot of info on both, but i figured id ask her also.
it seems like both would work well to be a "benzo replacement" if you will. and you can get them both over the counter.

Re: Melatonin And Valerian ?
Try this:
12.5mg to 25mg (no more than this) of Doxylamine Succinate (OTC at Walgreens).
2mg of Melatonin.
A bowl or two of some very high grade dank.
"In a study, it was found that doxylamine succinate is possibly more effective than the barbiturate phenobarbital for use as a sedative.[3]" From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxylamine
This combo always helps me to chill and feel really nice.
Peace.

Re: Melatonin And Valerian ?
No way in a hell is this concoction to be considered a 'benzo replacement', at most it would be quite effective as a sleep aid but that's it.
However, I personally prefer a valerian extract bought from a reputable online vendor as opposed to the powder root they sell at gnc. Rule of thumb -don't buy botanicals from drugs stores or other convenient type store, since they will lack quality.
Valerian when obtained from a legit source at most is mildly mellowing in that it calms the nerves slightly. I like to use it in combination with other herbs on nights when I'm restless.
.peace.

Re: Melatonin And Valerian ?
The Doc - I said i have to take drug tests
Brooklyn - i didnt mean replacement as in it would work as well. but would it work to some degree, is what im trying to find out.
hopefully from someone who is educated with herbals.
somthing to calm me down, and help me chill out, thus the reasons i had the quotations and not just simply saying a benzo replacement.

but you leave parts out. you said you like to use that in combonation with other herbs. what might those be?

generally passion flower and/or a magnolia extract... but again, I use these as a sleep aid and it is quite mild NOT a bezo replacement.
Okay, well aside from the way you worded your original post, disregarding this whole benzo replacement idea-
If what your looking for is a botanical which is anxiolytic in nature - an herb which will help your mind and body relax then erythrina mulungu is something worth researching.
Also, kava and not that shit from gnc but a quality kava root or a decent extract may be something for you to further research.
.peace.

Re: Melatonin And Valerian ?
would the combo of these 2 work well?
I've hustled the price of hops oil, chemically similar to valerian, up to $50/g before, with repeat customers... 'n not sold as another drug.
...then again, there is a large difference between "concentrated extractions from raw herb" and "crap from GNC," usually.
As for melatonin... I've... never tried it with melatonin. I can tell you that it works better in combinations - 0.05g or so on top of a bowl of herb will kick the bowl's ass, whereas alone it tends to be a mild sleep aid at best in those dosages...
im an ex heroin addict. and would like something somewhat to just chill me out. not so much euphoric like smack at all. but something more along the lines of a benzodiazepine.
Well... the GABA agonists of valerian/hops are about as along the lines of a benzodiazepine as you're likely to get off the herb market. 'n I'm guessing that as an ex heroin junkie, you've probably got a bit of anxiety as well, which they can help with...
...as far as quality relaxation, well... whole kava root was mentioned earlier...'n, ironically, capsella bursa-pastoris ('shepherd's purse") has an oxytocin analog, which is fairly anti-anxiety...
...if you really want to mellow, high doses of the GABA antagonist thujone, actually, do remarkably well. However, the comedown is a long-lasting rage, and is rather a bitch at the dosages where you start actually noticing and enjoying the pleasureable relaxation (and mildly irritating at subpsychoactive doses).
...there's probably a lot more if I could be arsed to sit 'n think of it... but more important to a great degree than what you're taking - kratom, lactuca tincture, dagga - is that you get some quality whole plant that has been well-treated, rather than cut-rate herbs which were stuffed in a gelcap five years ago and are no longer potent. 'n cleanup is seldom a bad thing, as long as you can keep yourself from ODing...
Best of luck...

Re: Melatonin And Valerian ?
buy some Phenibut.
I have snorted enough of it, out of interest, to pretty much lose motor co-ordination....
It works quite well for the intended purpose.
Best of all it is legal, for now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenibut
" phenibut has a mechanism of action similar to that of many drugs which are known to reduce anxiety in humans. Animal studies have compared the profile of phenibut to diazepam (Valium), which has pronounced anxiolytic properties.............. One study found phenibut had a tranquilizing effect similar to, but weaker than diazepam.............. It also caused sedation and muscle relaxation but again these effects were weaker than those caused by diazepam [2]."
