| Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Please try to keep your conversations "theoretical" in nature, since this is an open conference. |

Meth tree
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia_berlandieri
apparently, this tree has meth in its leaves.
YES, NATURALLY OCCURRING METH.
I mean, the whole plant seems toxic, but still I find this cool.
And this info seems to be about ten years old.
check dr. Shulgin too:

Re: Meth tree
Honestly, who fucking cares? Were not all going to go and try and extract this fucking tree to get a tweek. Many plants have phenethylamines and tryptamines in there alkaloids, usually in very miniscule amounts.

yes, yes.....very old.....
never the less i wish to know the concentration of nicotine....and other various potentially hazardous chemicals found in : bark or foliage....
knowing what amount will not kill me or result in toxic symptoms the bark or foliage(unlikely foliage) of this tree can become a novel source of precursors/just fun to try as a tea/ab extracted to crystal then eaten, snorted, smoked.

Re: Meth tree
Isn't this the case where the results were never duplicated, and the report authors ignored ( ) Shulgin's requests for more information?
I'm still of the opinion that the alkaloids "found" were the result of cross-contamination, if not outright forgery.

I concur, and even if it is true, the actual amount would probably be something like .01% by dry weight.

Re: Meth tree
Yeah and it also contains DMT. I mean there are tons of plants that contain tryptamines and phenylethalinines (I cant spell) but in miniscule amounts. That is cool that it contains M-amp though, as I didn't know of any plants it could be found in.

Yeah I thought M-amp was completely synthed. I had no idea it occured in other organisms. It would be pretty amazing if that was true. Do any other amps occur without human synth?
DMT is the most amazing chemical I've heard of. It appears in so many organisms, and US! I don't feel prepared for DMT yet but it's going to be an amazing experience I'm sure. There's got to be some awesome knowledge "hidden" within DMT.

Re: Meth tree
Even if it does contain these things, it is interesting at best. I don't see a way that a plant containing so many things could be reduced down to methamphetamine... I am sure it can be done somehow, but it doesn't make any sense to do so... there are so many easier routes.

Yeah man, assuming that the plant really contains the said alkaloid, the procedure to extract pure methamphetamine from the plant matter would be so complex/exspensive that you might as well have synthed it yourself by the time you are done.
