English oral
I have to give an oral presentation in order to get my IB diploma for high school. I will draw a poem out of an envelope and I have to talk about it for 20 minutes. It will be recorded and later the tape will be sent off to some country to be graded. I know I'll be nervous as shit the day of the oral.
This leads to my question. Do you guys think it would be better to take some valium or xanax to ease the anxiety, or to take some adderall to make me work harder and concentrate more? Neither of these will be recreational, because I don't want to get so fucked up I can't give the presentation at all. I'm pretty sure I know everything I need to talk about, but my nerves will make me forget things, which makes me lean more towards the benzos. What do you think would be better, or what would you do in this situation?

Do it sober.
Don't chance your education and qualifications by being on some drug.

Re: English oral
a small dose of xanax or vallium maybe...
something like 1mg of xanax should calm you down considerably without you being noticeably fucked up..
or just do it sober...

Re: English oral
Just remember: nobody in the class actually gives a fuck. Everyone hates having to do shit like that, over pointless school projects. Even the teacher doesn't give a fuck, you're just another kid having to do the same boring project they've dealt with for year after year, two semesters a year, two classes a semester. Unless their new, but then you don't have to care about their opinion because they're probably stupid. In my expereince anyways.
When you realize that nobody actually cares about this stuff, and that the people who do are just foolish, it makes it a lot easier to be confident while doing it. And if you're confident, it becomes easier to get people interested in what you are saying, and get them to actually care ... and if you're confident, and capture an audience, you get a better grade! :)

Re: English oral
I've done the exact same piece of assessment.
You have no reason to be nervous, just learn your shit and do it. If you're confident, you wont be nervous.

Re: English oral
I do know my shit, and I'm confident, but I still get incredibly nervous. I know that doesn't make much sense, but thats just how I handle stressful situations. For example, we did a practice oral in Spanish and I totally bombed it. Normally, in class I know everything to carry on a conversation, and I'm definitely in the top five students in my class of fifty or so.
I think I'm just going to go with a small dose of xanax...

10mg of Valium isn't SHIT. At least 30mg is needed to achieve even therapeutic results.

Re: English oral
A friend of mine just finished a masters in arts administration.
When the stupid bitch went for her first job interview at a gallery associated with a university she took a valium because she was nervous.
she fucked it up.
She talked too slowly, no energy and couldn't answer questions.

Re: English oral
Sophomore year I took 3mg of Xanax before a major presentation. I was nervous, and I took a lot of Xanax then anyway recreationally. I talked slowly for double the time limit and got a B even though the paper it was based on got an A. The teacher told me I was boring. Another time I was still on Xanax that I had taken earlier (probably 5mg or so) when I had to improvise/bullshit a less important presentation. I spaced out part of the way through and stared into space for about 20 seconds (or at least that's how it felt) before continuing.
However, it still seems to me that like 1mg or maybe less of Xanax might be helpful. Just be careful

I made no statement about your actual religious. I merely asked if you frequently look like a holocaust survivor.

cool man. this is the gayest arguement ive ever been in, like a last word thing, starting over the dosage of valium. i have been perscribed it (anxiety) and it was pretty effective at 10 mgs, while 15 would make me a bit sleepy, a tiny buzz

I'm definitely not going to take over 2mg of xanax. I have never taken it before, and I don't have a tolerance to any other benzo. I was thinking 1mg xanax or maybe 20mg valium. I don't want my teacher to think anything is fishy by my speech or demeanor.
Last year when my friend had to do his oral he got really stoned. He walked in reeking of weed and only talked for about 5 minutes. The teacher kept asking him questions about the literature but he totally ignored her and just sat there silent for a good majority of the oral. I figure that will put her on alert for people who want to use drugs to help them during the oral this year.
Thanks for all the helpful replies, those of you who weren't arguing

Re: English oral
Oh word? English IB oral? I got that jawn coming up too. ;)
Fun Fact: Colleges do not see whether or not you received the IB diploma.
2 kids in the grade above me failed to receive theirs last year. They were already into college, so it didn't matter. All that extra work. And for what? Nothing. Much lulz for IB's uselessness.
You receive your IB diploma the summer after you graduate high school. So what does it matter if you get it or not? You've already been accepted to college.
So why even do it? Well, IB is considered "the most rigorous curriculum your school offers", and colleges want to see you pursuing that. They want to see you challenging yourself. Ultimately you become a bitch to IB for colleges. You toil for 2 years just to have that extra edge on your app, which ironically may not even help you get into your college of choice. I don't have that many extra-curricular activities, so it better fucking help me.
Wrapping up my senior year I advise you to not throw everything IB related away, but don't kill yourself over orals and the like. Make an attempt but don't stress out over it to the point where you're contemplating using drugs as a way to gain an edge. If you get >5 on the HL exams I believe you can use that as credit to skip Bio 101 or w/e at college. So maybe you want to try on those, but again, don't break your back studying unless you're an academic nazi.
Moreover, since you've never ever done any benzo I don't suggest your first time be during something like an IB oral. First time experiences like that and semi-important things like school don't seem to mix in my experience.
Relax, take your time, and answer your teacher's questions to the best of your ability. He/she is there to help you, not fuck you over. The questions aren't impossible either.
Btw, we did a "pratice" oral commentary w/ recorders. Man, talking into a tape recorder is...different. Talking to a person about literature is one thing, but when you're talking to an inanimate object, like a tape recorder, quite frankly, you just feel like a fucking idiot.

Re: English oral
Actually, colleges can ask to get results of an IB exam and reject you based on them. Also, in Florida it's an automatic 100% 4 year scholarship to any Florida school. It IS a big deal. That being said, I'm not worried about passing the exam at all. I know I'll do fine and all of my stress will be in vain. I just want to not sound like a complete idiot when I give my oral like I did with the Spanish oral.
I'm already accepted to a college regardless of my exam score with a $12,000 a year scholarship, but I'll get an extra $6,000 a year if I pass the IB exam. Also, if I get a passing grade I don't have to take most first year college courses. I took SL Psychology last year, and I was surprised at how easy it was. I got a 5 on it. It was the first year that it had been taught at our school, and all but one (retard) passed the exam.
I kind of got off on a tangent there....
