Default Marriage.

To begin, I'm not a huge fan of the insitution.

But legal agreement or not, whats your opinion on who you should spend the rest of your days with? Do you hold out for the dreamgirl that you run into once every 5 years or so, or the girl thats all around good but not setting any records?

I figure you marry the person you love, and have been with for atleast three years, and who you can actually see spending a considerable amount of your future with.

Dont marry someone you've only been with for a few months, dont sign everything away when you marry someone, and actually think about what you're doing before you just jump into it.

People change, they have their bad sides. Be prepared for that when you marry someone, and protect your ass and your assets so if shit hits the fan atleast you wont lose everything.

Apart from that, marriage is about love and happiness and a serious commitment. I've met very few men I'd ever even consider marrying, and that's the way things will probably continue.

At this point, I can forsee never getting married.

I plan on avoiding marriage for the rest of my life if I can.

Then again, I might start feeling lonely when I get older and I might cave in if the right chick is around. But not until I'm at least 40 or so.

And definitely NO KIDS.

What the fuck? Im the opposite. I would much rather have kids than a marriage, kids are badass, you can re-live your childhood/teen years through them. Kids will probably be one of the greatest things in my life, but I could live without a wife. But Im down with having a wife too, as long as shes what I want.

Good point, NO KIDS. EVER.
Guinea pigs, dogs, chinchillas, maybe even snakes and spiders and some oxen, but no kids!

I figure, if I love a guy enough to marry him I'd be stupid to then go and share him with anyone, especially a snotnosed little brat that will demand alot of his time and attention.

Cynical much?

I've always assumed that I'd get married at some point, yet when I picture my future there's never a woman in it. Odd, that.

I'd love to adopt or have foster kids. Kids are awesome, you can teach them crazy shit like how to make rockets and how to weld.

The only reason that a guy should get married is if he wants children. Otherwise he's far better off in a legal sense if he stays a single man with a separate bank account. I would never marry a woman who didn't want a least one child. I might live with her, but never marry. Also children emulate their parents, so if your kid is a brat, we could make some pretty good assumptions about you.

If you love someone and they love you, then you wouldn't have to hog him, children are a sort of joint effort, a challenge to overcome together, and if approached properly can bring two people even closer together.

It's fucking hard to raise a kid by yourself. You have to both provide physical and moral support, and it's hard to do both at the same time. This is why the institution of marriage developed int he first place. So one person could focus on providing and the other on caring.

I feel like kids are just thought of as the next step in relationships today. But I could see myself getting married, a low-key and intimate affair WITH prenups. I haven't really found anyone I want to live with forever (yet), though I have found people that I could be with for a few years.

I got married young. At 19 and I had been with the person for 4 years before and it just didn't work. I think when you're young you have some idea that life is perfect and you will be together forever. It sucked but life goes on. Do I see myself getting married again. No.

I think the system has a way of fucking people over. The marriage license was 35 bucks. The divorice over a grand. I think that if people decide to get married then they need to have a prenup. No doubt about it. When they split no one pays anyone else shit.

And who to marry... uh the person that you love.

We want to adopt (maybe) instead of having kids. I'm white, and my wife Asian, so we want to adopt a black or Hispanic kid. When people ask if he's adopted, we would say no why? I figure irony is probably the wrong reason to adopt.

A lot of people here have the misconceived idea that a prenup will save their ass in court. They are wrong for several reasons:
1) a prenup only covers assets that the person has before the marriage.
2) a prenup cannot stipulate child support or wage garnishment or alimony payments - those are all products of the marriage and as such if you are not married you cannot stipulate them.
3) any bank account you ever withdraw from - even once - to buy something for the marriage, immediately becomes joint marital property, and as such the wife is entitled to half.
4) the house is joint marital property, so she gets half.

So basically, anything you have going in is safe, unless you do something stupid like put all your money into one account, or withdraw from your account to buy shit "for the marriage" which can be anything - a candy bar, toilet paper, or paint for the house.

So there you go. Prenups will not save your ass. If you're rich or have significant assets then it's the way to go. Otherwise it's pointless. Just don't get married and you can't get divorced. "Don't get divorced" is stupid advice. You never know if your spouse will cheat on you or just become completely intolerable. The best option is to simply not marry.

I have an aunt (white) who is married to a black man. They have adopted two mixed race kids. Not so much because they are a mixed couple, but because apparently no one wants to adopt mixed kids. That's sad.

I'd adopt a mixed kid.
