totse.com | Distro for a 300mhz PowerPC?

I have a 300mhz PowerPC iMac G3 sat here doing nothing, Ubuntu 6.** is too slow, any ideas for a distro that would run well?

Would prefer Gnome and a package manager, can do without Gnome though.

eeeh, i dislike gentoo because you have to manually.compile.everything.

No you don't, emerge does it for you.

Say I want to install srm, `emerge srm`.

Emerge (the frontend to Portage) will download the source and build it with the options set in CFLAGS.

I couldn't find a zenwalk ppc distro?

And I don't think Gentoo would be any good for me (bit of a newbie).

OP: Ubuntu isn't slow, your computer is. I would try Damn Small Linux.

Again, you don't need to manually compile anything. Also, DSL is optimized for size, not speed. It isn't ideal for this.

I've heard puppy linux recommended (in this forum) for similar situation, maybe you should try that.

Puppy linux is good.
