Default tyrosine with adderall... is it really that effective?

I remember Joepedo (may have been someone else) mentioned it in a post somewhere that the body makes good use of it as a dopamine precursor in certain situations, one of which is for amphetamines. They said if you load up on it a few hours before you're gonna take adderall that it helps counteract the nervous shaky feeling of ur body being low on dopamine.
GNC's website says they sell it in 1000 and 500 mg tablets. How much do you gotta take before amps for it to be effective? is there a different/additional supplument that'd be better for this?

I had made what i thought were confident plans to not take my adderall very often until I leveled out, but that was before this semester started. sophomore in mech engineering... i've done 2x more schoolwork in the first week than any week of finals i've done before, and i'm just keeping my head above water.

inputs/suggestions pleeeaaase )=

Nope, was someone else. ;)

The 500mg should be decently effective.

Different? No.

Additional? Well, there's a giant thread...

Wouldn't Levodopa be better? it should convert to dopamine faster than tyrosine, if i'm not wrong.

L-dopa is raelly expensive.

If you buy it as a Mucuna Pruriens supplement it's quite cheap. It has <50mg's l-dopa a pill, plus many other psychoactive.

sweet guys thanks a lot! i knew that L-dopa was the primary one that passed the brain barrier most effectively, but like pooter said, i assumed it was either to costly for normal people, or just downright hard to come by.

GNC doesn't have Mucuna Pruriens sups listed on their site, so i'm gonna assume it's probably a pretty slim chance a whole foods type store would? There's a few decent looking sites that I'll look to place an order on if I can't find it local.

What does totse think is a good dose of the stuff?

that site recommends a third to a half of a 400mg (10% L-dopa by weight) capsule in the morning, just dissolved in water or juice. Should I start lower than that if taking it with another stimulant (adderall)?

thanks again for the great replies
-Jon

PS: joepedo, should I still give the tyrosine a try you think, or is there no reason to bother if I get the Mucuna Pruriens Supplement? Would I see any added benefits from alternating the 2 or anything like that?

Get the Solaray DopaBean 333mg caps (15% l-dopa by weight). It says to take it once in the mornin and once in the afternoon.

These supplements have an enteric coating, so you might want to take it on an empty stomach. Don't think it would absorb well on a full one.

a friend of mine in med school that i talked to about this stuff expressed a little concern on what takin this stuff can do to your dopamine nuerotransmitters... not to mention possibly causing dependance/developing parkinsons if you take to much to often.

http://www.antiaging-systems.com/extract/l-dopa.htm

found that on the subject. pretty complex and in-depth for casual reading but I found it interesting. The bigger-picture conclusion (which is actually in the middle of the document) is that the tests showing this stuff to be harmful were faulty and didn't properly simulate a human brain processing it. They actually quite state that taking it regularly can be of significant benefit to long term health. seems like a pretty intense concept to me.

Joepedo you've probably read that or some similar version of it before... what's your take on it?
