Marrying a Foreigner
Well my girlfriend has a 2 year visa for study, she's from china and we have been going out for a little over a year. This October she has to go back to china. I was wondering, if I married her before she left, could she then stay in the US until she became a citizen? Or if not, could she return in 6 months with out waiting for a Visa? I do love her, and I do want to truly marry her.
We've been living together for about 9 months and she's three years older than me, and is actually the one that makes the money. (I'm studying for a criminal justice degree and she makes good money at her job) I know she wants to go back to china to finish her last year of college, and she wants to return here to then study in a US college.
Also what are some things that I can do to protect my self in case she just wants to marry me for a green card? I've read of the scams where guys meet women on the internet and send them money and shit, but usually the guy is rich and me, well I wont get a job until I NEED a job, I'm a lazy fuck when it comes to that. The only money I bring in is what I make off of eBay. It is enough for us to do whatever we want on the weekends, but not enough to maintain a car payment or any monthly bills. The only thing I could think of, was having her sign a prenup before we married, stating that if we were to divorce she could not take anything from me, and I would owe her nothing also.
Any ideas?

No shit sherlock, I've read all this shit about guys getting porked when the bitch gets to america. They got lawyers who can do all sorta of crazy shit these days. They'll whip out the Chewbacca defence.

I loled.
But really, the safer option (for you) is to wait it out, from her end it makes little difference, though you can get screwed easily. I lack experience/knowledge here, though. :\

Re: Marrying a Foreigner
Why don't you just let her go back to china and wait for her to come back. See if your relationship can survive basically the longest distance relationship possible. If she comes back and things work out then you can start to THINK about marriage.
I don't see how marrying her now would change anything. She should be able to get back to the US to study easily without being a citizen.

Re: Marrying a Foreigner
I picked up some info when I was engaged to Tsunami, who is from Australia. Can't help you with the prenup stuff though, but it doesn't exactly sound like you have a lot of assets to protect anyway.
Here's a pretty comprehensive (if wordy) FAQ on the subject.
http://immigration.lawyers.com/Fiance-Visa-FAQ.html
And a somewhat less informative website, from the federal government. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1315.html

Wait, what?
Is she stealing all the hot Totse boys now!? :p
Spunn's advice seemed to be best, hold on, dont jump right into marriage, let her go back to China to finish her studying and see if she actually comes back to you.
If she does, great. If she doesent, well you've avoided getting fucked by her greencard lusting ways, right?

Re: Marrying a Foreigner
How the hell can you love her if you don't even know for sure if the entire relationship is real or just an elaborate scam to get a green card?

Fuck it, it's not as if he's gonna lose half of his passport in a divorce.
Give the gift of citizenship!
It'd be a good story, anyway. Do it.

Re: Marrying a Foreigner
You've already been living together for the better part of a year. Just look at it like a commitment to live together for a couple years.
